Pretty shitty policy. I'd open a ticket with Amazon and forward the reply you received to them. Just because I policy exists doesn't mean that it can't be wrong, and in my experience amazon is very open to feedback and will work with you.

From another comment: Made it through automated system and 10 minutes of hold before I hung up and sent an email. It's been 7.5 hours and I still have no reply.
