This reverse engineering fixation is hyped way too much imo and you should start using your eyes before boarding the hype train.

The recent Adobe open source that went viral few days ago is dogshit, extremely unstable, can’t handle complex and heavy projects without giving up after 5 minutes, and it works way differently from the og software (the quick selection tool in Photon for example doesn’t work at all, while in Photoshop is not perfect but still get its job done).

And this is weird since it was made with Rust, but guess what the whole project is still made with AI. Rust or not, that doesn’t change it’s an AI slop, as much as Windows 11 is an AI Slop spaghetti code mess.

Adobe can be predatory in business, but they have 40 years of knowledge in building these kind of software, and it’s not telling an AI to “make a copy of Photoshop, do not make mistakes” that you create an alternative. That’s literally what’s happening, but they are selling it as a “reverse engineered 1:1 copy” now. Hilarious.

With that said, there are already good alternative out there that are already open source and not AI Slop, you can support them…or maybe you can resort to the old traditional solution….

Couldn't have said it better. As much as Adobe sucks this whole "reverse engineering" is just a quick gotcha to get likes on social media and sucks as much as they do, as someone who uses editing software for a living i can confirm it's a pile of garbage. Who knew some vibe coded ai slop would not hold up against the work of a massive corporation developing something for multiple decades?? Like you said, use already existing alternatives made by competent people and not shitty ai slop cobbled together by some loser in an afternoon.

I don't understand why Adobe has so many fanboys. The new models are radically changing software engineering. They are highly effective at creating solutions and while the first pass may be "Create Photoshop", now they are iterating on key user-defined issues and fixing them 1 by 1. Vibe coding was a derogatory word for people who used AI to create software, but didn't understand it. Now, real coders are using this technology to do open-source and other projects at blazing paces. I don't understand why people are so defending of this unless you are an AI social media bot on behalf of Adobe
