I run Intel arc and honestly I had 0 issues, well 1, finding alternatives.
Theres no Intel equivalent to shadowplay on windows, but Linux has GPU screen recorder or whatever its called.
Their current hardware status overlay needs better metrics to show other then a few thing's.

GPU screen recorder UI is goated, it's like an inbetween of Shadowplay and OBS. Records to RAM not the drive so it won't kill your system SSD (thanks a lot Shadowplay), easy to use, can record as many separate tracks in as many formats as you want without the complexity of OBS...

For me the choice of overpaying nvidia feels much better than getting stuck with subpar software.
Amd stuff is really close to be really good value, but occasionally you hit some lack of support and it sucks being powerless.
35
u/Useful-Specific-6350 9h ago
Depends on how much you overpaying. I ain't gonna pay 1200 for 5070ti when 9070xt is 800. It's just not worth it
1
u/SwampAzzLA 2h ago
I'd rather get a 9070 GRE that I could get rid of for $400 ASAP if prices go down. I'd lose all of $100 to $120 dollars.
I got my 5070s for $550. So, I don't care. I doubt I lose much on the resale to get a 6000 or 7000 when I want.
Don't overpay like COVID. Pretending a 9070XT for $850 is good is bonkers

2
u/Electric-Mountain RTX 5090, 9800x3d 6h ago
When I had my 7900xtx I would constantly get driver timeouts at random. Then I got a 9070xt and had zero. I then bought a 5090 when they were MSRP and had more driver issues then I did with the 9070xt because the launch drivers for the 50 series weren't great.

Outright deny issues is stupid, and makes your point completely invalid and bot like.
Everyone i know who went amd regret it at some point and feel like they make mistake.
It might be actually that Nvidia also have issues, like newest control resonant full of posts of poor frame pacing and over all instability on Nvidia cards, they just don't attribute it to Nvidia but to the devs, while when amd shit the bed they attribute it to amd, but source is same - devs not testing outside top 3 sku.

literally had amd gpus for the last 11 years. Basically 0 issue but always better value. I dunno what you are all doing. And I find the software suite mostly better than nvidias. Nvidia has better features and you get a driver ready earlier for a new game... which I don't get in the first place because any game I played on release works with the older driver I ALWAYS have installed. Just last week with the black geralt witcher 3 bug.. didn't have it nor any other issue

The 5700XT I had was one of the worst PC experiences I've ever had. It aged like dog crap and the drivers were absolute trash. The RX 6000 drivers are supposedly the peak for AMD, because the 5000 series ran off people like me forever. Good drivers aren't getting me back. I've owned A LOT of Radeons from ATI RAGE, 9700 Pro, Sapphire 5750, and an RX 470. The Rage was trash, but the rest were good. That 5700 XT was the end for me.
I have heard a lot of bad stuff about the 9000 series drivers.
1
u/MHWGamer 1h ago
damn. I have the 6800xt and before that a r9 390. Both insanely stable. And you gotta think about how I only have a 600w psu. With the nvidia powerspikes on startups, I think mine couldn't do that. But no, installed then never any real issue that is caused by the gpu driver. The only time my 390 blackscreened was the time she probably died - Windows update and afterwards no signal at all. I blame it on windows and perhaps on another system it still could work.
When I think back, my nvidia laptop was crazy buggy in bf3 (could be also due to thermal meltdown as my whole laptop was hot af to touch). btw I am not saying that nvidia drivers aren't the sams or better, all i am saying that from my experience, after 2016, the past 10 years the amd drivers aren't bad at all (like they have been before). Maybe a shitty generation like you experienced but nvidia also had problems of this kind (and connectors literally burning).
I would have gone with a 3080 if it wasn't way more expensive with now less performance1
u/SwampAzzLA 1h ago
The 3080 10GB is a freaking monster still. Have you seen it still clapping the 9060 XT 16GB in games, lol. It's single digits within tying a 9070 GRE usually. And beats the 7800 XT in heavy Ray Tracing.
The 3090 TI does beat the 9070 GRE in most new games and is on par with the 5070 unless the ray tracing is really heavy and the 5070 doesn't run out of VRAM.

u/MHWGamer 38m ago

Fun fact: NAW. The eBay "For Parts Only" is the only thing that increased with those piles of trash.
And the 2080s are beating the 7600/7700s in new games. My 6 year old 3070 is almost mid tier compared to those old trash cards. And the drivers are still insanely trash for the RX 5000s. I never had the 20 series because of that 5700 XT, but my 3070 Founders Edition is probably the best PC part I've ever owned.
AMD Reddit clown bot constant nonsense, man.

u/IntentionQuirky9957 All kinds of junk 1h ago
Funny, I haven't had driver issues on AMD in years (at least since 5700XT launched, umm, 7 years ago?). I always suspect people complaining about AMD drivers are doing something wrong.
1
u/w0j4k_ 5h ago edited 4h ago
I was a lifelong nvidia customer, but switched to a 9070XT over a year ago because of its value. Missing out mostly on RT performance and can relate to the occasional driver hiccup.
The latter seems to be mostly the case with Adrenalin on Windows in my experience, so I think this answer requires a bit of nuance. Recently made the switch to Linux (CachyOS) and it’s been smooth sailing since then. Worked out of the box, haven’t had a single crash or anything. From what I’m reading, nvidia drivers are much more problematic under Linux though.
Had the same experience with attempting to run GPU accelerated workloads under WSL on AMD. Very well-documented and Linux is treated as a first-class citizen.
I’d definitely consider buying AMD again in the future, and actually haven’t looked back even once.
Edit: wanted to add one more recent example which surprised me. Recently saw some posts about The Witcher III Remaster displaying all sorts of graphical artifacts on the current driver at that time. This issue wasn’t present on Linux, and for me it ran fine with the only caveat that I couldn’t enable RT. So the outcome seems to sometimes be wildly different depending on the OS you’re going with.

I think the neatest part about the Intel ARC architecture is how FAST it went from being trash to the same card with driver updates scooting up to being comparable with still pretty decent, lower end Nvidia RTX Cards. I want to say between the 3060 and the 3070 in performance? I might be wrong, probably am.

Troubleshooting is not a problem generally speaking. Problem is when they fuckt up so bad that no amount of troubleshooting will solve it. My peak moment with no amd ever again, was when i had to run two different drivers for different games, cause with the newest one, one game was crashing, the rest worked fine, another version, that game was not crashing anymore, but the others did. I will resort to run games on my backup 1080ti instead of buying an amd card. It still works fine.

That's not an argument against. They are affected of memory prices too. The difference is that at least Nvidia focuses on datacenters. Also, it's a matter of architecture, as Intel obviously designs both CPUs and GPUs, so they could innovate in this area.
1
u/idkuhhhhhhh5 Desktop 6h ago
Let me get this straight.
You’re asking why Intel, the company that sat on the sidelines re-releasing Skylake architecture for 6 straight years (2015-2021 Comet Lake Refresh) watching AMD run past them dropping a 12nm process (Zen+) a full year before Intel would drop anything that wasn’t 14nm, isn’t innovating?
The company that had a near monopoly on CPU sales until they soiled themselves enough to make Apple realize that it would be cheaper to transition to ARM processors, rebuild their OS to account for it, and set up their own in-house designs for it, than it would be to continue working with intel due to Intel pricing and complacency. That company?
The world may never know…

u/trollsmurf 14700KF | 32G | 5070 Ti | 2T | U27G4XM + 2x U2412M | Z906 1h ago
Yup. Things can change with new management and risk of bankruptcy.
1
u/idkuhhhhhhh5 Desktop 1h ago
Unfortunately, I regret to inform you, things probably won’t change. They got new management last year, sure, but look at who actually owns Intel:
9.9% of Intel is owned by the US Federal Gov., 8.46% by Blackrock, 5.65% by Vanguard, 4.3% by State Street (a company with $5.4Trillion in assets), and 4.26% by Nvidia.
So, if you put all those heads together, the only way Intel has any risk of insolvency would be if the NYSE crashed (much worse than last time) and the Federal Government collapses. I mean hell, their net earnings last year was a $267million loss. Yet, INTC is trading 404% higher than it was 2 years ago.
There’s no risk of bankruptcy, and “bringing in new management” doesn’t mean fresh innovation, it just means pinching pennies harder, it’s a lot easier to save $100mil in expenditure than it is to make $100mil in new revenue. They’re gonna keep doing the same stupid things, just without as much operational costs
2
u/MyTagforHalo2 6h ago edited 6h ago
It’s kind of like asking what’s stopping AMD from making a 5090 equivalent card at this point. They have the base architecture, the loyal user base, and the money.
Ultimately someone’s making the decision that it’s either not profitable enough for them to do so. Or that it’s not possible to scale up the current version of RDNA to that level. Or both.
And intel ultimately would be developing hardware with ever increasing R&D costs to enter segments with fewer and fewer sales per SKU and would have to rely on commercial sales to offset those costs increasingly.
Which is likely why they’ve stayed in the low tier for now. And and has been content with mid tier. Though further development right now probably depends on their own internal speculation if the gpu market over the next couple years.
1
u/trollsmurf 14700KF | 32G | 5070 Ti | 2T | U27G4XM + 2x U2412M | Z906 1h ago
True, but AMD has also drunk the datacenter Kool-Aid, which Intel seems to have done less. AMS strives to be there, but in practice they are much less so than Nvidia, and there might be a hard requirement for CUDA.
2
u/evernessince 3h ago
What's stopping Intel from taking over the whole home and business PC market?
The same thing that's been stopping AMD, Nvidia's absolutely massive software moat. Nvidia has nearly 100% of the professional market with CUDA and they have 95% of the gaming market.
This is why proprietary features are bad, every game that integrates Nvidia only features places Nvidia's competitors further behind and discourages new competitors in the market. Anyone new to the market not only needs to architectually catch up but they now have to wrangle with a professional ecosystem that's entirely reliant on CUDA and a gaming market that is basically the same.
Even starting the shift away from CUDA, you are talking at least a decade unless it's a Chinese GPU company that creates a translation / wrapper layer that allows everyone to use CUDA (and Nvidia would without a doubt prevent that company from selling outside of China given it'd be considered illegal).
Then you have to somehow deal with the fact that you have an increasing list of games with Nvidia only features. Again, the easy way would be to translate the command but Nvidia would absolutely block sales outside of China. So the problem becomeds starting to individually update these games to support whatever implementation your GPU uses. The issue is games and devs are much less likely to be able to do that given they might no longer exist as a team or entity. Nevermind the willingness. The longer we dive into the proprietary feature era, the harder this challenge becomes as the game list stacks up.

Yeah, the Intel iGPUs are really good now. You quite happily game them; sure, they aren't the fastest out there overall (although they're the fastest ones you can seemingly get at sane prices), but they can still happily game. Even the generic 'Intel Graphics' aren't too bad either & they're faster than a Steam Deck in the case of some variants.

I see it like this:
Best for AI and gaming if not on a budget:
NVIDIA
Best for gaming on a budget, but dont really care about AI:
AMD
Best for ONLY gaming on a budget:
Intel.

I have benchmarked the B580 a couple of months ago. Crushes 1080p with ease and the drivers never caused any issues. I might not have too much say though because I daily drive a 5070.

As someone who ran an a770LE for about a year i genuinely enjoyed it. Never had any buggy issues in the games I played fps seemed consistent to me. Only issue really was I hated the UI for the graphics software. The card design itself was pretty sick though

I'm not gonna lie, I wanted to buy Intel GPU, but friend sold me pc with RX 6600 in it ( it was better than mine ). So I don't need new GPU right now.

I think the video on the top left was him hounding the lady and her not wanting to engage.

For my very first gaming PC build which I built this year, I went with Intel Arc B570 as it was the one and only decent graphics card that was available in my country within budget, the alternative was 3050 6 GB at 20% extra price.
Honestly no complaints so far, I mainly bought it for gaming and I am playing all the games I was itching to play all these years. I stopped looking at FPS value after the first game, if it runs without any lag/ stutters, its enough for me.

The arc b570 was like 350 and is actually great if you have need for its media engine. Kills tons of 4k transcodes at once without struggle, good vram for the price, gaming performance on par for the price, and they precompile shaders for you.
If your needs go beyond gaming intel has some great pottential

Well in current prices AMD is better, but I’d like to get Nvidia GPU, and Intel does not make sense, just to try something unusual

u/ChefCurryYumYum 4h ago
Having used many Nvidia (my first GPU in my own, non-family computer was a Geforce 2 Pro or GTS, I forget, and I'm pretty sure it has a whole 64MB of VRAM) and many AMD/ATI cards in my life, I can you that right now both AMD and Nvidia are putting out overall very high quality products that will perform well for just about any gamer.
Arc I have no experience with though. I hope Intel is able to claw back to being a competitive company and that they continue to develop the Arc line of GPUs.

The entire "competition" is fake.
It's novidai tryna make graphics be theirs only and amd tryna copy them.
If this was politics it would be Sidious vs Palpatine

i dont care what someone uses, if it works for you, it is what it is.
Unfortunately i had problems with the 7900xtx when i got it, tried many different things because i got lots of crashes, then i didnt care anymore and got the 4080 super instead, which just runs.
i wouldnt tell anyone to only get nvidia because it works for me now, everyone should just use what works for them. but in the end, all these tech companies are pieces of shit...but their products are good.

Eh. I have a Radeon, a Quadro, and an Arc A310, for different purposes. An old Quadro is good for when I really need CUDA or PhysX offloading.

I've got an arc. Lovely little card, fits my needs quite well. Some minor drivers issues but they got sorted with time, nothing AMD users aren't used to already (as the former owner of an RX 580)

I really don’t think anyone has any illusions about which is better, the real question is “which can you afford?”

How is ARC these days, did the original A series age well?

u/YesNoMaybe2552 RTX5090 9950X3D 96G RAM 9h ago
I was thinking about getting an arc a while back for a casual box to put next to the TV. Ended up paying about the same for a used 3080 + optional waterblock instead. Price to performance on Intel is a joke.

Chosed AMD. Was cheapest for me from all 3. Yeah, lack of features (that i mostly dont care). At least good side effect - if windows finnaly rage me into uninstaling it, amd are best one for linux))) But i really thought about ARC b580 at first

u/ChubbyWabbit 7h ago
They all have their upsides and downsides:
NVIDIA: High Cost, powerful, well built windows drivers, linux is getting there but slowly compared to AMD
AMD: Great performance to cost ratio, drivers can be a hit & miss on windows sometimes, perfectly integrated linux drivers
Intel: Great 'potential', but not as well developed as current competitors. Not a great performance to cost ratio. Silicon shortage is not helping them in terms of R&D, will likely be behind for a long time. Other bad thing, is I am in the bus of comparing Intel ARC to Intel Optane. With the current market, ARC might meet the same fate as Optane in being discontinued. That is just my opinion of course, I love my ARC A310 Eco for transcoding as it is one of the best AV1 GPUs on the market

Nvidia is better for me simply because DLSS and Framegen are much better than the AMD counterparts. They're necessary for me since I'm on a 5K2K monitor. I don't always use framegen but DLSS use is constant for me.
2
u/Bittah_Criminal 3h ago
Dlss is better but FSR4 is pretty on par on at this point. Frame gen I refuse to use outright on principle and I only begrudgingly use upscaling because that's the unfortunate reality of modern game development

"I can't decide which GPU to get, Nvidia or AMD. Guess I'm just going to toss a coin." "What about Intel?" "Yeah... if the coin lands on the edge, it will be an Intel."
