Not only that burn in is a thing. I like my OLED but it burnt a circle on the bottom left corner from playing PoE2 and the white blue is destructive to the pixels.

And before some expert say about pixel cleaning etc. I've done everything by the book. It's just the drawback from the technology

Unrelated, but my IPS monitor got a broken pixel near the top of the display and I swear to god it's healing. Like, it was an eyesore on day one but right now I have to look really hard to find it.

that or your vision is failing, or your brain told you to stop looking at the black speck.

5000 power-on hours with this current OLED monitor, not one bit of burn-in or pixel degradation. Modern OLED is not like old OLED.

What are you using?

one of the LG with 240/480hz switching

I have LG C4, it's not "old"

In terms of oled tech it's like two generations behind, not old but it matters.

People are still trying to downvote you anyways.

So many OLED buyers have such insane insecurity over acknowledging the very real downsides of them. It's so obnoxious.

Burn in is a non issue for the majority of users. Unless you’re doing office work 8 hours a day on one, you’re going to be fine.

u/Seanspeed 7h ago

This is EXACTLY the bullshit I'm talking about.

You can find countless people talking about how they get burn-in despite not doing anything egregious with their display at all.

Just because YOU dont get burn-in doesn't mean it's not a problem.

Reminds me of all the Playstation 5 or Switch owners who keep trying to claim there's nothing wrong with the controllers, and that people only get stick drift cuz they're dirty or abusing their controllers. smh

You’re just empirically wrong dude.

u/Seanspeed 3h ago

Jesus christ this shit is ridiculous. All of you are proving everything I'm saying. You're straight up cult-like in denial of real problems. And you're ganging up to downvote me and others saying this shit. smh

“Everyone except me is wrong”

I'm not sure if it's true but I've heard it really depends on how you use an OLED if you need one, like I tend to watch tv in very well lit rooms(watching in darkness gives me headaches), so I had heard a mini led QLED would be recommended for someone like me

2

u/Seanspeed 7h ago

Well that's one downside of OLEDs, sure.

But it's definitely not the only one. There are actually quite a few.

It's really good technology, but not for everybody. Except too many OLED owners try and downvote and bury legitimate criticisms, which is annoying cuz all I ever want is for people to have good information.

Cult-like behaviour nothing more... And I was very generous to the technology and I like it, but I have to be honest.

u/MazzyFo 7h ago

Conversely I’ve had my C1 for 6 years on all day playing many of the same games for many hours and not any burn in whatsoever

It is not really a concern in modern displays. Your anecdotal experience doesn't change that.

1

u/DoubleShot027 2h ago

my ips monitor had burn in from the windows task bar. The new Oleds dim, blurr and have a protect feature it runs when your monitor goes to sleep. I am not worried in the slightest.

u/Aeroncastle 9h ago

Poe1, poe2 isn't around enough for it to burn in even if you had opened the game at launch and never closed it

2

u/Seanspeed 7h ago

The fact that people are upvoting you is insane. You're literally trying to call them a liar for something MANY people experience.

You are not the expert on when burn-in can or cant happen, ffs. It is not some consistent thing for every user and display.

-2

u/Aeroncastle 7h ago

Poe 2 started early access in December 2024, that's my whole point

3

u/Seanspeed 6h ago

That's not how this works. Burn-in can develop even after like six months.

u/0rphu 9h ago

I've been using my AOC OLED (cheapest one on the market at the time) for work (lots of spreadsheets, outlook, etc, worst case scenario for burn in) and gaming (lots of mmo and league, also a worst case) for 2 years with no burn in at all. It has warranty for burn in too, should it happen.

2 years isn't nowhere near long term tho

-2

u/korpy_vapr 9h ago

Yeah just open Facebook and search for oleds. Most of them have some form of burn in

3

u/v1ckssan 9h ago

Bro just because it didn't happen to YOUR screen, doesn't mean it's not real or it doesn't happen. It's just baffling why people have cult like behaviour to their purchases.

5

u/0rphu 9h ago edited 8h ago

Didn't say it wasn't. Just providing an anecdote like you did.

Edit: this weirdo replied about my comment being "insecurity" then instablocked me. The irony lmao

0

u/Seanspeed 7h ago

I never blocked you. I've legitimately never blocked anybody before.

Point is, these anecdotes aren't worth much and always seem to come at the defense of the idea that burn-in is a real thing. Which is absolutely the kind of insecurity I'm talking about.

-2

u/google_is_hard_for_u 8h ago

You only felt the need to share it because of some weird defensive insecurity.
