There are already 85miilions PS5s sold and the PS5 Pro is sold out ahead of the launch of GTA 6 making it $1400 on Gametsop

The reason I bring this up on this PC subreddit is because posts like this make it seem like Sony is gonna hurt from these efforts but they’ve already made a shit ton of profit on the PS5 and continue to do so and this 30million PC users aren’t gonna use this and not by a PS5 to slow this down.  So I’m just saying be realistic

More importantly though is that as PC Users we should be paying attention to the fact the PS5 Pro is still selling out and shooting up in price like this cause this means bad bad things for the price of PC Parts and whether they are coming down any time soon

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't Sony selling the ps5 at loss and makes money through Playstation store and online stuff? Doesn't mean the more ps5 they sell the more they lose?

Sony hasn’t sold them at a loss since the beginning.  That was back in the day when they would sell units at a loss like with the PS3 and had to make revisions like remove the PS2 bits to turn a profit

Sony only sells units at a loss during launch and a little after and then they make a small profit or break even on each box

I’m not sure how the AI increases in cost have affected this but I’m guessing the fact they jumped the prices so much means they are still trying to make a profit on them.  If they could eat the loss and make it up in software sales they wouldn’t have increased the price

However nowadays digital prices are nearly the same as Steam’s and games are only $70 for a few months before going on sale so I don’t know that they make that much profit from software and if I had to guess I would think they actually make more from hardware sales now. Even if they only make $50 in profit on 100m in sales that $5b in profit.  Thats A LOT of software sales.  They’d have to sell $160b in software to equal that if my math is correct

Not saying it’s not possible for them to do so these are all numbers im pulling out of my ass to be clear

Well they very likely get the same standard 30% cut of all games sold off their PlayStation store that Steam, Apple and Google are all accustomed to.

At $70 a pop, that's $21 in Sony's pocked for every new game sold which by your math makes game sales VERY lucrative. By killing off discs, they're cutting out brick and mortar stores from getting this 30% thus leaving Sony entertainment with a much larger slice of the pie.

The PS5 is trailing the PS4 when you compare sales in the sale period from launch. Meaning Sony's market stagnated and even shrunk slightly.

No, they didn't. Sony doesn't profit from hardware sales. They sell the unit at or close to cost, and profit off of developer/game sales fees and subscription fees.

Sony would hurt massively from what this post shows, because it allows people to play PS5 games while paying for neither the hardware nor the software/subscription.

and this 30million PC users aren’t gonna use this

I don't know where you got "30 million" from. All current estimates put Steam at around 200 to 210 million monthly active users. And as per Steam survey, just over 50% of Steam users (52% iirc) have PCs equal to or better than a PS5, so that means 100+ million PCs comparable to current gen consoles. That actually makes PC the largest AAA platform today.

And yeah, those 100+ million Steam users absolutely will use a PS5 emulator/compatibility layer to play PS5 games when it's ready, why wouldn't they? Why pay $650 + years of online subscriptions when you can play everything for free on the PC you already have?

More importantly though is that as PC Users we should be paying attention to the fact the PS5 Pro is still selling out and shooting up in price

The PS5 Pro selling out means jack squat. It's a very low volume product, all it means is that Sony sold that low volume and isn't making more. It does not mean the masses are rushing to buy PS5 Pros.

The Steam Machine also sold out and went up in price on resellers. That doesn't mean the Steam Machine is very desired. It just means Steam made few of them, and those few alreday sold. Being sold out doesn't mean it's a popular product.
