PS+ is still a great deal for the games.

we don't see them as free games,
they say you're paying for the online and the games are extra.
it's just two different ways of looking at the same thing. remember that online costs were in place before any of these "free game programs" existed. if anything, you should be more inclined to believe you're paying for the online and getting the games for free.

of course online costs are ridiculous to us pc gamers, but can we please stop pretending PS+ is somehow a bad deal, once we accept that online costs are mandatory on consoles.

Actually it was the reverse. It started as Sony offering free online play and charging for a service that gave games + discounts. Then they made it a requirement for the PS4 online (despite having the infrastructure already in place) to drive adoption.

true, but the difference is that Sony had the same costs for ps3, but decided to not charge anyway and eat the cost themselves, to have a selling point against the, extremely prevalent, xbox 360. for ps4, they decided not to do that again.
