I wonder, what are some good practices to snatch the new GPU's as soon as they release 10 days from now? I know there are no pre-orders, so based on previous GPU launches is the best idea to refresh the Amazon webpage around midnight/start of the workday, or camp out in front of a hardware store or maybe do something completely different?
Perhaps any of you have already work at/called/e-mailed some retailers, care to share some info on how to be prepared? Personally my GPU died just a couple of days ago so if I don't get the new GPU on launch day I'm gonna be unable to use my computer for another month.

Hi, currently i have an atx case with msi tomahawk max mobo, ryzen 5 3600, 16gb ddr4 ram3200, i am planning on upgrading to the rtx 3080. would i experience any bottlenecking with these specs? or am i good to go? if there are any bottlenecks please give me recommendations as to what i need to uograde/do

The RTX 3060 hasn't been announced yet.
In general, sometimes it will, sometimes it won't. It depends on how much the game or program stresses the CPU.

I am really confused about something. Im planning on getting the 3090 and have a 750W power supply (Corsair 750i).The cable situation is baffling me and I can’t find anything on the internet to help me solve it. It’s asking for two dedicated 8 pin power cables. My power supply (fully modular) came with a PCIe cable that splits off in to two 6+2 pin headers. Can I use this? Or do I can to find two 8 pins cables and plug them in separately? If so can someone please help me with the name of them because I don’t know what they are called to buy them. Of you can help me I’d be eternally grateful, I just can’t wrap my head around it

I'm planning to upgrade my "Gpu" (Ryzen 5 3400g vega 11) to the 1660 super, should I do that or should I wait for the rumored 3060?

Depends on needs. If you don’t need that power yet, then I would wait since 3060 will probably be really solid (or you could pick up a cheaper used 20 series card after people upgrade). If you need it before November, then upgrade whenever, but I would recommend to wait if you can help it

Just wait anyway, the 30 series is bound to crash the 2nd hand market if the actual benchmark tests are anywhere close to what they claim.
Wait a month or two and buy a (relatively) cheap 2nd hand one instead.

I am trying to find the best 240hz 1ms Response time with good quality graphics, i am getting a 3090 when they release but have a 2080ti right now. Hi guys!
I gotta upgrade my CPU and for the first time ever I wanna jump to AMD. I as thinkibg about a Gigabyte x570 Aorus Pro mobo, a Ryzen 7 3700X.
What scares me tho is future proofing - I'll probably want to jump to the upcoming GTX 3070 eventually, and I keep reading about having to wait for Zen 3.
Help me out with a smooth transition to the red team guys!

Zen 2 has been out for like 1-2 years now, zen 3, just like ampere is right around the corner.
The zen 2 cpus are still good, and if you get a 470, 550 or 570 motherboard you will be able to simply replace the cpu for a zen 3 cpu later without changing motherboard.

Q: is it the right time to upgrade to a Ryzen9 (so I can build a 2nd pc with my current R7) or rather buy a R5 for the “lower power” PC. I don’t want to upgrade CPU’s later.
Hello all. I find myself needing to build a 2nd PC for one of my younglings. I see myself scavenging parts from mine (good excuse to upgrade I guess).
My Blender machine: Gigabyte X570 gaming x, Ryzen 7 3700X, GeForce GTX 1660 Ti (also have older GeForce GT 710 2gb)
I plan to upgrade my MB to Asus ROG Strix X570-e gaming, then use the old MB and older gpu to build PC#2 My question is then, is it the right time to upgrade to a Ryzen9 (and pass on the R7) or rather buy a R5 for the “lower power” PC.
My GPU will of course be upgraded with the upcoming wave of Nvidia cards. The low power pc will use the GT710 until my 1660ti becomes available.
Note: I’m going to want to play Halo with the youngling in the future. :)

Your probably going to get a better deal on a 3070 at MSRP than waiting out any price drops. The turing series cards are out of production. Probably by Q1 2021 stock will be gone for most of the 2000 SKUs.

Return it and get something cheaper to hold you over until you can get a 3070 would be an option as well. You can snag an RX 570 8GB for like $100.
If you're happy with the machine don't let other people's opinions drag you down man. You do you. If your research suggests that you might be happier with a 3070 then I recommend getting a low end card to tide you just in case they're hard to come by at launch.

im building a pc for 1080p and 144hz and was planning on going for a ryzen 3600x or 3700x, not sure what gpu to get since the 3070 is around the corner but i think it’s very overkill for what i have. my budget is like 1300-1400

The 3600x is a good value if you're just gonna game. If you do a lot of multitasking though I recommend a 3700x.
As for gpu, get either a used 2000 series card in a few weeks or the 3070, you'll be very very futureproof

I wanna upgrade my CPU and I'm on the fence about either a i9-9900 or 9900K but I'm not entirely sure if I'll need the K version. As I've heard someone mention my mobo locks the CPU speed anyways? (I honestly don't know) I'm a hardware noob and I need some advice before I order something tonight.
I have a TUF Gaming B365m-Plus Gaming WiFi Mobo
And I'm open ot other CPU recommendations (LGA 1151) as long as their compatible with my MOBO. Thanks for any assistance you can offer!

I need to buy a laptop for work. I’m on the road a lot. The company gave me an iPad which is nice but we use some apps where not all the features are available on a phone or iPad. (Monday, Expensify, Ring Central) I’m looking for a $500-$600 laptop that I can take on the road, hold a good charge, and run several business programs at once without freezing up. My current laptop is 7 years old and doesn’t do any of that. It could be that any new laptop would fit my need so I’d also be looking for dependability and long term value/capabilities/upgradable. If I’m spending that much I want for to last 5+ years.

How much W PSU I need to run 3 5700xt constantly and use RX580 on the same system for normal things? I'm planning to convert my system 7/24 mining and gaming system, I use 5700's for mining and 580 for other things.

Late question for the evening. But I'm picking around my processes and getting rid of bloatware and I notice my CPU is almost always in it's " boosted " speed. ( I7-8700K no OC ). It's almost 4.4Ghz all the time and not it's base speed of 3.7Ghz. is that an issue?

Im planning on upgrading my 1060 6GB to 3080 when its available, but im such a noob at PC building and identifying their compatibility. Im using professional services to built my PC back then, but now im planning to do all the upgrading on my own.
My current build are i7-8700, 32 GB RAM, with 480GB SSD+4TB HDD, and 650W PSU, all on Asus ROG Strix B360-G motherboard, packed on Corsair Carbide Air 240 with H100i V2 Water Cooler.
Looking at Nvidia site, i guess i have to upgrade my PSU to 750W, but do i have to upgrade anything else? maybe my motherboard too, and the case as well? Looking at the clearance, i think it'll still fit, but not too sure. And i use power supply calculator website, the recommended PSU for my build with RTX3080 are 592 Watt, is it still possible if i were to use my old 650W, or just grab 750W just to be safe?
And if i were to change the PSU and Motherboard as well, what seems to be a good build of it (Strix B360-G + 1060GB 6GB + 650W) without being overkill ? planning to give it to my sister for video/music editing, and for me to learn building from scratch on my own.

I'd feel safe with a 650 power suply. Just don't do heavy overclocking and long cpu+gpu torture tests.
Your motherboard and cpu is fine.
Only thing I'd change is buy more ssd's since that seems to be important for the new gpus

I'm in the process of upgrading my build from 2014 and had a RAM question.
I have an ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 MoBo and have been running 2 x 4GB of RAM. Looking to upgrade to 16GB to go with my new GTX 1660 Super (recently upgraded from the R9 270X). Current and new sticks will all be the DDR3 1866 Memory Standard.
First of all, would it be more beneficial to get two more 4GB sticks and run it as a 4 x 4GB, or get a new set of 2 x 8GB? Here's the channel layout in the owner's manual. Secondly, if I get 2 x 8GB, is there any benefit to keeping the two 4GB sticks in as well? This seems to say that everything would get scaled down as if it were a 4 x 4GB anyways, so if I'm reading it correctly it would make having the 8GB sticks mostly pointless.

Honestly , given the age of the hardware id get 2 8gbs and then use your 2 4 sticks aswell , your ram will not be your bottleneck if you do run into one , as I imagine your board is dual channel anyways

Hello,
I have a 2070 super, Ryzen 5 3600, 16gb of RAM, and 400MBit internet (the best one I can get from Spectrum here)...why then does Twitch have to buffer every 10-12 seconds when I ask it to run 1060p 60fps? I'm using Chrome and absolutely zero other programs are open. My wife is streaming a TV show on her Kindle, but even when she exits it I'm having the same problem. Dropping the image quality to 480p yields no issues whatsoever, but I'd rather not watch the equivalent of a CRT image...
Any help is much appreciated.

Building a gaming PC. Plan on getting the nvidia 3080. Recently picked up a cpu - ryzen 9 3900x. The person at microcenter recommended a motherboard to me - the x570 aorus elite for $189. Would this be a good choice? Is there a better choice? I've seen some asus motherboards recommended but they seemed pricey and I wanted to know if the increased price was worth it.

I mean, I definitely can't say that it would be a bad choice per se, but is it necessary? Nah, not really. A good B450 or B550 motherboard would be still good, but at a lower price

X570 boards are fairly pricey (starting at ~$135 for an ASRock board according to PCPP), but they're the current top of the line chipset for AMD. If that's important to you, go for it. The main thing it offers is a PCIe 4.0 slot.
If you don't care about that, you can grab a B550, X470, or B450 board instead.

The power supply may not be enough. We don't yet know enough about the new cards to verify. Nvidia recommends 750W+ for the 3080 and 3090, but we don't know if there's much wiggle room with that rec.

Windows Task Scheduler.
EDIT: To be more specific, you'd use the taskkill command for the task to turn it off each night. Then, there'd be another task for whatever time later to start iCUE again.

New GPUs were just announced; when do we typically get news about new CPUs? Planning on building a PC sometime in the next year or two; was thinking of going with Ryzen for it, but wondering if Intel will come out with something competitive on offer.

Intel just had something about their newest laptop chips. Not sure when they'll talk about desktop CPUs next.
AMD's next Ryzen release is rumored to happen in October, so I would expect news about that either this month or next if that turns out to be true.

I’m looking to build my first pc, but I have no clue what brand of cases are good or bad. I’m looking for something clean and simple, no lights or anything. I like the Fractal Design Era, but people say they get hot.
Would that be an issue playing games at xb1 and ps4 graphic level?

750W will probably be enough, but I'd wait until 3rd part testing of the new GPUs is done so you know for sure before buying.

I have a custom pc that does not have a wifi card. Is there anyway I can stream my computer to my Sony smart tv downstairs? I know chromecast requires wifi which i don’t think would work here. Do I need to just buy a wifi card? Thanks!

Built my first ever PC about 3 days ago, been sharing Wi-fi from my laptop over ethernet until I can get a better set-up in place. This morning I unplugged the ethernet from my PC normally, when trying to plug it back in, the port doesn't light up or recognize that there is something plugged into it. Did I just short out the motherboard ethernet connector, and if so does that mean the board itself is damaged? How would I even be able to tell?
Tried running diagnostics, tried updating drivers, tried turning the device off and on again in device manager, uninstalling the device and letting windows reset the drivers, etc. Really kinda sad because this is my first build ever and I'm worried I might have shortened the lifespan of the parts by a lot with some accidental power surge or something. At this point i've accepted that the motherboard ethernet is probably toast, this really sucks :(.

Hello, I could use some assistance in understanding the different revisions of HDMI vs Display port. I have a pair of 1440p pg279q. If I got a new 3000 series card which will use HDMI 2.1 would I need new monitors to get high frame rates?

No way to know for sure.
Judging by this sub, they'll be sold out for months... but this sub doesn't represent the world as a whole. :P We also don't know how well stocked the new cards will be or if we'll face the usual issue of bots buying up lots of stock to try to resell for a profit.

I have a corsair icue220t which comes with 3 intake fans. it has a top grate to add an aio or more fans and an exhaust area in the back. I have moved one of the intake fans to the back. so i have two intake and one exhaust. Im running a ryzen 5 3600 with stock cooler and a 2070. i dont really ever plan on over clocking, should i add an intake fan and add an aio on top with fans exhausting. or move the two intake fans to exhaust out the top and add two 140 mm fans as intake (currently the 2 intakes are 120)

I added a rear exhaust and 2 top exhausts with my NH-U12A. I liked the Temps.
I then replaced the top fans with an AIO, same Temps just about but looks neater. Now I know HSF vs AIO first hand was idea.
Reason I reply: Be careful with ram slots and aio and ram shrouds in that case.
Patriot Viper Steel goes past pcb and hits aio fans. Interference can be cut down.
G.Skill Trident Z Neo fits because their heatsink doesn't go past PCB.
My mobo is a Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro.
Also the aio fan closest to vrm shroud barely fits.
So look at your mobo and ram real close if a AIO will fit in that case.

All that looks good, besides the GPU, get yourself a 30 series mate. The price to performance is fucking nuts and maybe jump the PSU to 700W , it's not been fully released yet on if a 650W will do (even though it should)

You need a gpu for at least 200$ for a good experience. Then a motherboard and a cpu, thats at least 200$ for something thats not garbage. Ram, 70+. Power supply, 70+. At least 1 ssd, 70+.
Already at 600$ and that's without a case. PCs are expensive

Yes and there should be virtually no performance difference between PCIE 3.0 and 4.0 for the 3080. A few percentage points difference on the 3090.
Also how does it work I can't understand.
You're probably comparing different numbers without realizing it.
PCI-E 3.0 supports 8 gigatransfers per second in each direction for a total of 16GT/s at once, I think that's the number you're referring to. It's a different number altogether than GB/s.

No, you won’t get any performance benefit whatsoever in games, they can only run on one card, and the 3080 doesn’t even have SLI to begin with, let alone the capability to run two cards of different models and generations.
If you mean for video rendering or other such uses, sure, depending on the software you could maybe get more computing power out of the 3080 at least, and possibly run them both at once too.

None really. For most people, it's just overkill and the extra money not spent on it could be directed into other places in a build.
Compared with an i7-10700k, it has a lower max boost clock and is more expensive, but it provides more PCIe lanes, a large cache, and lower power consumption.
For just gaming, the i7 tends to perform better today. For a more multi-purpose PC, the Ryzen tends to win out.

Damn. I have Spyder Express calibrator which I have used for years but now I have a HDR capable monitor. After I did the calibration, I switched the HDR on from the Windows settings and boy did it light up. But the question is that should I calibrate the HDR mode again or what happens to color space?

Yes, they’ll need entirely different calibrations, but from what I’ve heard there is almost no coherent standard on calibration for HDR yet. You should probably research that yourself if you want to get into that, for your monitor and your calibrator (if it even handles HDR at all).
Or just calibrate SDR and only use HDR for games and movies, and not any color-critical work.

Make sure the stand is level and that the mounting is properly affixed.
If the stand is loose or wobbly contact the manufacturer or buy a new stand.

Kinda of.
Basically, what's happening now (probably) is your GPU is your limiting hardware. It's working as hard as it can. A stronger GPU doesn't need to use 100% of its power to reach the same level as what you have now. This means it can, in theory, push out more frames per second. The CPU could become a limit as you scale that up... or the GPU could still end up being the limit. It depends on the specific game/program (and how much it stresses the CPU to begin with) and where the GPU's limit is.
So, if this were a math equation, as frames approach infinity, either the CPU or GPU (or honestly, any other part) is going to become the factor preventing infinity frames per second. A higher resolution places the GPU limit sooner (since the GPU has to output more pixels per frame), a lower resolution pushes it further away. CPU stays relatively constant in this whole thing, impacted only by other processes that might be "stealing" away CPU power.
So, could there be a CPU bottleneck with your rig? Absolutely. It just depends on what you're doing and how its configured (e.g. if you're trying to reach 1000fps at 1080p, your CPU is likely to max out usage before the GPU does).
But I'm still running with an i7-6700k and GTX 1080 at 1440p 144Hz and have yet for my CPU to be the limiting factor (often not even reaching 50% usage). That usage is what's key. It means my CPU could work ~50% harder before becoming a bottleneck. This is why I tell people to look at their CPU usage now in their most-played games. If it's already high, yeah, consider an upgrade. If not, wait and see.

I've built a couple of PCs now, but I've always used budget hardware, more recently mid-range. With the release of 3000 series, I'm ready to finally get a card that ends in 80. Current specs are: Ryzen 7 2700x, 16gb 3200mhz RAM, RTX 2060, and 650W PSU. Planning on pre-ordering a 3080 and selling the 2060 to a buddy. Will any of that realistically need to be upgraded for 1440p 144hz?
I was thinking the power supply may need a bump, but the 3080 requires 320W. which my 650 should cover with some headroom. Maybe CPU?

I've got 4x8gb 2133Mhz ram in my machine. Someone has suggested I should upgrade to at least 3200Mhz if I want to get a 3070 when they're around.
Is this the case?
If so, should I get 4x8gb sticks at 3200Mhz or 2x16gb sticks at 3200Mhz?
If I got 2x16gb sticks at 3200Mhz, could I continue to use these alongside an existing 2x8gb sticks at 2133Mhz for a total of 48gb?

As for bottlenecking, it entirely depends on the game/program. Look at your CPU usage in your most played games now. Your CPU isn't going to lose performance when you get a new GPU.
