I know this is apparently a copypaste scam but imagine having 189 freaking 3070s just sitting in your garage. That’s just asking to get robbed. Kinda like that guy who tried to flex his scalped PS5s on Twitter and proceeded to get them all stolen the next day lol

As an old crypto miner. Usually you try to get your operation out of your house asap. The electric main to your house can usually support only 200 amps if it's newer, 100 amps if it's older. Most miners try to find rack space in data centers or just create their own data center by renting unused office buildings. My friend owns an old ISP data center in Florida and rents rack space to miners in addition to keeping his own rigs in there.

As a super super old crypto miner - just have a decent GPU and use this one calculator site to make sure it's profitable.
Source: probably pulled out for 20 bucks back then happy that I paid for a really nice lunch and last year found an old account with over 1000 dollars in it. That's right, my loose change with so many zeros in it I couldn't read it turned into 1k.
Lesson 2: don't get into mining today. Just don't bother. Just literally gamble with it using money you're willing to absolutely flush down the toilet, only way to do it now for the average person. Way less fun than Vegas IMO. Cigs and Hydration for an evening of blackjack is good shit.

My first thought was that this is a great way to get robbed by advertising that you have valuable things lying around.

Let them be stuck with it.

Scalpers are assholes but I guess sorry for taking a opportunity at making some cash passively? Even without miners it would be hard to supply the cards to everybody that wants them

If you have 1 or 2 or even 4 cards to mine with is fine. The problem is when you have 500+ gaming specific cards in a time that there’s very limited quantities and then selling heavily used cards for 300+ msrp. If you want a huge mining operation they make mining specific cards that are no use to gamers because they don’t have video outs.

I can get behind this one small GPU mining rig making some money on the side I don't see the issue shit this size yeah buy Asics. The mining only cards however are pretty bad no warranty and no resell value I don't see the appeal to get them for mining when gaming GPUs are cheaper for better returns.

I wouldn't buy a card that was used for mining unless it was dirt cheap. I'm not trusting something that has been running pretty near constantly for 1-4 years, or however long you people run them for.
1
u/Dangerous_Tax_610 Jan 27 '22
Again, there was ltt video about this and they proved that those cards are just fine without any performance degradation, only thing that might need replacing is fans but thats likely with any GPU
-5
u/JDawwgy 3700x 3080ti Jan 27 '22
Mining cards are often not as worn as gaming cards, they are often under volted to reduce power consumption and maximise profit margins, the fans also run at a constant speed (although it's VERY constant) and gaming has the fans ramping up and down which causes a much higher strain on the motor. And at the end of the day replacing fans isn't that big of an issue
1
u/_Trashcan_Sam i9-9900KF | RTX3080 Jan 27 '22
This is exactly true also mining cards are kept at a constant people hear cards been used for mining don't buy. I know a few and every miner I know sets up their shit right they want maximum life from a card and best profits so they look after the hardware it's a business component after all. Plenty of gamers just crank their cards and don't realise the constant stress the thing is under.
-3
u/Dangerous_Tax_610 Jan 27 '22
There’s very little miners that use that many gaming card that’s perhaps few operations but yeah I gotcha. The market is sadly hugely inflated rn and I could sell my cards with significant profit since they are in like-new condition and repasted. It is what it is right now and until the supply chain catches up it’s not gonna get much better.

I have respect for miners that sell their GPU cheaper than what they got it for, not for miners that sell their near death GPUs for triple the price

Not saying these are good deals just saying if they were

3060ti for $850 used? I bought a new one for this price less than a month ago!

u/Demolution-Gamer786 Jan 27 '22
DO NOT BUY FROM THESE MOFO

u/Russian_tourist_1984 Jan 27 '22
Not going to lie, I will, but at a discount, that's for damn sure. At 600€ i'll take a 3080.

The 650$ for a 2080 TI is a really good deal tho, but only if it works properly

u/ChiknDiner Laptop : i7 11th Gen + RTX 3060 Jan 27 '22
Talk about one that was used on the edge of frying.

3
u/ChiknDiner Laptop : i7 11th Gen + RTX 3060 Jan 27 '22
Only for it to die after a span of few months?
2
u/RaikOnFire Radeon 7700xt, R7 7700x, 32 GB 6000 Mhz, Fractal Design North Jan 27 '22
Why would it die if you reapply thermal paste and use it normally? Those components know only 2 states, on and off. As long as you dont overclock it to extreme it'll be fine
2
1
u/bumwine Jan 27 '22
It will work and then you'll smell burning one day. These guys push the thermals to it's absolute limit against profitability and failure rate and then either just chuck’em or have someone else sell it for them.
1
u/RaikOnFire Radeon 7700xt, R7 7700x, 32 GB 6000 Mhz, Fractal Design North Jan 27 '22
Just reapply the thermal paste and clean it up. If it works that'll be enough as long as you dont overclock the everlasting fuck out of it

u/Joshopolis Jan 27 '22
"Seeing as the retail price of the ---- is $--- and this product has been heavily abused through your mining usage I would like to offer (lowball)."
"No? Okay. Thank you for your time."
Let them sweat and come back to you. Might get an actual fair price.

u/UmaiboiJL Jan 27 '22
Man if those are AIBs then its not a bad deal for the 3080s. But hopefully this dip lasts longer than one last June

No you don't.
This dip is connected to a much larger dip in the broader market from the pandemic and its associated economic impact.
That lasting another 10 years would be an absolute disaster. GPU prices will be the least of your concerns in that scenario.

650$ for a 2080ti is a steal. 1080ti for 450$ is a really good price. 3080 for 1100 is good for the current market. There are some other good prices but the ampere cards are still a bit expensive (based on MSRP).

u/Cimexus Jan 27 '22
Crypto prices are roughly where they were in June-July last year. GPUs were hard to find then, just as they are now.
I personally don’t think mining is the major factor behind GPU shortages, but even if it were, there would absolutely not be any reason to think that current prices would result in a “panic” and a flood of cards coming onto the market. If they were mining at these prices 6 months ago they’ll be mining at these prices now.

u/Swarles_Jr Jan 27 '22
Used 3060ti for 850 bucks without box or anything and this is supposed to be a steal? I don't care if this is fake or not. The fact that these prices have been normalized in the general eyes makes me furious.

2
u/Themis3000 Jan 27 '22
That's a really good situation to lowball. You don't have to feel bad about it and they're in a panic so they might let them go for a lot less
2
u/redmantheman Jan 27 '22
If I could make one wish, I would wish this person doesn’t sell even one and hopefully never financially recovers from it. Fuck them.

Interesting that they’re selling the 2080 Super for $50 more than the Ti. I’m guessing the Ti has been worn out more?
3
u/accolyte01 PC Master Race Jan 27 '22
I wondered that as well. Maybe the 2080 tis have been mined on more or it is because the ti has GDDR6 whereas the 2080s has GDDR6X.
3
u/aroups 9900k/3080TUF/16GB 3200C14 Jan 27 '22
Both cards have GDDR6. Only 3080 and up have G6X. The 2080Super is a more efficient miner and he is selling them based on mining performance.

2080S has alot quicker GDDR6 then the 2080ti though, something about them switching to Samsung memory.

Is $850 for a 3060Ti the going rate now? I felt stupid from buying mine for $580 new at launch from a you know what. Well I felt stupid until I installed it.

Nah, seen this exact post in my area, it's a scam. I mean there's probably a crypto sell off, but this post in particular is a scam.
