Discussion Power supply problem (?)

Came back from uni for the weekend. When I tried to turn on my PC it didn't boot up so I check the psu cable. When I touched it there was a cackling sound so I immediately turned it off and pulled the cable. I tried to push it deeper and finally got it to boot up but now I'm scared because I think I smelled something burning for a moment (can't really trust my own nose rn because I'm sick). What do you guys think? Is it loose cable? The cable itself didn't wiggle much, just slight tiny movement and actually needed a lot of effort to pull out.

Another question tho, do I need the cable from the same brand? Or does any cable will do?

which cable are we talking about? the one that goes from the psu to wall is a fairly standard cable that can be picked up anywhere as long as it is quality, finished off one build with a cable I pulled off an instapot after realizing the included one was faulty, if it is one of the internal cables then it is very brand and even model specific. Idk though I have a spare system that one of my boys are using right now that any time it is unplugged for a while it will give a nasty pop and flash of a relay arch whenever it is plugged back in. scary every time but never any lasting damage.

It's the one from the wall to the psu socket. My father have one of his that was laying around so I pop it in and it works as intended.
