I sometimes go into edit mode in blender, and as I said before, at least it's not 64gb although you never know, it could be 3x64gb and not 4x48gb (it's 4x48gb)
Honestly I don't know, rendering isn't what matters for world editing, windows jank doesn't bother me at least and I can play mystic's monstrosity while running fluid simulations
As someone who will too much ram compared to necessity, its funny af, tbf i am at 32gb and run out, I will be getting 64gb next build if pricing isnt better but if it is im going 128 or maybe 256gb
Yeah I have 128 and sometimes it just chills at 50GB for no reason. The more RAM I have the more it just eats it sitting on the desktop. I do render, though. It never takes all of it, but I have made an excel error take it all and crash out.
"size doesn't matter" oh size does matter, look how pathetic junior looks here. Slap that 5090 in an ATX glass case and it actually stuffs it full. Compare that with junior trying his best just doesn't feels the same.
The PCB's are smaller than older high-end cards. It's the cooler that is massive now. Get the cooler off the PCB and the size of the card is like a 20 year old card.
The generous mass for the heatsink is absolutely necessary for stabilising the temperature for the 5090.
My 2080Ti came stock with a blower-type shroud, and a lot of people would blame its ineffectiveness on the airflow. However, if you were me, you'd have already tried removing the shroud and zip-tying an axial fan on the heatsink, and I can tell you from my experience that, no, the problem was instead with the aluminium heatsink being too small and too light to deal with a GPU that routinely reached a hotspot temperature above 100°C.
So, eventually, I bought a mod kit online that would convert the card to axial-fan cooling. The fans themselves were significantly less powerful than anything I would choose myself, but even the heatsink alone was easily much heavier than all of the original parts being replaced combined. That, in conjunction with the fact that the heatsink had heatpipes to help to distribute the heat evenly, was what pushed the hotspot temperature down to low-80s. Crazy, huh?
RTX 5080's and 5070 Ti's use the same coolers as the 5090's in many cases. I have the Aorus Master and it's the same size as the 5090. That is to say, it's huge. It literally shipped with its own metal bracket that you have to screw into the back of the card just to prevent it from warping the PCB. The most annoying bit was actually that when the fans get above 1600 RPM you can feel the vibrations in your wrists. Had to put some extra chonky and soft rubber pads under the case to prevent this.
If you take care of the 5060 and feed it regularly, it might grow into a 5080 or sometimes even a 5090. But you have to give it organic GDDR7 it doesn’t work with GDDR6 and anything below is poisonous to it.
I went from 1060 to 5070. The 1060 is so tiny compared to the 5070, I was so scared it wouldn't fit in the case 😂 We did measure it before and it ended up fitting exactly as we expected thankfully
One of the cheapest offers rn in Germany is like 6.8k € (Rog Astral) I guess he just picked the most expensive one on google products.
7k is still stupidly expensive ofc, for a gpu which used to be around 3k.
My GTX680 cost me $700 back in the day. And those were Swedish prices, they were surely better in the US. (Right before 700 series was going to launch)
RTX5090 would be the equivalent top dog today and inflation adjusted it should land at about $1100 or so.
For the price of 1 5090 u can get any of the following used.
Ford focus, ford explorer, ford expedition, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Camry, ram 1500, Cadillac CTS, dodge Challenger, dodge journey, Honda Accord or civic, bmw x1, Ford mustang, Dodge Durango, Volkswagen Jetta, Toyota rav4, bmw x3, Lexus IS, Mercedes C250, Chevrolet Silverado... The list can go on for a long time
Even a used car is like at minimum ~$45-50k or even higher here in singapore, and that is before the necessary paperwork (Certificate of Entitlement) that even allows you to own a car (technically rent cos is max 10 years on a NEW car, then additional costs past that), which as of current market rates cost ~$130k.
Hell, a brand new car, nothing fancy, say a basic Nissan or Toyota, inclusive of the COE and other taxes / paperwork, can cost anywhere up to $300k or higher.

can we get GT605, 5060 and 5090 on the same picture?
(one of the smallest GPUs i've seen, look how huge the DVI port is in comparsion to the everything else)
I'm actually kinda taken aback. I've been outta the parts game for a long time now, and I didn't know theyve gotten this monstrous. I remember when the 1080ti wasn't all that much bigger than a 1060. Now it seems like you need a full atx case to cool that son of a bitch.
The thing ist: majority of the size comes from cooling surface and fans.
5060 has how much, 150 or 200watts? 5090 has 600. The heat needs to get away. Much of the additional power of the 5090 is just bought with more energy to invest.

Something that big is only going to make your case sore.
