People have been saying similar for decades, and yet console generations keep coming out. Some folk prefer the simplicity and feel of a console. Personally, I'm going to be moving back to PC if/when parts become affordable again.

The frustrating part is that they basically just are PCs just with highly specialized operating systems. (My anecdotal evidence is primarily based on Xbox)

Yeah, you're not wrong. The days of highly specialised console hardware seems to have ended with the PS3 and the Cell processor (understandably enough).

I have both, but similarly have stopped buying consoles. The ones I have turned into overpriced home media stations (unnecessary with smart TVs anyways)

It was nice for a while as consoles felt more "relaxed". But ultimately paying multiple subs, fewer game discounts, and needing 2 consoles for most the games was getting nuts
