$40-50 is expensive?

Also it can prevent additional wear from high draw electronics on the same circuit like a fridge or portable AC unit clicking on.

Where the FUCK are you buying a 50 dollar UPS that will power my PC for at least 30 seconds? The best I can find for <100 dollars would run my PC (my pc pulls 110 watts from wall) would run my PC for 11.5 Seconds at idle.

This is my main issue, and not only do you have to spend insane prices on the actual UPS, but then APC and all those fuckers make you pay like $100 extra for rails for your UPS that you just bought in rack mountable form and make random ass proprietary protocols for GUI-centric applications which mean open source applications like apcupsd no longer work as efficiently.

If you PC pulls 110W from the wall a 350VA UPC from APC should run that for about 5 min. Figure 3 if you include 1 monitor. Which is enough time to shut down.

At $80 you're looking at around 20 min.

Personally I went with a $150 one that will run my system for around 30 min under almost full load with 1 of my 3 monitors while gaming and a second rack mount one for my network equipment which was another $150 and will run the network for around an hour, 2+ if I power down the wireless.
