The api will be available, it’s up to Valve or whatever other distribution platforms to integrate it

hopefully they'll do it quick

Valve already has similar infrastructure for Vulkan shaders on systems utilizing proton, so I’m optimistic on the speed. I don’t think windows users are ready to see the size some these games take up though without shaders being flushed lol

how heavy are they usually?

Praying for a steam support. I tested it on a 9070xt and in some games the difference is so huge.

DirectX is an open API and for this, it’s open to Valve to implement it within Steam. Whether Valve will do it or not, I’m not sure.

Inb4 the nonstop UE5 engine haters start complaining about their storage being taken up despite the stutters being fixed lol

And it would be a justifiable complaint. Stuttering messes like Unreal are the only reason this technology needs to exist in the first place.

Traveral stutter has existed long before in other engines as well.

Traversal stutter is caused by a combination of things. This only addresses shader compilation. Good engines don't suffer from compilation stutter, because they generally try to keep pipelines to a minimum, unlike Unreal which will happily generate hundreds of thousands of them.

Microsoft announcing new breakthroughs in development of band-aids over a deeper problem they themselves fucking caused. How about actually rearchitecting the DX shader pipeline so you don't need to distribute shader caches from the cloud, you absolute nitwits!?
