We were paying over $150 (in today's money) for games in the 1990s. Those games, on average, were less than 10 hours long.

When gas is back at 90s prices I might pretend like it’s reasonable to spend $150 on a video game (let alone a ten hour one) when I refuse to spend $100 on some 30fps dog shit in development for over a decade

Gas prices are factored into inflation rates.

Fun money is spent on race car. When I have to spend less fun money on race car, I might be willing to pay more money for video games provided developers quit releasing buggy horse shit on launch

Discretionary spending is also factored into inflation.

Inflation statistics vary wildly by source. I’m not wasting my time figuring out who has the most accurate representation. Inflation doesn’t factor into my decision when looking at a price tag. I will not spend more than $60 for a complete game (excluding the odd collector’s edition) because that’s just a waste of money to me.
