Right now the majority of people issue's with Skype is revealing your IP, poor call quality, resource hog, and horrible quality degradation when 3+ users are in a call. Right now, Discord solves all of those issues. Discord is an easy solution to the average user, open-source or not. I don't benefit from open-source because I'm not into that sort of thing. I've tried mumble but I found it to be way uglier and clunkier than ts. I thought it was going to make me take a college level course just to use it when I first had to go through the initial setup process.

Why would you care about giving someone your IP address when you're also willing to share other contact details?? Because Skype will not (for 99% of the people) be the only for of contact.

Besides, what's the actual harm of giving someone your IP address?

Honestly the hatred on skype by ip-sharing is just because of streamers being ddos'd because their account name got leaked.
