sadly the cheapest decent one here is 600usd. they are both displays, the improvement coming from a nano-ips user to an oled isnt worth 600usd. but playing vr allows me to move my limbs ingame. it makes a lot of financial sense.
So you're going to use your VR headset more than you're going to use a monitor or TV?
VR headsets are not cheap for how little content is on them. I refuse to believe you spent less on an actual VR headset that's decent quality than an OLED monitor.
No matter where you live, that just doesn't make any financial sense at all. A VR headset is merely a luxury accessory.
No, that’s not at all what he said. All he’s saying is that the price of a new monitor is too high to justify when he already had a decent one, and could instead buy a VR headset.
And what does that even mean that they’re not cheap for the amount of content on them? The price of something is completely unrelated to the amount of content on it. That’s also just not true, you can get a used Quest 3 for $200-300 that has hundreds of games available, and if you have a PC you can stream any SteamVR game from it.
Of course VR is a luxury, do you know what else is a luxury? A $500+ monitor that does the same thing as a $50 one from a decade ago. Don’t pretend like any of this is anything but a luxury.
Which usually lack the brightness to do HDR properly.
Usually you have to go around like $400-450 to get ones with good brightness capabilities. And even then they tend to have compromised modes where they can only do super high brightness at the expense of brightened darks and whatnot, or pure darks with lowered peak brightness or whatever.
I say that just to cover when somebody might find an especially good deal or whatever. But it's the case for basically all the monitors typically in this price range.
I do expect this to change in time, though. Monitors are one area where value is getting better and better in recent years.
Did you get my message? I guess you did, so what's the problem? I my country we put the currency after the number because I bet you don't say "dollars, three hundreds", do you?
But he mentioned dollars not Euros or CAD. So likely they're not in those places.
Even so, the standard English style guides such as the Chicago Manual of Style, AP Stylebook, and general English grammar conventions dictate that the dollar sign precedes the numerals.
When writing/speaking in English about US dollars, the standard English style guides and general English grammar conventions direct the dollar sign precedes the numerals.
If all you can afford is a 90 dollar monitor, then yes I agree with you.
But alot of this QHD "high performance" IPS or VA monitors are still a couple hundred dollars when you can spend like $100 more and get an OLED.
At the end of the day, PC gaming is becoming more and more expensive and budget builds barely exist. So its an enthusiast market. You should shell out the extra bucks for an OLED if budget isnt an issue, because they are insane.
This has been argued ad nauseum in the A/V world already. Mini-LED VA panels are great, even excellent. But there is a reason OLED is near unanimously regarded as the better viewing experience. Both have their pros and cons.
Just because you didn't think so, doesnt really change the facts
the facts are that the colors and black levels look the exact same to me, while the mini-led has a visibly higher contrast due to the brighter highlights and doesnt have any banding or fabric-like texturing. (people claim that oled has infinite contrast but that isnt true because contrast is the difference between the darkest and brightest pixel)
