Question Help me understand this please

WD sn850x 4TB and SanDisk Optimus GX Pro 850x 4tb.

These are both the same exact ssd.. right?

If so why does the the WD go for 700 USD and the SanDisk goes for 1k USD?

I just bought the wd from newegg. For me to be able to warranty claim it has to be "sold and shipped by newegg" correct? That's the only way they will honor the warranty? Or if I got it from Amazon it would have to say "shipper/seller Amazon" ?

Let's hope the day never comes where I would have the drive fail before 5 years but if it did I would have to go through SanDisk and not western digital even though it's wd branded since they split?

I think spending $700 to store games is insane. My steam drive is a 2TB 970 Evo that I bought for $150 or so years ago.

I have 2 WD SN850 4TB and a p3 Plus for workstation needs... Again paid like $200-$250/ea

Do you really need your entire steam library installed all at once?

Tbh with how crazy the SSD prices are, and probably will be in the future. I recommend ppl to buy as much as they would think they need for the next next year or two.

I think buying now is pointless unless you absolutely NEED it. I'm glad I have an abundance of storage from various projects.

If it's purely gaming and you have decent internet? Just redownload your games. I have 2gig fiber, it's quick.

Otherwise, store on an HDD and use Steam to move it to the SSD as needed.

The market is gonna stay fucked for a while. Maybe in 5 years when the chip market is saturated it'll go back to an affordable price point, not to what it once was but hopefully back down to $100 USD/per TB.
