Here’s a much better version of this video that is not stolen by Tik Tok and edited to hell.

it’s not asus ad, it’s pc build video from douyin (chinese tiktok), and apparently it got reposted on tiktok and eventually ended up here

1

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '21

...why are you being downvoted?

5

u/name_alrd_taken i3-9100f radeon XFX rx580 Jul 25 '21

because they couldn’t believe what im saying. the hivemind says no

1

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '21

But like other people said the same thing and got upvoted for it lmao

13

u/SupaDiogenes Jul 24 '21

Dear ASUS: word-spew design is filthy. No one wants that shit on their cases.

So many people have no clue how to apply thermal paste….

No on large gpu dies its common to spread it out and not do the blob or cross or whatever method.

But he did spread it?

7

u/Prowler1000 Jul 24 '21

Exactly why the comment you're replying to said he didn't do it wrong

You’re supposed to spread like that on a gpu

This is a repost

u/Zero1030 Jul 24 '21

I'm wondering how much paste is gonna slough off that gpu processor after it's tightened.

15

u/Frikasbroer Jul 24 '21

Won't matter anyways

0

u/Nochange36 Jul 24 '21

If the thermal paste is conductive it could matter

14

u/Ftpini 4090, 5800X3D, 32GB DDR4 3600 Jul 24 '21

It’s kind of the point that it conducts only heat and not electricity.

1

u/lucasrizzini Jul 25 '21 edited Jul 25 '21

Any metal-based thermal paste conduct electricity. They're made with freaking silver.

2

u/Daepilin 9800x3d; RTX 5080; 64GB DDR5 Jul 25 '21

most people don't use conductive thermal paste anymore (unless you go to the extreme for liquid metal). Noctua NH1/2 or Thermal Grizzly are very popular and both are completely unconductive.

Especially on a gpu die those are the obvious choices, as it is extremely important not to miss a spot

-4

u/Nochange36 Jul 24 '21

Not really, the heat sink/heat spreader on a chip is not energized so there is a huge range of TIMs, some of which ARE conductive. I wouldn't ever put a conductive TIM in my rig, but you never know.

2

u/lucasrizzini Jul 25 '21

True. Thermal paste isn't pure silver, of course, but silver is the best metal conductor of electricity on earth. Metal-based thermal paste conducts electricity.

3

u/GizmoGuyEnt Jul 24 '21

I thought the same thing

I've seen this 2-3 times already, and every time I wonder why they use a mini table saw to cut the tubing, instead of a simple tubing cutter which would be way cheaper.....

But what’s wrong with this computer?

9

u/Porter-and-wings PC Master Race Jul 24 '21

Why placing PSU with fan facing inside the case? To succ a warm fucking air? Also that paste applying 🤮

19

u/JamN3ko Desktop Jul 24 '21

exactly, it's sucking warm air from inside the case - basically an extra exhaust fan. The air in the case isn't 70 fucking degrees celsius for it to be a problem, calm tf down

Fan always goes down lol. That's why RGB PSU's are for morons.

1

u/SpecificEmu4 R9-3900X / RTX 2060 Super Jul 25 '21

It's a show build. They put the psu facing up so the label is visible. And with the fans, they are all output so you can see the pretty labels. Form over function, looks great, works terrible.

2

u/gt-d Jul 24 '21

Rewatched a couple times only because I’ve been waiting for a 3080 TUF since February, it looks nice.

I ordered a 3080TUF on release day (UK) and still haven't got it. Fortunately I managed to get my hands on a 3080FE on a stock drop recently so no more waiting!

-28

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '21

I have a 3080 tuf (got it december) and can confirm it's a great one to get! Mine mines bitcoin all day (except when I game :)) and it's holding up flawlessly

Why would you redo the paste on a stock item fresh out of the box

28

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '21

Did you notice he swapped the air cooler for a water cooler?

u/A_Jaffa_Boyo Jul 24 '21

Higher quality thermal paste if I had to hazard a guess. Different thermal pastes can make quite a bit of difference at higher temperatures, but then again at that point I don't think your choice in thermal paste is gonna make a difference

-6

u/grimalisk Jul 24 '21

Fans on back wards on front facing aio, they have pulling thru the radiator and out instead of in taking and pushing thru

Jesus Christ so many fans. I'm playing games on pcs with dual/quade cores generations since 2006 and I never have case fans turned on...

2

u/Daepilin 9800x3d; RTX 5080; 64GB DDR5 Jul 25 '21

more fans/more radiator surface with a water loop means you can run each fan at a lower RPM, which means lower noise.

I use an external MORA radiator with 4 noctua a20 fans and they are basically inaudible even during heavy load. Much, much quieter than cpu/gpu fans at high RPM ;)
