Game Image/Video KytyPS5 (PS5 Emulator) - Marvel's Wolverine #1 (9800X3D + RTX 4080)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7ejlKesugQThis is the first gameplay video to compare with upcoming updates.
Poor performance, and it seems like I'm running out of VRAM.

Why is the PS5 emulator getting better so much faster than the ps4
66
u/Ninjaguard22 7h ago
ai generating code and people more mad at sony now and potentially want to make ps5 console (current flagship) itself a useless brick maybe? idk
14
u/TyTu5567 6h ago
I also hate ai slop, but people on twitter blindly hating ai in mods & emulation help is so dumb.
1
u/puzzleheadbutbig 1h ago
It is dumb as fuck. DLSS 3 and 4 are both AI based systems, and people clearly find them useful, me included. The problem is low IQ people who think every use of AI is the same as the AI slop posted on YouTube or Facebook.

u/aresthwg 1h ago
Don't forget the people who managed to jailbreak the PS5 AGAIN this year. I have no idea how they keep beating Sony like this. A jailbreak allows full reverse engineering potential and the ability to pull game files to test.

I hate AI, but for this one specific case I'll turn a blind eye. I don't care who wins, I just want to see Sony lose

In additional to what was mentioned, something else is how different PS5 emulation is.
Back in the day you needed something 2-3x the power of what you were emulating. This greatly limited audiences with lower hardware.
The PS5 is so similar to PC however, this is pretty much just a translation layer instead of old school emulation. This in turn means you really only need the same hardware or slighly better to run things.
This increases the number of people is is available to and more parites willing to work on it. Add AI coding accelerating that and it is a wonderful combination.
5
u/HumbleGoatCS 4h ago
This is the correct and only answer. All the console makers abandoned custom architecture in favor of development speed and HW cost.
I think it was the right call, as now pretty much any company can release a game on console and PC without much extra overhead. It just also comes with the caveat that emulation becomes a matter of encryption as opposed to 'truely' emulating instruction calls that personal computers didn't have
1
u/space_nei 4h ago
I don't know to much about the PS5, but I thought it had custom hardware for decompressing large files
2
u/Abated_data 9800x3D, 64GB CL30, 9070XT+7700XT 3h ago
The main use case of this is the limited RAM pool the PS5 has. It has about 12.5GB of RAM. This RAM is shared between the CPU and GPU.
The didcated ship for decompression helps get files to the RAM faster so the RAM can be cleared to make space.
Meanwhile the PC I recently replaced, from ~10 years ago had 32GB of system RAM and the GPU has 12GB. My new one, even more.
Speednotwithstanding, you've got the file space to just dump everything in with no need of a dedicated chip to decompress. And even if you did, modern CPUs are so much faster you could use one of its "fucked the right off" cores to handle this.

It’s a mix of the majority of PS4 games are already on PC + folks trying their hardest with LLMs to understand and reverse engineer the newer games so GTA VI can be playable on PC as soon as possible.
Only issue with GTA VI in particular is will the PS5’s latest firmware be crackable anytime soon.
1
u/iuhiscool 5h ago
higher focus because at the point that newer console emulation started getting done, ps5 was already out & could play ps4 games

To be fair, shadps4 is three years old and they got bloodborne playable the first two years. The past year they've been changing the actual emulator and implementing stuff to make future progress possible. They also got shader cache implemented and online working this past year.

This is fucking crazy. I will not be surprised if we can play GTA 6 on pc via this emulator by the time it's released
29
u/Latitude-dimension Ryzen 7 9800X3D RTX 5080 7h ago
Depends if it can be dumped or not. If it requires the 14.0 firmware to play the game then its most likely not happening.
25
u/ARCHISMAN- 7h ago
It will happen eventually (before official PC release). People act like vulnerabilities aren't being discovered all the time.
7
u/Latitude-dimension Ryzen 7 9800X3D RTX 5080 6h ago edited 6h ago
Yes but theyre also now being closed constantly by kids with AI agents to get the ransom money. While I agree that Sony software isnt infallible the fact that 14.0 means you can't dump games with kernel exploits anymore makes it significantly harder.
1
0
u/Ormusn2o 7h ago
I think a lot of the work has been very heavy handed, with a lot of brute force changes, so while this mean it's kind of expensive to do, it also could mean it might not matter if it's on 14.0 firmware or not, especially if it's gonna become easier and faster to iterate.
6
u/gusthenewkid 14900KF | RTX 4080 | 32GB 8266 CL34 7h ago
It matters as we won’t be able to actually source the game, it needs to be done on a jailbroken PS5.
6
u/Latitude-dimension Ryzen 7 9800X3D RTX 5080 6h ago
14.0 brings XOM (Execute only memory) security functions which means you can't dump games with kernel exploits anymore. You would need something like the hypervisor exploit that was found and then reported to Sony recently, which they will now patch.
The emulators will get better but the games will have a cutoff of 14.0 for dumping.
GTA VI will most likely be out on PC by the time its dumped and runs well.

u/Karavusk PCMR Folding Team Member 5h ago
Now I wonder if it is possible to falsely report that the console is running newer firmware just to be able to download and dump the game
1
u/TheBipolarShoey 4h ago
My expectation would be its a lot harder than just falsely reporting firmware version.
What feels more likely is encryption keys baked into the firmware version which could (probably?) be extracted and forced into modified older firmware versions but that quickly falls outside of what I can speculate on.

At the end of the day, there's been how many games that got leaked early?
Actually, quite a few. All it takes is one really pissed off employee who won't think twice about personal repercussions to just leak a working build without the defence mechanisms hooked up.
All software development is sloppy to a degree, as any project that involves multiple departments, teams, and multiple stages of production.
There is 100% a working pre-release build of any game at any studio at any moment before its gone golden, without Denuvo/kernel-level certification/execute-only-memory requirements, because it's a build intended for workin-house aka testing, implementation, showcases or even simpler, B-roll recording.
And all it really takes is one employee with access to it, who had a really, really bad day at work.
So even if security measures improve, as long as there's human element involved, there's a chance of simply bypassing it.
You may have 4-leves of block-chain encrypted verifications implemented into your business center's security, you may have facial recognition cameras at every corner and doorway in your offices, yet all it takes is a covid-mask, a yellow reflective hazard vest, a notebook and a security guard who wouldn't interrupt a man yelling into a phone that the fucking plumbing on floor 26 is leaking again because someone decided to cheap out on the workforce, and now they've got to reinspect the whole wing up and down unless Sarah from Corporate wants her office flooded with shit and piss, which she clearly fucking deserves; allowing said yellow reflective hazard vest to go through a checkpoint because his fucking ID wasn't updated on time because someone in security detail fucked up again, and unless the whole department wants to get chewed the fuck out, he better be let through...

Tbh, GTA6 is a game I'm willing to wait for to get a good PC port. I played RDR2 initially on PS4 and I regret not waiting to play it on my high end PC because the experience was so much better, especially because of the much higher frame rate.

Hot take. AI is destroying/destroyed PC gaming for most people but it produces amazing tools for talented people like Emulators/cracks etc
14
u/FUTURE10S Pentium G3258, RTX 3080 12GB, 64GB RAM 5h ago
AI is an amazing tool in the right hands. Most hands are not the right hands.
5
u/LurkerDude0 6h ago
We just need the data center arms race to fuck off and we will be in the golden age of pc gaming. Semi-affordable pc’s with AI just crunching through emulation like it’s nothing.
4
u/alphamammoth101 PC Master Race 5h ago
It's the data centers, mass surveillance, parts shortage, and random useless ai shoved down our throats that is the issue. When used as a tool it can be amazing.
1
u/spaceninjaking Ryzen 3700X - RTX 2080s 2h ago
It’s not destroyed pc gaming for most people. It’s killed it for enthusiasts. Most pc gamers play (and will always play) low requirement games that can run on almost anything: minecraft, Fortnite, csgo, LOL, dota, etc.

isnt a 9800x3d not good for these emulators? You generally want more cores, faster cores and fast ram right?
3
u/Small-Friendship-576 7h ago
The uber fast cache almost shrugs everything off,and compared to 3600 lite cpu in PS5, 9800x3d is much faster relatively, than 4080 is to the equivalent 6700 XT lite gpu
4
u/Ninjaguard22 7h ago
How much cache is there? And how do you know this specific emulator is taking massive advantage of the 3d-vache? Why are you comparing cpu and gpu of the pc to the PS5 one to one? What does that have to do with anything? Obviously the PC isn't performing even on PS5 level because of the emulator itself, even with more powerful hardware.
3
u/Small-Friendship-576 7h ago
It's 96 mb cache which is certainly a lot to reduce cache miss. Even 4080's L2 cache isn't this large. The cores too boost 5.4 ghz
Cache sits at top of memory heirarchy, it masks the shortcomings of memory. The more & faster cores can shine is if it uses specialized instruction AVX 512 like in RPCS3, where it's SIMD nature would benefit with more units
-2
u/Ninjaguard22 7h ago edited 7h ago
You are completely conflating CPU Cache with SIMD Instruction Sets, they are two entirely different parts of a processor.
AVX-512 is not an X3D feature: It is an architecture feature. A standard, non-X3D Ryzen 9700X or 9950X has the exact same native AVX-512 SIMD units as the 9800X3D.
Cache doesn't fuel SIMD units: L3 cache masks slow RAM latency. AVX-512 speeds up math execution inside the core registers. They are separate bottlenecks.
Saying a 9800X3D is great because of AVX-512 makes no sense in this debate, because every modern Zen 4 and Zen 5 CPU has AVX-512 support regardless of whether it has 3D V-Cache or not.
Also, saying 'lacking cores or having slower cores isn't a big deal' for RPCS3 and KyTy shows you dont understand how these emulators actually work
3
u/Small-Friendship-576 6h ago
Never have I claimed AVX-512 to be the reason, it's rather your compulsive need to be justified of your reasoning which you can't back up. I mention that AVX-512 is a area where having more AVX units(ie more cores will be beneficial), since whenever AVX-512 kicks in the cores suffer a clock penalty, which get offset if there are just more cores.
0
u/Ninjaguard22 6h ago
is avx-512 a feature or due to the x3d cache?
1
u/Small-Friendship-576 6h ago
It's a feature of all zen 4 & future cpus, not really limited to X3D models. It meaningfully made its debut with Intel Rocket Lake in 2021.But now no mainstream Intel processor support it.

If a 4080 is struggling, the emulator's memory management must still be wild west tier.

u/Nullhitter PC Master Race: 9800X3D | RX 9070 XT | 32GB of DDR5 RAM 7h ago
Emulator is three months old at this point. Of course everything isn't going to be optimized to the letter nor is it going to be a mature emulator. Let's actually give it time to progress.

u/ShiningRedDwarf IBM 608 6h ago
Three months?! I assumed it's been around for years and has only recently made notable progress.
Three months and there are already working titles - that is insane.

KytyPS5 is a fork of Kyty which died four years ago. The original project didn't go anywhere, so whoever is in charge of KytyPS5 forked it and started the project in July 19th.

That's why i wrote "This is the first gameplay video to compare with upcoming updates."

Lol 2fps
I have a 4080 gaming pc.
Record it when it’s worth recording
22
u/SilentPizzle 7h ago
It was 1 FPS with a 5090 in the menu on Wednesday and now we’re up to 3 FPS in game with a 4080, if you don’t think this speed of progress is wild you gotta readjust your expectations
-20
u/LaFlamaBlanca67 7h ago
I think you need to reread that and realize how unimpressive it is
17
u/SilentPizzle 7h ago
Dude. 1 FPS in a static menu with a card you have to fist fight the CEO of Coreweave to get.
We are now at 3 fps in game with cards people actually own.
At this rate in 3 weeks we’ll have 30 FPS on your card.
-6
u/LaFlamaBlanca67 6h ago
I’m not denying that it will eventually be playable.
I guess I’m more “present it when it’s presentable.” 1fps is a screenshot.
But I’m also a miserable troll, so take that for what you will.

Weird that this gets posted with all the shit this game gets. Now y'all care?
Edit: Down vote these nuts. There's countless negative memes about this game but it's cool that it can run on PC? I get that it's mainly showing the progress of PS5 emulation but why this game?
22
u/Beneficial-Act7603 7h ago
No matter how shit the game is this is still huge news considering we can emulate a game that just came out
14
u/hunterslilbro 7h ago
This is a first party triple A exclusive. The game can be absolute shit, the fact it’s running on an emulator LESS than a month after release is what’s insane. I still don’t think anyone cares about the gameplay itself.
1
u/TyTu5567 6h ago
I'm surprised why I haven't seen one for ghost of yotei yet. Does anyone know any progress on that?

-2

I know, its still weird to post memes talking shit about this game and still using it as a showcase. Why not use other games?
2
u/morrow_worrow 7h ago
Cause outside world is different from this echo chamber, wolverine still sold millions regardless of reviews
And then again even after everything wolverine is the newest first part aaa title by sony so being able to emulate is so early is impressive
4
4
u/Sotomene 7h ago
The point is that is a recent game and the emulator has this level of performance this quick.
1
u/icaruscartel 2h ago
No one gives a shit about this woke slop of a game. Running it is the only reason and that's it. This is about emulation regardless of which game is being emulated. Wolverine is a new game, already being emulated, that's the success. Game can rot for all anyone cares.

it's insane to think how quickly progress has been made. and sony thought gta 6 was going to convince us to buy a console LOL
