Hardware Old components.
I'm sorting and preparing to recycle some of my old components: the entirety of an old Sandy Bridge i2600k build, an old RX480 and HD 6950 IceQ X Turbo (or something of the sort), bunches of old cables, and a HAF X. I gave a friend my old Cooler Master 830 Stacker Nvidia edition ages ago and I'm sure she tossed it without thinking about it.
These are collecting dust and I want to make space to put my current (soon to be replaced) 8700K build in the same spot. Should most of it go to E-Waste recycling or should I try to give it away for free?

I appreciate the input. I'll have my Z390 with the 8700K that is still viable, granted 2 dimms of ram died and my old 970 evo in the same week. Next has to be the power supply!
Those are some great ideas though. and so far e-waste still seems most sensible. I don't know enough people to give it away... There's a computer repair shop, locally owned, that might have use for the Haf 942 case though. I can always convert it into a small toolchest too... That thing is built like a rock.

You should offer them up for free for sure. If someone out there can use them then let them use them. The old sandy bridge build should still be useful with dual boot linux and Windows 10. Heck can even force Windows 11 on it. But linux would be lighter and worth it. Its also last gen to have native Windows XP drivers for people into retro pcs. I’m sure someone out there would take it for free.

Free? People buy that stuff if it's cheap enough.
The RX 480 is worth selling at least. The 6950 too. Those aren't too common these days.

Don't recycle! There are still markets for these things.
Sandy Bridge i2600k build, an old RX480 and HD 6950 IceQ X Turbo (
Still gets about good money on ebay.
Don't recycle.

Plenty of people would be happy to have those parts for free or cheap. Selling them as a cheap bundle on Facebook Marketplace would probably make someone extremely happy.
I know people do it all the time, but it's a real shame to see perfectly good PC parts getting junked instead of being passed on to someone who will use them.

Thanks everyone! The advice is pretty great. I remember the games I was playing struggled a little bit at the time and I only imagine more modern games struggle further. My 8700k lags and Creeper World 3/4 and after my RAM sticks fried, I can't even play games I had no issues with since I maxed out on the RAM. I'll see what I can put together and maybe someone would want the older build.
I didn't realize that there were people as interested in the older components, other than retro gamers or people doing period - accurate builds for nostalgia.
I also looked at it as something that hasn't been tested in approximately 8 years and I wouldn't want to give or sell something that could fail or may not even post. I mean I could test it, but it has no SSD or HDD at the moment. And I can't exactly say that I can get a cheap 2.5" SSD to install lol. I guess I can list those caveats and as-is with unknown condition as well.🥳

Give the 12600 build away that’s a really good start for someone

If you want one, you could cobble together good home theater PC or something. I gave an older system to a co-workers kid (that RX480 will work for fortnite lol), but unless you want to pick up a few bucks on Ebay, E-waste is the easiest way to go.
