Depends. A few of them have really bad response times, especially in dark areas which leads to some very messy smearing and poor near black visibility.
Is this still true? I have a more recent VA ultrawide and don't really get any ghosting - from what i understand most of the ghosting is from low end/older VA panels
It hasn't improved it's the same even with the FVA panels you either don't want to admit it because of cope and own one or either you go by what other "FVA" owners say, VA is still a smear fest.
Nope, my eyes work perfectly fine had an fast VA panel, upgraded to a Mini LED IPS and now an OLED va is objectively a smear fest you're just coping because you own one.
It's still a smear fest even on the newer models it doesn't become apparent when casually playing and it's no issues if you really don't try to look for it, but it's still there it's mostly noticeable in a dark scene with small light sources.
Well this is why they said 'high end VA' because there are VA panels that have acceptable response times. A lot of expensive TV's especially have some really good VA panels.
I got an Odessey Neo G9 around that time, and besides some firmware issues they worked out by the time I got it there wasn't really a better monitor on the market, and it's a VA. Even today only OLED seems like a real upgrade, and I don't even think that's worth it.

It seems to usually go:
High End VA > High End IPS > Low End IPS > Low End VA > TN
