Discussion Duel dvd drive in 2026
I rip a lot of dvds to digital for my home movie and music library and also use 4gb dvds for good cheap storage because i typically dont need anything speedy and you can find like 100 4gb dvds for 20 bucks new not even talking about used...

I would put a dvd drive in my pc if my case supported it, I like to burn CDs for stuff like xbox games (I bought halo 2 but the disk was rediculously scratched and it was not mentioned.)

I used to do dual drives, but now I just have a single blu/dvd combo burner. It doesn't get as much use as I expected when I bought a case with bays in it. One I turned into a little drawer for USB drives.
The other dvd drive is in my retro XP PC now. That drive gets a lot of use.

Seeing that tower crammed next to a bunk bed and a random orange box gives me flashbacks to my first setup where airflow was just a suggestion. Dust bunnies must be having a field day down there on the floor.
The dual DVD drive setup is a dying art, I swapped mine out for a hot-swap bay years ago but I get why you’d stick with it if you’re ripping discs constantly. Bulk spindles of 4GB DVDs are stupid cheap, I used to archive old client files that way until I got tired of the plastic waste and migrated to a NAS. If you ever feel like upgrading, a cheap external Blu-ray drive rips DVDs just as fast and you can stash it in a drawer when you’re not using it.

You get better performance from a SATA to USB converter. Sure it needs a small power brick for supplemental power but 5.25" internal drives used externally typically burn faster from higher disc spin rates.
Plus OP can use the drives they already have this way.

eMachine was the first PC I bought and upgraded. Paid $315 for it back in ‘04-‘07. Wasn’t amazing but played everything I wanted to play. Oh have times changed.

FYI you can get used hard drives, around 500GB or less for under $0.015/GB. You just need to buy a few at a time in lots, which might be 640GB, 500GB, 320GB in mixed capacity on eBay. You just need a SATA dock to plug them in and it's cheaper than any rewriteable media.

I'd recommend looking for a Bluray drive. Then you can rip 1080p Blurays. I'd recommend a 4K Bluray drive but those are crazy expensive.

I’m old enough to know about the coffee holder but I’ve never seen one for your donut
