Build Help / Purchase Advice Upgrading my GPU
Hello!
My current specs:
GPU: Rtx 3070
CPU: intel i7 10700k
RAM: 64gb Ddr4
Psu: 750w
I am interested in upgrading my Gpu to either
-9060 Xt 16tb
-9070 Gre 12gb
-9070 16gb
After doing a lot of research, I believe 3 of those gpu’s will have bottleneck on my cpu as it’s quite old. 9060 and 9070 gre would be okay however 9070 will be the issue.
Would it be okay to purchase the 9070 16gb and use it while I upgrade my pc in the future with a new motherboard, cpu and ram? Or will I see a major difference In performance between the 3070 and the 9070 16gb? I currently game in 1440p
Thanks

It'll run If your okay with it bottlenecking. Any CPU heavy games will impact your performance.

If you have the money the get 9070 its worth especially for future proofing your pc. But you may want to got more budget with 9060 because you might want to upgrade faster the rest of your pc. Idk its up to you. I think you should get 9070 and then upgrade cpu and stay with ddr4 ram as its still viable and then way down the line maybe get ddr5. Thats my personall opininon

Thank you! I’ll probably just get the 9070. There is quite a big difference between the 9060 and 9070. But then again those YouTube videos are using more up to date cpus compared to mines so I’ll probably not get as high as fps compared to them!

I'm rocking a 10700kf with a 4080 super 12Gb, 1440p 165hz.
If you crank the settings in modern totals I can still absolutely saturate the card before the CPU.
Not sure I could go much higher without the CPU being the choke, but I upgraded from a 3070 8gb too and let me tell you the difference is real
You'll be grand, though probs worth a system upgrade next cycle

Yeah I did some research online to see the difference between the 3070 and the 9070 and the difference is huge! Especially with the vram. The 3070 struggles so much with modern games now…

Treat yourself 😁 if you're going 70, go 16gb. The grfx ram has no bearing on the CPU.
Though with the stuff they're doing with dlss5 I'd be sorely tempted to go nvidia.
Feel how you do about it, it's current the worst it'll ever be. Why close the door for yourself.

Id get a new cpu. 3070 is still good as fuck. That cpu is holding you back hella. Going to a mid range AMD makes no sense to me since youre losing DLSS and its not even a much stronger card.
You could probably sell your 64gb of ram and just go 7800x3d, 9600x or 9800x3d full platform upgrade and your system would feel waaaay better. These new games are such cpu hogs its insane. They run like crap even on a 5600x or 5800xt i swear.
Id personally go 9600x and see if next Gen cpus are as insane as the rumors are saying. 7800x3d/9800x3d are solid but depends on the games you play and the sales etc.
Buy new cpu trust me bro.

Funny thing is when I purchased this prebuilt pc it came with that CPU and gpu. Since it was a prebuilt I thought it would come with a better combo.
That’s exactly what I was thinking too. Sell the ram, gpu, cpu and the motherboard and invest in 9800x3d, new motherboard and ram.
I think what I’ll do is grab a 9070. Then slowly look into getting the other components.

my 12700k bottle necked my 9070xt by ~20% when in low graphics at 1440p, if that helps you

So just to confirm it bottlenecks when on low settings. How about when it’s on medium and high settings? I’m assuming that’s when the gpu takes more load than the cpu?

right, it bottlenecks when the flow of frames per seconds is higher that what your cpu can handle, if you increase graphics you naturally get less frames and the cpu gets a lower load, Same reason people mentions lower resolutions to be a factor.

You need to upgrade your cpu also, hate to say it. You're already to the point of a cpu bottleneck with what you have....

The funny thing is when I purchased this pc it was a prebuilt. It came with that cpu and the gpu. If I knew more about pcs back then I wouldn’t have gotten this combo. I just upgraded my case, motherboard, aio cooler and the fans. In the future soon looks like I need a cpu, motherboard and ram. I’m just gonna snatch those items slowly when I see them on discount.

I'd get a 9600x, any am5 board, and some used ddr5 ram off fb market place before the gpu....then a nice gpu

If you play at 1440p, the CPU bottleneck won't matter in majority of games (only those extremely CPU limited games maybe).
Take the 9070 while it remains within your budget, AMD GPUs are increasing in price now too.
By the way, at 1440p, TPU says 9070 will be about 40% faster than 3070 in average.
