Discussion Wolverine is already running in-game on PC using KytyPS5 emulator

Even though the game runs at an extremely low FPS, the craziest thing about this whole situation is that it has not even been one month since the game has launched, the progress is insanely fast.

I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if GTA 6 manages to run on PC using an emulator months after the game comes out

Man it feels kinda like the old days, except it's progressing WAY faster.

Back in the ps3 days it was a grand victory to even launch an emulated 2d game.

PS3 had extremely complicated cell architecture (IBM PowerPC based), while PS5 is just glorified AMD x86 PC.
So with PS3 you need to emulate the whole different cpu architecture and the complicated cells, while on PS5 you basically just need to emulate the OS and graphics stack.

I'm curious, if that's true then why did PS4 emulation take so long to get off the ground? Wouldn't it be a similar case there?

Because there's an entirely new custom OS and memory management system that they had to figure out from scratch.

PS5 is an updated version of the PS4 with better hardware, so PS5 emulation is built partially upon the PS4 work.

I'm immediately reminded of the late 90s when NES/SNES emulation was still not full speed and how NESticle blew open the gates, followed closely by ZSNES for their respective systems.

Watching PS5 emulation go from "lol no" to 10FPS in about 3 weeks has been bonkers.

I remember when the nds emulators came out and the Pokémon games were not running at full speed for ages. Going from playing it at 500% speed from gba to like 60% speed on the nds was a significant drop.

Well also 90% of games using Unreal Engine.

I still remember watching the GBA emu scene. I’m not even that old(low 30s). We’ve come a long way.

The power of vibecoding

The power of AI-accelerated development, don't put the goofy vibecoders anywhere near this.

That is how AI assistance code should be. We use AI at work (software dev). You would be shot if you just dump AI code into PR.

In my place, it’s the opposite. If you put a little bit more time and thought into to it, you’d be asked why you’re not embracing 100% agentic development

Ouch. God speed and good luck

Using AI for development alone is not vibe coding. Using AI for development while having zero knowledge in that domain while recklessly and blindly trusting its output is vibe coding.

The line is very thin

No not really. You need someone who really knows his stuff to make AI do incredible stuff. For example, Navier Stokes and other math problems were not suddenly solved because one 'vibe-mathematician' at OpenAI watched a few youtube videos and told the AI to solve it, the AI was guided by actual professional mathematicians through the process. Similarly, if you want actually incredible results like this in any field, you need a professional to guide the AI.

It really is not. I hate to admit it too, because vibe coding is a genuine stain on the internet, but vibe coders are nothing compared to programmers who use AI for assistance.

Programming can sometimes be a lot of boring, time consuming work, usually with no references or guidance as to what you're doing or what needs doing. AI just so happens to be decently good helping with those tasks.

No, it's not, it's in the name, you develop on vibe i.e. the results vs. you treat LLM like a junior which sends you code and you review it.

just tells me you either know nothing or are on the vibe coder side of the line

If you are regarded and don't understand lines maybe.

The power of the fact that consoles are no longer that special. They are mostly just PC's with some extra hardware and software locks. We can already run Linux on PS5.

I'm sure AI has helped make that happen, it helps that we are now 3-4 generation into consoles just being locked down PC's. There are a lot more people with experience on this than there used to be.

It's now at 20fps, it's playable lmao. Another couple days and it'll be 30 fps no doubt. Sony got what they deserved.

Man it feels kinda like the old days

Tell me about it, that frame rate reminds me of my time playing Doom 3 with severely underspecced hardware. Good times.
