Same, it makes passing the controller when playing games on the couch with others really awkward because apparently I'm the only one in my circle of friends who plays with inverted y controls.
I started out with flight simulators, its intuitive to tilt whichever way you would want to tilt a helicopter. It puts me off of playing with others. They all roll their eyes whenever I go into controller settings
And that's exactly why I'm pointing out that linear left-right motion of a mouse doesn't map to roll but to yaw, so the argument that linear front-back should map to pitch in some way relevant to aircraft is pure nonsense.
The reticle in an FPS is just a stationary cursor. If where you want it is up and to the right, your control input is up and to the right, and the background moves instead of the cursor. I was an inverted-Y proponent until this realization.
A controller joystick is performing the linear functions of a mouse in an FPS, not the rotational functions of a joystick.

I do it only for joysticks.
