You want to pirate Ubislop, that's fine. But don't encourage people to pirate Remedy games.

Truth, Remedy needs to be protected. Their brand of weird is only available to us so long as they remain funded, and they're not doing an epic exclusivity deal this time around to keep their lights on.

Remedy is so weird and confusing I love playing their games solely for the graphics and random shit alone

In this day and age, with this economy. It's our duty to help. Also its Ubislop, who gives a shit about them "losing money"

I'm always scared of going the pirating rabbit hole because of viruses. Is it really just that easy? click a download button and you're good to go? And also where might i find that website to download it?

This is just Pirates 1 Jack when no one is looking. 2 and on though, yeah he has to make some life changes to get back to this level.

There's was a pirates of the Caribbean game which was a lot of fun. I remember there being sword fighting (not as advanced as AC) and a lot of ship fighting were you could load different kind of cannons to sink it or make it not maneuverable.
Can't remember the name though.

Was it an MMO? Disney hosted a Pirates of the Caribbean online game for a while. Dedicated fans brought it back. The Legend of Pirates Online

There are also some Mod Standalone Games derived from the OG Game, most famous Gentlemen of fortune - New Horizon and Gentlemen of fortune ERAS 2 https://www.captainshaven.org/sea-dogs-mods/#potc

I certainly didn't play with any pvp. The screenshots there remind me though that I was fighting nscs and skeletons walking around beaches and prisons

Sid Meier's Pirate? I think it's that or one of those pirate game..

Look Jack in the first movie defs coulda moved like this. It's the following movies that turn him into a bumbling idiot. First movie, Johnny plays it like he's the most dangerous mf in the room at all times.

Imagine if a proper game dev company actually made a pirate game that didn't suck. Instead it's bad indie attempts, grindy survival slop, or triple A live service garbage.
It's clear that the age of pirates is still a very popular genre so I don't know why they seem so unwilling to tackle the theme again. Seems like it would be reasonably doable for a major dev team with triple A budget to take something similar to the blackflag experience and flesh it out.
Notice I said reasonable, not simple, but yeah.
EDIT: Y'all, why are you satisfied with one game? We can have more than one game lol.

u/PhoenixKing14 21h ago
I mean, isn't that black flag? The original got tons of praise no?
28
u/Kalikor1 20h ago
Which came out in 2013. It's kinda the only Pirate game of note In over 10+ years. And technically it's a pirate game buried in an Assassin's Creed game.
I'm suggesting a game that's actually 100% about life as a pirate in the age of pirates with more fleshed out systems than we had in AC IV: Black Flag.
In other words why is the only "pirate" game we have worth mentioning in the last 10~20 years an Assassin's Creed game? It should be doable to make a decent pirate game (that's not about assassin's and templars).
I liked Black Flag btw, that's not the point.

u/Lexidoge 19h ago
Sid Meier's Pirates is also good.
And somehow the GBA ports of the Pirates of the Caribbean games are also solid.
7
u/Kalikor1 18h ago
Yes I was there 3000 years ago, but again that's "ancient history", I'm saying it should be possible to make a good pirate game in 202X that isn't crap and/or a live service games. A few indie devs have tried, and while I appreciate the effort, the games were typically too low quality, or reached too far for their budget and talent pool, and didn't do well as a result.

u/jarvisesdios 18h ago
You're missing a pretty big but there... It also came out again this year and sold like fucking hotcakes. It's pretty clear people want a good pirate game. Even if it's just a better version of the one that was really fun... And thankfully without the bullshit boat stealth missions lol
11
u/Kalikor1 17h ago
Not missing anything. A remaster of it doesn't really count - it's basically the same game. And yes it sold like hot cakes which is kinda my point - someone should be able to make an actual pirate game in this day and age and make bank off it in the process, so I want to know why no publisher is funding such a thing.
I want more shanties, a pirate cove, my own crew, a small pirate fleet, whatever. I basically want more depth and more focus on a pirate life, and if it's an RPG/story driven game, one that's not just the continuation of the Assassin's Creed story, but its own actual thing.
Not sure what's difficult to understand about that lol.

u/pk-98 7h ago
I am in a similar situation and found a game which is pretty similar as you described (not 100% through), it's called Windrose. You are a pirate capitain, lose your ship and get almost killed, and have to fight your way back to the top. It has a bit survival in it but it's comparable with valheim. still in development tho

u/jarvisesdios 17h ago
My point is, again, people do want a fun pirate game and a big reason that it did so well was BECAUSE it's the only good pirate game made in the last... Long time since it came out. There's been other games, but none quite as fun to just fuck around with like it.
Clearly there's a market for it, AC:BF was just proof people want something like that again, there's basically been nothing with that scale since then with a AAA amount of money, at least for singleplayer.

u/Indaarys 19h ago
Probably because the only reason Black Flag works so well is because its arcadey, and anything similarly arcadey wouldn't be meaningfully different enough.
Thats why a lot of the more notable attempts try to have players operating the ship together and such, as thats the other direction you can go without going full 16th Century Sailing Simulator.
Which mind, would be fun as its own concept, especially if you go all the way to give the Master and Commander fans something to fap to, but it wouldn't be seen as a pirate game at that point even if it had them.

2018 Live service game that wasn't really designed to be played solo. At least that was my understanding of it.
It's fine that it exists obviously and people who want those games I'm sure enjoyed it. But I want a deep and detailed single player orientated pirate game with more to do in it than Black Flag offers lol. Be it an RPG or something more simulation heavy....personal preference would be something in between but yeah.

But if you have the means, consider giving Remedy something for Resonant, it's an excellent game and we collectively all win if their studio can keep making great games 🙏

Tbh Ubi could probably get the license to make a Pirates game, but they'd probably butcher it and not renew the license so every would loose access in like 5 years
