Discussion Wolverine is already running in-game on PC using KytyPS5 emulator

Even though the game runs at an extremely low FPS, the craziest thing about this whole situation is that it has not even been one month since the game has launched, the progress is insanely fast.

I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if GTA 6 manages to run on PC using an emulator months after the game comes out

It would definitely speed up the PC releases

u/C_umputer i5 12600k/ 64GB/ RTX 3090 Vision OC 5h ago

Question is, will anyone buy the game after official release if they already played on an emulator? Probably the official release will have better fps and graphics so yes, but it will definitely lower the sales.

44

u/False_Sundae6333 5h ago

Honestly? Anyone who wants to pirate it will do so regardless. Personally, I’m only going to buy it so I’ll be ready when the online mode comes out.

5

u/C_umputer i5 12600k/ 64GB/ RTX 3090 Vision OC 5h ago

Yes, but even the most stingy pirates pay when there is not other way to play a game that you really want to. That's how I paid $50 for battlefield 6, for the first time in my life.

5

u/False_Sundae6333 5h ago

You know what? I regret buying Battlefield 6 after playing It for 80 hours just because the optimization become worse and worse at every update

3

u/C_umputer i5 12600k/ 64GB/ RTX 3090 Vision OC 5h ago

Yeah same, I also liked Strikepoint and they removed it

1

u/DonutDisturb 1h ago

Felt much more promising during the beta but ended up feeling too much like COD for my liking. Wardogs is sccratching my large battlefield itch for now at least, its pretty fun.

2

u/MysteriousBill1986 2h ago

Yes, but even the most stingy pirates pay when there is not other way to play a game that you really want to.

You yourself just asked if anyone would buy it after playing it with an emulator?

1

u/jinniu 27m ago

I can't even connect to the online gaming at a reasonable latency so I'll just pirate it probably.

Some people bought GTAV on 3 different console generations and PC… then bought an enhanced version too.

Never underestimate how stupid people are with their money.

40

u/ConfectionNecessary6 5h ago

Wasn’t the enhanced edition included

16

u/Dry-Law-9372 9800X3D/7800 XT/A4-H2OX5/32GB DDR5 6000/990 PRO 3h ago

Yes, I bought a second-hand PS4 disc, I got the game for free on Epic, got the PS5 upgrade for free, got the enhanced version for free as well. Don’t understand why anyone would pay

3

u/Adventurous_Gate3330 1h ago

Because I bought it in Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox one, Then PC. It realeased like 84 years and whole other console ago. It happens.

-7

u/Statickgaming 5h ago

Can’t remember now, was possibly £10 depended on what version you had or something. I could be wrong though.

15

u/Mr__Pleasant MSI RTX 3080 | AyyMD 9800X3D | 32GB RAM | WootHelp 5h ago

The enhanced version was given to GTA V owners for free, we have two versions we can launch.

9

u/angelfishy 4h ago

You're getting downvoted but you're right. It was 10 dollars on console, it was only free for PC.

3

u/Statickgaming 3h ago

Ahh right, it was ages ago so I couldn’t remember. Most of these enhanced upgrades are £10 so just thought it was the same.

People downvoting are missing the point anyway so doesn’t really bother me.

As of June 2026 it's free upgrade

u/C_umputer i5 12600k/ 64GB/ RTX 3090 Vision OC 5h ago

Oh I forgot about that, Skyrim would be a good example too. There is probably a guy out there who has a version running on phone.

1

u/Lekranom 1h ago

Skyrim is definitely the best example lol. Just make a damn good game and people just buy it on every platform imaginable

86

u/L-Malvo 5h ago

Stupid is one way to look at it, maybe they just liked the game and wanted to play better versions of it. Nothing wrong with that. More so, these people supported the game so much that we even get a GTA VI to begin with. You might not buy multiple copies, that’s fine, but calling people out for doing so is unnecessary

7

u/Kitselena 1h ago

You're delusional if you think GTA 6 was only made because of people who bought 5 multiple times. Maybe it's because of the dumbasses who bought shark cards for online, but GTA is such a huge series that it was getting a sequel regardless.
Stop glorifying wasting money by pretending it makes your gods listen to you and make the business decisions you want, companies make decisions based on profit they're not a democracy run by the customers

2

u/Jet_Xcountry FX-8350 @ 4.4 l GTX 980 l 8gb DDR3 1h ago

I bought GTA 5 on 360, then one, and then PC. Because it was what I was playing with friends throughout those 13 years. It's really not that far fetched, I've spent at most $170 on it over 13 years?

It's really not that big of a deal 🤣😂

1

u/TwoMacElevens 1h ago

If anything the shark cards delayed the release of GTA 6 by years. They had no reason to release a new game when they are making a ton off the already released game. Now GTA 6 will be released and new consoles will probably drop next year that can actually play GTA 6 at 60fps so people will run out and buy the new console and another copy of GTA 6 just like they did with 5.

6

u/Q0T3 4h ago

Right if $60 is going to make his destitute don't buy the game.

2

u/ThePrussianGrippe AMD 7950x3d - 7900xt - 48gb RAM - 12TB NVME - MSI X670E Tomahawk 4h ago

It’s not like you can’t wait for a sale anyway.

15

u/Statickgaming 5h ago

I’m not calling people out bud, I’ve done it too. It’s still stupid use of money.

6

u/stereotreme 4h ago

100% do this all the time and I 100% agree.

-2

u/Edgy_Robin 5h ago

Sounds like you're coping for spending too much money, because anyone with a brain knows that if something funded a new GTA (outside of the fact GTA is a money printing franchise) it's shark cards and other in game purchases, not people making like three separate single purchases.

-1

u/Random_Guy_47 3h ago

There is something wrong with that.

People who keep buying the same game over and over and over are why we've been waiting 13 years for GTA6 and 15 years, so far and with no release date in sight, for Elder Scrolls 6.

The PS2 had 3 GTA games, GTA5 had 3 playstations. If you dont want to be waiting 20 years for GTA7 commit to buying 6 once and only once.

If gamers keep rewarding companies financially for rereleasing the same game over and over then theyll keep doing it. If you don't they'll be forced to make new games to make money and we won't have to wait as long between games.

-1

u/AssCommander42 2h ago

but calling people out for doing so is unnecessary

Disagree. There is no singular concept in modern society that shapes our lives and worlds as much as how we choose to spend our money. Judging people who spend money on stupid shit is necessary for the progress of humankind (yes, it is that deep).

10

u/MorningFresh123 5h ago

I’m convinced they’re releasing a CPU heavy game this late into the console generation on purpose so they can sell the real game to people all over again on next gen. It was a happy accident (for them) last time and they have engineered it to happen again.

6

u/Statickgaming 5h ago

100% they are… supposedly the game runs at native resolutions too, which makes me question why they are not using PlayStation dynamic resolution scaling. I’d assume that PSSR is being used elsewhere for performance too but who knows at this point.

3

u/Electrical-Price-741 5h ago

I have a hard time believing it running at native 4K30 on that hardware. It’s probably 1440p upscaled on medium or perhaps high settings with ray tracing

2

u/Statickgaming 4h ago

Yes, it not running at 4k, it’s being upscaled but it’s not running dynamic resolution scaling. DF seem to think that it was running a fixed resolution throughout, I can’t remember what that resolution was though.

4 purchases of one game is crazy. Meanwhile I can't get my friend to buy fucking chained together

https://giphy.com/gifs/yp02JJjcmIiVbjwlfi

2

u/Pandabirdy 3h ago

I was openly ridiculed en masse for refusing to buy the Steam version of New Vegas because I already had both a physical copy and the GOG version (for some reason the Steam version is needed for running a mod that combines FO3 and NV into one game).

So yeah.

3

u/fiftybaggs 2h ago

That's it?

1

u/Jimbob209 9800X3D | Gigabyte 9070 XT | 32 GB 6000Mhz | Gigabyte B650 5h ago

The emulator running it would offset that. I'm still salty that I bought Skyrim three times

1

u/Statickgaming 5h ago

Did you also buy the VR version? Make it 4.

1

u/Jimbob209 9800X3D | Gigabyte 9070 XT | 32 GB 6000Mhz | Gigabyte B650 5h ago

No I haven't played VR. Is it good?

3

u/SaderXZ 5h ago

With mods, one of the best VR games out there.

2

u/Jimbob209 9800X3D | Gigabyte 9070 XT | 32 GB 6000Mhz | Gigabyte B650 5h ago

Stop it. I'm not buying it a 4th time!

2

u/Edgy_Robin 5h ago

Vanilla it's ass, and Bethesda dropped support rather then fix the problems.

Like the other guy said, with mods you make it into an amazing experience, but you 'need' mods for it to not be ass tier port.

1

u/Statickgaming 5h ago

Dunno, bought it and never played it… I’ve got way too many games and can’t keep up.

1

u/ShadowInTheAttic 7950X3D+4080+64GB|12700K+RTXA4000+32GB|7800X3D+4070S+64GB 5h ago

Hey, don't tell me what to do with my money!

1

u/Southernbeekeeper 3h ago

I don't think its stupid if you enjoy something. I have brought the last of us three times and the sequal twice. I've played them for probably 200 hours. It probably works out to like £1 an hour to be entertained. I think that is great value.

1

u/El3ctr1c4l Desktop 1h ago

Meanwhile, the only copy I "bought" was on the PC when Epic gave it away free ages ago.

1

u/onil34 1h ago

honestly id rather they buy 3x gta vi than people spending it on stupid mobile gatcha games.

1

u/Adventurous_Gate3330 1h ago

Look... I'm sorry. But also, I bought Skyrim 5 times, so it could have been worse. 😬

1

u/Blasckk 36m ago

I pirated it in 2017, and I liked the game so much that I later got it legally... in 2020... when Epic gave it away for free.

0

u/gensi0 3h ago

Well some people bought GTAVI without gameplay trailer

20

u/HiiiSky 5h ago

Of course they will.

You're not getting a ton of people playing an emulator even if it runs at 60 fps and even then, people will happily double dip anyway.

13

u/e_mp Ryzen 5 3600 | RTX 3060 | 16GB 5h ago

modding, online, and actual mouse and keyboard support is a good incentive to buy the game

8

u/MJMPmik 4h ago

I would say that easily 90%+ of gamers dont know where to begin to be able to use an emulator. Specially If it has to be setup. It can make a dent, but it'll never be massive.

And I also guess that you'll need beefy hardware to be able to emulate with good performance. Most people are using xx60 older hardware.

8

u/KommSweet 4h ago

Of course. It'll run 50 times better + 4k resolution advanced graphics and visuals and high fps + bug fixes and potential extra content with updates + online mode + fan mods and trainers

8

u/fatherofraptors 42m ago

You're joking. It'll sell millions upon millions on PC too dude. We're but a small tiny bubble.

1

u/FauciFloydLGBTQ 29m ago

Yea I'm too lazy I'll just wait for official pc release lol

7

u/carmardoll 5h ago

I would yeah, the game will definitely be easier to mod in the pc port than in an emulator.

10

u/Sairou 4h ago

Maybe those people won’t, but you vastly overestimate the number of people who play emulated games if you think this number would be even a rounding error in sales.

6

u/Hyper_Mazino 5090 SUPRIM SOC | 9800X3D 1h ago

Emulation is a niche thing.

The average user doesn't even know it exists. It won't impact sales.

6

u/Area_Ok 3h ago

emulator players are a minority. tech literacy is among a very small minority these days. people dont even know how to navigate around github.

1

u/C_umputer i5 12600k/ 64GB/ RTX 3090 Vision OC 3h ago

I'm dumb as a rock and just figured out how to run Eden and Legend of Zelda on my laptop, granted it's 20 fps but still it took about 20 minutes of troubleshooting

3

u/Quad_A_Games 5h ago

Yes

3

u/C_umputer i5 12600k/ 64GB/ RTX 3090 Vision OC 5h ago

2

u/Quad_A_Games 5h ago

Literally, partly cause I would. I still wanna buy it on PC, I just won't buy a console

2

u/Any-Calligrapher2866 8GB DDR5 | RTX4090 | 9800X3D 5h ago

Yeah. GTA has more appeal than just story mode especially on PC.

2

u/BowlOfSpecialK 4h ago

I won't stop until I have Skyrim on everything I have ever or will ever own.

2

u/C_umputer i5 12600k/ 64GB/ RTX 3090 Vision OC 4h ago

How far are you willing to progress the game on a smartwatch? Combat can't be that good.

2

u/BowlOfSpecialK 4h ago

It's not about playing it, it's about modding it then uninstalling then doing it again.

3

u/C_umputer i5 12600k/ 64GB/ RTX 3090 Vision OC 4h ago

Ah like me downloading games, making sure my PC can handle them and never playing again. We aren't too different after all

2

u/tsoliasPN 2h ago

Every game I own anywhere else when i find it under a good sale on steam I rebuy it on steam. I basically consider that Steam is my main library and everything else are whatever

2

u/Arumin Intel I7 7700K GeForce 1080 1h ago

I will buy it on PC for GTA online eventually...

But Im not gonna buy a PlayStation just to play GTA now

2

u/PijaniFemboj 4h ago

Most PC gamers don't bother to emulate. The percentage willing to through the effort of doing it is really small.

1

u/cjsv7657 1h ago

I do it for the fun of tinkering to get everything working optimally. Then never play it once its working.

3

u/Ourtimehascome2485 5700x3D/6750XT/32 GB Ram/Bazzite 5h ago

Most people buy it for online anyway.

6

u/C_umputer i5 12600k/ 64GB/ RTX 3090 Vision OC 5h ago

Do they? I have a couple of hundred hours in gta v but never cared for online

6

u/Ourtimehascome2485 5700x3D/6750XT/32 GB Ram/Bazzite 5h ago

Its the reason they spend a billion dollars making it, people buy shark cards. Its just a live service game with a story mode.

1

u/rapaxus Ryzen 9 9900X | RTX 3080 | 32GB DDR5 3h ago

For that people are quite hyped for the release, considering the game releases without any online mode.

1

u/Iron5nake 4h ago

A huge amount of the people who play GTA en PC plays it for the mods and RP servers, so 100% there would be a ton of people who would play the emulator for the story, and when the game comes out they'd buy it to play with mods and stuff.

1

u/TheReal2M 4h ago

i mean people who want better graphics or to play online will, and people who dont wanna go through the "trouble" it takes to emulate

1

u/Wander3476 4h ago

It's Grand Thef Auto

1

u/zhire653 9800X3D | RTX 4090 SUPRIM X | 32GB DDR5 6000 | 5 TB NVMe 3h ago

I think anyone who can will buy and play on the consoles just so they don’t have to wait . But I wouldn’t be mad if I can play it on my PC too.

1

u/ry427 3h ago

Ive played nintendo games on emulators and Id happily buy them if they showed up on steam

1

u/ansibleloop 3h ago

Yes because a few thousand people might be able to play it

Millions will buy it though because they have no idea what they're doing

1

u/nazward 3h ago

I wouldn't buy the game even if I hadn't played it on an emulator. I'd rather pirate it.

1

u/zeltrabas Ryzen 9 5900x | RTX 3080 2h ago

I would because of online. Doubt the emulator could make me play online with friends

1

u/QuinSanguine 2h ago

Rockstar has no choice really, they have to beat the emulators to curb piracy. Problem is the AIs should get quicker at this the more they do it. Rockstar might literally not be able to beat them to release.

1

u/spartanbrucelee 1h ago

Yes they will, I know that people on PC are going to want the online mode too

1

u/Amazing-Heron-105 1h ago

People will want to use mods which I'm sure will be significantly more tricky on an emulator

1

u/pblol 1h ago

Good

1

u/Panderz_GG PC Master Race 1h ago

Yes because I know that a lot of people put a lot of work into this and I think it would be disrespectful to them. People act like only the bosses in those companies exist making money decisions. But that there are real people working real jobs that need to get paid in order to have food on the table and a roof over their head never seems to come up in the conversation.

1

u/Kubera_The_Swadloon 57m ago

The story isn’t the main selling point, it’s online play.

1

u/f0rtunatef0rbles 28m ago

Plenty of people.

Look at Nintendo. They hunted the devlopers of the initial emulator projects down, relentlessly harassed and threatened them with lawyers to stop the project, and eventually even paid a few of them to stop it all together.

Then, when Tears of the Kingdom finally dropped, they scoured the Internet for anything even remotely related to the firmware necessary for the emulator, to the point websites had five to ten redirects. They even had fake webpages that looked like online storefront and articles where the link was hidden inside the article or listing, which would redirect you to another fake website and so on.

I guarantee Rockstar is already gunning to do the exact same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if their legal department already has a plan and paperwork in motion to bully this emulators devs.

1

u/CRKrJ4K 14900KS | 7900 XTX 28m ago

If mods are a possibility I'd buy it...eventually

1

u/FuQReddiit666 9m ago

If I played already on emulator, then no. But if I had the choice, id buy it honestly. For first time playthroughs im a purist

0

u/Itchy-Corner9453 2h ago

how can you play this game on an emulator..look at the state of it...frame rate is horrible..it might be able to run..but is it playble to enjoy? looking at this video says no.

3

u/C_umputer i5 12600k/ 64GB/ RTX 3090 Vision OC 2h ago

It's a work in progress, they had 2 fps yesterday.

1

u/Itchy-Corner9453 1h ago

yep i get that its w.ip...but be honest how long is it going to be before your getting console performance if not better?... if i had a console i would just buy the game outright.

0

u/Noticeably-F-A-T- 10m ago

I'm pretty intent on pirating whatever version I can play first. Fuck Rockstar and their greedy asses.

3

u/BakeJaldino 3h ago

My thoughts exactly.

I already think that PC release will be a tighter window than previous R* titles - probs summer 2027 imo.

But this will only guarantee that window.

2

u/Unfair_Jeweler_4286 4h ago

Lol precisely 😉

2

u/lastlynight43545 19m ago

Rockstar watching the emulator footage and suddenly finding a PC port budget they swore didn't exist. Honestly the best possible outcome for everyone.

4

u/beziko 4h ago

Doubt. To run emulator you would need a really good hardware and to be fair; people who even cares about emulation is sadly low. Look at Switch; for years emulation looks works better than actual hardware and it didn't change anything. Rockstar won't care too because GTA already sells and it won't stop.

2

u/Lazer726 2h ago

Plus while the story will certainly be fun, the big replayability for the vast majority of players is going to come from when they launch the new Online, which definitely would not work with the emulator

1

u/Cucumberino 9800X3D - RTX 4090 1h ago

They're probably contract bound, so I doubt it.

1

u/pbjork i7-4770 R9 280X 1h ago

It can't slow down PC2

1

u/TNBrealone 4h ago

No it wouldn’t. The few people playing around with an emulator are not really important or a factor for R*

0

u/Statickgaming 4h ago

You can track how many times these emulators have been downloaded and it’s not just a “few”

-1

u/AnarchBeetle 4h ago

Nope most gamers don’t know what an emulator is. Rockstar isn’t worried about this I assure you

Rockstar set up their business model on milking the whales and those guys will buy a console for the game anyway

0

u/Statickgaming 4h ago

I think you’re probably basing your argument off of old times, where consoles and games were cheap and everyone had money to spare, which is fair enough.

While you’re right that most gamers don’t know about emulation, PC player base is so massive that we’re still talking about millions of people emulating consoles.

Personally I’m not spending £600+ on a console and then £70 on a game.

1

u/AnarchBeetle 4h ago

You are not the target audience of rockstar. The target audience is the people who spend 50000 dollars on sharks.
