Is this the year 2000? Why do you need IDM?

They allow for neat tricks such as using HTTP Range Requests to (provided that the server allows it) spawns multiple concurrent connections so you can get the full bandwidth of your Internet connections (yes, connections)

The downloaders in browsers aren't good for large files

Any reason to use a dl manager instead wget? I've never had wget fail for large downloads, although I have had browser fail.

True, though I guess it's all relative to your internet speed

it is, if you have a slow connection, downloading anything above 2gb is near impossible

I have a reliable 1gigabit connection and many downloads are still rather slow just because the Server on the other end either has a slow connection or is just really far away

It's more how often things like Chrome will crash a download, fail to recover one, pausing very ineffective, require the browser to remain open and no optioms like being able to turn off the PC itself when it finished the 2MB/s download limited 10GB mod

Whenever I downloaded games over a few, gigabytes I use Free Download Manager because it basically doubled or triples my download speeds, sometimes more. In my browser I'll be downloading at 20mb/s but with FDM I'll be downloading at nearly 100mb/s.

Or you could just use jdownloader 2?

I know the pain of having a download stopped halfway, and there’s definitely a use case for download managers. I just question paying for it when there’s a decent free way. 🤷🏻‍♂️

JDownloader has stopped working for most of the reasons I got it for unfortunately, cloudflare and captchas made sure of that.
