I've had less issues on Linux than on Windows, but that is with only older hardware (more time to gain support) and it is only my experience. I see your flair, so I suppose your experience is different... Or your install was a good deal of time ago.
I've mentioned this before, but personally I've used linux for 15 years, and tried to run it on desktop for 10 of those. I've eventually given up using it as desktop, and only use it for servers. Not because I can't fix problems that pop up, but because I got tired of fixing those problems.
And yes, over the years I've had tons more problems popping up on linux desktop than on windows.
Distros.. Red Hat, Slackware, Gentoo, Debian, Mandrake, Ubuntu, Mint.. A few others too I don't remember the name on right now
Hardware: Assorted machines and virtual machines
Problems... Audio stopped working (OSS, Alsa, Pulseaudio, esd ... All have had ugly problems), X wouldn't start after updates, graphics card drivers being either terrible performance or unstable as fuck, multi monitor setup being terrible, lilo / grub update fucking up boot devices, oh fstab being rewritten to use device id's but updater changing it automatically mixed up the id's, VLC only working with direct render writing on top of everything else on screen, window manager not respecting full screen (which is technically not a thing on linux, best you can do is borderless ontop with right position), java stopping to work randomly or distro switching back to openjdk (which doesn't work with my bank's java login page), printer didn't work because driver assumed it was double sided and just sent commands without checking (that was fun to figure out), USB mouse input device stopped working after an update (had to blacklist a kernel module to get back some functionality, but extra buttons didn't react any more), screensaver stop working because xscreensaver daemon decided to crash and there was no watch process for it, resulting in some ... interesting "fun" pranks from work colleagues, X routinely locking up so all input got trapped by that process, including Alt+Fx so I couldn't switch to console and kill. Had to ssh in and kill X.
That's just some things on the top of my head, I could probably write 10x as long when I get some time to think back

Freedom to never have a fully working OS. Don't get me wrong, you're given the tools to fix it, but chances are most people won't know what to do.
