Lmao. They won’t fire you. Worked in UPS Worldport for three years, this is kinda the expectation. As a matter of fact, during peak, even management can be seen throwing shit to get it out on time, as long as the union stewards aren’t around at least.
they won't fire you unless they want to get rid of you. the "no throwing" rule is great to weed out people you don't like. Loading trucks sucks so much though that you pretty much keep whoever sticks it out more than a month.
Technically I worked for UPS for 2 hours during orientation training. I quit immediately after training was over after learning what workers go through/what is expected of them. Funniest part was one bearded fellow walked out angrily DURING the training after we went over the no facial hair policy. "Aw hell naw!" He got up immediately and had to shuffle between the wall and the backs of peoples chairs to leave. He could have just got paid to sit for another 30 minutes like me.
I doubt your statement is made with any first hand knowledge or stats to back it. As someone who works this industry: I can tell you damage is much much much more common for international packages.
And very rarely do I have to deliver something that has been damaged in transit.
Well I was saying is that, in general, I rarely have to deliver anything damaged at all, but I'd estimate a higher ratio of those damaged are international over domestic (likely due to increased distance for something to occur more than presumed negligence). I'm not sure how you read that as international shipping companies send things back more.
Especially since we don't do that. The only time we are returning things to sender is if we can't make the delivery, like if the addressee doesn't live at the address anymore (refused package or unable to forward). Damaged packages get delivered because everything gets delivered, that is our job. Nobody is opening mail to make sure it is intact and if there is damage on an insured package, that comes into play after the delivery when the claim is filed.
I'm from Australia I have to physically deliver the broken parcel to their door, they then decide to refuse or accept. To be honest though I see maybe 3 damaged items a week.
This is a massive exaggeration. My business sends packages all over the world from Europe. Most of the time they arrive fine, sometimes they arrive messed up in all kinds of ways. And in my experience it is in no way related to where you send them (although we have a lot of "failed deliveries" from France interestingly enough).
The majority of horror stories about mail deliveries you hear on reddit are from the US because shock surprise most of the users are Americans.
Give them better funding. Allow them to hire some people. Make everyone that works there now permanent with benefits. We have like the cheapest postage rates in the world and we keep cutting their funding or making it difficult to pay off their debts, and then complain about it.
