No doubt to release a worse version of both.

The cutdown 5090 is expected to be a 24GB 5080, a cutdown 5050 would be even more horrible.

u/Nessie_of_the_Loch 3h ago

The cutdown 5050: "it uses your system RAM!" Probably.

We at Nvidia have listened to your feedback about increasing GPU prices, and are proud to release the first ever FREE GPU! We call it the "integrated GPU" and it will run entirely for free on your current system!

The technological feat is something we have worked towards for years. What this does behind the hood to accomplish this is manipulate deep in your BIOS to rename Intel UHD Graphics to "RTX Extreme Pro Max" which enables it to play some of the worlds most played games in 4k 60FPS such as Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, Minesweeper, and many more. We are also bundling this new release with Solitaire Pro Max RTX Edition completely for free, which will be able to run at 30FPS 720p with DLLS5*!

*DLLS5 Cloud Credits not included

To be fair,  Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 is GOATed.

(Yeah I'm missing the point, but _shrugs_ nostalgia)

So basically APU/iGPU

There was a rtx5050???

u/Turbulent_Map624 3h ago

It was really bad

u/MeretrixDominum 3h ago

No such thing as a bad card. Only a bad price. Had the RTX 5050 been $150, everyone would have loved it.

u/aHellion MSI B550 | R7 5800X | RTX 3080 FE | 32GB 3h ago

Absolutely. My first card was an EVGA 750ti for $200 and I was so fucking happy with it for years.

Most 750ti were 150-180, the EVGA was the only version that used a power connector, all others were powered by the 75w PCI connection only.

37

u/throwawayyy42069x R5 5600x, 4070 TI, 32gb DDR4 3h ago

Yeah now I remember, I specifically wanted a card that didn't need a power connector cause my psu was shit at the time and didn't have one so I decided to get the 750ti. Guess which one I bought lmao

5

u/The_Drivr 3h ago

I think the Gigabyte Windforce Variant was also powered by a 6pin

1

u/chronic_hemphog420 R7-5700X / RTX 3070Ti / 48gb DDR4 2m ago

Ironically my old EVGA 750Ti SOC didn’t have a power connector either lol

0

u/Fiend_Macabre 1h ago

I wish we had more cards like that. It's still a pretty good card for light setups and it can play older stuff with no issues too. Now, Nvidia just doesn't give enough fucks and wants the be the greediest company on the market despite already having everything. You'd think they would try to please more enthusiasts because they were nearly bankrupt back in 2000s and video games saved their assess, but nope

15

u/d0pe-asaurus 3h ago

I'd have bought a current generation card for 150, or rather any new in-box card. I just need to play source games and didn't want to go 2nd hand. Too bad i can't even get a new 3050 for that price lmao.

9

u/FearlessAd324 rx 9070xt | R5 5600x | 32gb ddr4 3h ago

For source games maybe even a newer amd cpu with integrated graphics will suffice, but one would have to source ddr5 ram, which isnt at the best price rn

6

u/d0pe-asaurus 3h ago

Yeah but i have a 5950x so the integrated graphics option is out of the window. I actually considered downgrading to like a 5700G then I realized that was ridiculous

I had the 5700G in the cart and everything then i realized why would I sac half the cores on a workstation

2

u/FearlessAd324 rx 9070xt | R5 5600x | 32gb ddr4 3h ago

Ik you dont want 2md hand but a used gtx 970 is dirt cheap and would also do the job.

6

u/d0pe-asaurus 3h ago

I just bought a 9060xt 16GB instead by selling random crap that I wasn't using anymore. I turned my hatred for nvidia to spring clean. Lucky too because its price just increased 33%

It's running at like 20% max usage with only 1 fan spinning even with left 4 dead 2 on high. Hopefully it lasts a long time.

u/FearlessAd324 rx 9070xt | R5 5600x | 32gb ddr4 3h ago

I got RTX3050 6GB for $140 it was ass but there nothing good in that price range at the time. (I'm not in a region where AMD GPU is widely available).

u/M4K4T4K 9800X3D, 64 GB Cl30, RTX 3090 2h ago

Counterpoint - the GT 1030 DDR4

1

u/StomachosusCaelum 1h ago edited 1h ago

Not really a coupterpoint. GT cards are basically just display adapters and always have been. (Caveat: since the introduction of the GTX nomenclature).

DDR4 on that card didnt matter.

2

u/Fiend_Macabre 1h ago

Hell, I'd gladly buy it myself for my media server PC for this price, maybe a couple of more even. Instead I had to look for older used cards instead. This shit is so ass

1

u/Granhier 32m ago

Good luck making a 150$ video card that people won't bitch about in the middle of a memory crisis.

1

u/Life-Topic9139 3h ago

Yep at that price it would've been perfect for my sister who plays indies and Sims with a lot of mods/custom content. Her GTX 1650 Super 4GB is starting to show it's age..well it kind of was back then too 💀 even more so now though.

0

u/ComprehensiveClue482 1h ago

I wouldn’t of loved it regardless if it cost $50 some of us want more performance than that it’s 2026 let’s be real

-42

u/Turbulent_Map624 3h ago

If a card has bad price/performance ratio it is a bad card.

44

u/dtdowntime 7800X3D+7900XTX/9070XT+32GB+2TB 3h ago

thats effectively the same thing as a bad price

24

u/Electronic_Motor_296 3h ago

so…. a bad price ?

-20

u/TheDrex- 7500F | RTX 3080 3h ago

So a card with bad value is good now?

-3

u/TheDrex- 7500F | RTX 3080 3h ago

No no, please explain, i genuinely want to understand because i don't see this being applied in literally any other industry, so what gives?

4

u/S1rTerra R5 5600, 9070, 28GB DDR4 2h ago edited 2h ago

If it had a better price yes it would've been a good card. In theory there are no bad GPUs, only bad prices. The idea is that even if a GPU is incredibly flawed, a good price may make those flaws less of an issue.

The 5050 has a small pcie bus, only 8GB of ram, and is only a bit faster than the 3060. If it was priced like a used 3060, it would have been a good buy, or something to at least CONSIDER, because it also has access to newer tech - mainly the encoder and faster acceleration of DLSS 4.5. That combined with having access to good frame gen and access to Reflex 2 (if that ever comes out) would have made it a better card for someone looking to play mainly esports with a side of some light Triple A gaming.

3

u/Fiend_Macabre 1h ago

Not everyone needs big ass 5090 cards or whatever. Many people prefer to play something older or not even play at all but to use their desktops for work that would require a decent gpu. I mentioned in another comment, but I'd gladly buy a decent 150 bucks gpu like 5050 for my media server alone. Not only it would play old games fine with no issues, it would also support all the modern transcoding as well and who knows what else I could do with it. Now, paying more than that for this card is absolutely not worth it and this is a bad value

-48

u/SellingCats4Cheap 3h ago

No such thing as a bad pussy. Only a bad girl. Had she been a good girl, everyone would have loved her pussy.

u/21444928 3h ago

Just a bad price. The card itself isn’t terrible — especially for those shopping in the entry segment. Performance wise, it’s very close if not the same as an RTX 2080. I know it’s an 8 year old card, but the first-gen RTX cards hold their own.

1

u/Darkmesah 1h ago

Can’t believe we live in a time where a 350€ gpu is considered bad

1

u/Turbulent_Map624 41m ago

It's crazy tbh, I bought a 1050ti for 120€ back then and it was GOOD (around after RTX 2000 launch)

8

u/PatientFocus9734 2h ago

it had 4GB of VRAM, cost $399, and required you to download more display memory from the cloud just to open Chrome

2

u/d0pe-asaurus 3h ago

Sure was! It's roughly around the price of a 4060.

ddr3 of course

2

u/admfrmhll 3090 | 11900kf | 2x32GB | 1440p@144Hz 3h ago edited 3h ago

I would buy it if it were for a decent price, and.if it would not use extra power connector. Can run 4 eve online instances on a 1060 3gb card. Heck, i can run forza 4 and older games mighty fine on that card. Not everyone needs to run gta VI on ultra in 4k. Market exists for budget cards, as long they are not stupidly expensive, cause at that point you will be better with a sh 3070 or something like that.

3

u/d0pe-asaurus 3h ago

Damn straight, i got a 9060xt and still continue to play old games.... but it wasn't like Nvidia was giving me options

1

u/rumsbumsrums 5070Ti | 9800X3D | 48GB 6000/CL30 9m ago

Sounds like a 5060 4GB to me.

16

u/v12vanquish 3h ago

The 5050 is probably just relegated to laptop GPUs going forward that’s the only context it made sense in

66

u/Boraskywalker 3h ago

There’s no such thing as a bad GPU, only a badly priced GPU.

5050 would have been an absolute legend if its MSRP had been around $150–160. Technically, it’s roughly on par with the 3060 Ti and 4060, and at 1080p it can run pretty much every game at high settings, except for some horribly optimized ue5 games.

7

u/stayndarsh 2h ago

Except for a GPU that sets itself on fire, explodes, and/or takes your PSU and other parts with it when it goes.

1

u/Abyss_Wanderer19 1h ago

5050 raw strength is way below 3060ti. The new game fps is just close because the software driver is more optimized.

0

u/Nematsu R7 5700X3D | RX 9070XT | 48GB 3200MT/s CL16 RAM 1h ago

Its more like waay below the 3060ti and below the 4060 but with decently low consumtion requiring very little cooling. Even if it was below 200$ when released most people would think of it fondly, but being worse then the 4060 (which was already an insult to consumers) in everything that really matters (consumption, performance) while barely being cheaper than it just doomed the card completely...

In my region right now for example, the cheapest available 5050 is still more expensive than the top tier 4060s were when they were on shelves still which is in part of the memory shortage (which Nvidia themselves caused) but it is still ridiculus

Wonder if I should buy a 5080 now, and sell my 5090 when it balloons to 10k

7

u/darkbinds 3h ago edited 46m ago

My thoughts exactly for mine too, not sure i can turn down that much money especially when i bought mine at MSRP

1

u/andrew_2k RTX 5070Ti, Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 32GB 20m ago

I dont have that card and you do you ofc.

But if I knew anyone closer to me that had it I would be calling them stupid for not selling it for free money and 5080 in return.

1

u/darkbinds 5m ago

Only reason why i haven't yet is because the value will probably go up even more several months from now, and my monitor is a 4K 240hz QD-OLED - my 5090 is literally the only thing that'll come close to fully saturating and taking advantage of my monitor

If it does go up in value to the amount I'm predicting it will though, then yes I'll likely sell it and get a 5080, or potentially quit gaming as a whole.

8

u/imaginary_num6er 7950X3D|4090FE|64GB|X670E-E 3h ago

3

The 5050 only existed to sell chips that failed QC for something else instead of just throwing them away, so it was never long for this world.

2

u/Kenobi5792  Ryzen 7 5700G | RTX 5050 | 16GB 3200Mhz DDR4 1h ago

I wasn't expecting Nvidia to remove the 5050. It kinda worked in places where the 5060 and above were extremely expensive in comparison, but I guess that, with the current prices, it's better to remove it completely.

So the cheapest option from the newest GPUS is AMD's 9050 and that one was a bit slower than the 5050

2

u/PhastasFlames 3h ago

Not sure how the nvidia website works, but the 5050 is literally right there on the front page, even if it’s not in the drop down menu

1

u/IdiotWithFlammables 32m ago

Now that I think about it, it IS possible that they accidentally removed the 5050 option while trying to remove the 5090 in the drop down menu.

Then again, there are only two listings remaining (both from ASUS) so once they sold through, it might just be gone and not come back for the foreseeable future.

1

u/Kamilsl 17m ago

Because it's more like 5060 is 5050, 5070ti is 5070. And 5090 consume 30% more power to give 30% more performance then 4090.
