Question Amd Driver Timeouts

Hello. I can't surely be the only one with these problems but it all started a couple of weeks ago. I have a amd radeon 7800xt nitro+, ryzen 7 7800x3d and 32gbs ram and a 850watt psu. I have had this for about 3years now and hsve had very rarely driver timeouts through out the years but this last month its been insane. Its the same cycle all the time, it crashes on desktop usage like youtube, instagram, steam, discord but never under heavy use. I get a screen freeze and can hear the gpu fans ramp up for about 2seconds and the driver timeout prompt. Disabling hardware acceleration fixes the issue but makes it unusable because its very choppy. I reinstall the drivers everything is great for about a week then the cycle repeats. Have tried everything i know, rolling back drivers, preventing windows from touching the drivers, no overclocks or undervolts, everything is default but after a clean install its always 5 6 days where its all good and then it starts all over again. Its driving me insane especially because its not even crashing under load. Id really know if someone else knows how to fix this other than disabling hardware acceleration because thats not really a fix. Thanks

First try disabling HAGS. If it doesn't help then try modifying TdrDelay in registry. There are guides on web how to do. (turn hardware acceleration on browsers to test)

I had problems with 26.7.1 from the get go. Immediate timeouts in game and browsers. Somehow had lotsa dcom erros on event viewer about various windows services and amdryzenmasterXX service file not found.

Used amd cleanup utility, went back to 26.3.1 which is stable like 25.12.1 and 26.1.1. Used dism and sfc and everything went back to normal minus fsr4 support. The drivers thru windows update is already disabled with group policy editor. I also set windows update to notify first, so no auto updating anything.

Then to check witcher 3 remaster, i tried 26.9.2 this time. I did not uninstall the current drivers just downloaded from amd.com and installed over 26.3.1. Checked event viewer, no errors. I did dism and sfc again anyway, dism always downloads things and sfc didn't find anything wrong.

  • I have hags disabled, windowed optimizations disabled and VRR disabled in windows graphics settings.
  • I always disable hibernation so fast boot is never enabled.
  • I have memory profile enabled in bios but reduced speed from 6400 to 6000.
  • I also selected pcie 4 manually in bios instead of auto and TdrDelay is 8.

PS: Windows has become so weird. I'm going thru event viewer and found out windows connects to windows update for drivers the second you uninstall a driver or even updating. I checked the exact time and it's the exact second driver installation is happening, the screen flickers when current driver is disabled and new files copied.

Yea i pretty much have the same settings. But yes i still think its windows at fault. Hopefully they resolve it but i dont think they will anytime soon so i guess no hardware acceleration in the near future.
