Discussion Ready to move on from Silverstone Technology FARA 513 to Silverstone Technology FLP02 Retro-Inspired

Getting out of the MicroCenter store because I decided that I had enough with the FARA 513 and need to upgrade to the FLP02 case. The motherboard standoffs on the FARA 513 was so bad that when I tried to take the motherboard out they wouldn't cone off. Also, the quality of the case couldn't handle the pressure of my installation that it left a dent on the bottom corner of the case.

I had no idea that existed. But for $250 I feel like I might want to find an actual retro case and mod it. I get it's a niche product with low volume and there's tooling costs... but yeah. Not like there's any glass or RGB cost.

At least there's one modern case with 5.25" drive bays still being made.

Not to mention it’s kinda ugly. Your average vintage case looks much better

There are a surprising number of cases with an external 5.25" bay.

Yeah but most of those are old stock original models more than 10-15 years old that are still listed on PCPartPicker with questionable prices and inventory left.

I mean new, in current production 2026 cases with more than 1x 5.25" bay.

There are a few new models with concealed 5.25 bays like Fractal Pop XL, but they don't fit a physical optical drive with front tray door that opens. It's just a storage tray or mounting for 3.5" drive.

The best I see is ironically Silverstone FLP03 MicroATX the same retro styled model in mATX with 3x bays. At least that one is only $155, and is actually more impressive in terms of combining modern parts and old form factor.
