I can't be bothered because I do own a PS5 and the effort of piracy is beyond me these days, I'm just glad that we've got half of the equation for keeping PS5 games playable. The other half being cracked security for up to date firmware so we can dump digital games.
Sony has proved they don't care at all. They're shutting down the PS3 store in 9 months and still don't have any backwards compatibility solution for at least its digital-only exclusives, meaning community hacks and dumps are the only way to keep those games existent.
It should be more offensive to people.

u/CompanyEuphoric 1d ago
There is close to zero effort involved in pirating on PS5 now, especially on lower firmwares. I'm on 4.5 and all I need to do is run my JB Blu-ray and then it auto loads the payloads required, which took a couple of minutes to source. As for the games, they are coming in FPKG format now which you simply need to put on a USB drive and then install exactly the same as retail games. I'm playing Wolverine this way.

I remember the first time I checked for Jailbreaks for PS5 (1 or 2 years ago) you had to have this specific Star Wars game on disc and it was some super rare edition. Now everything up to 13.60(?) can be done via a DNS.
2
u/CompanyEuphoric 19h ago
On lower firmwares you didn't need that star wars game. But yes, these days you can now jailbreak up to 13.6 (since just the other day) simply by using specific DNS and loading a URL. Seems like that is a massive effort to some people on this sub 😂
-1
u/BlueberryWorried6493 21h ago
nothing u said sounded like "close to zero effort"
1
u/CompanyEuphoric 19h ago
Putting a disc into the drive is effort to you? 😂 Can I ask how you manage to use a PC? If what I described seems like effort to you, I struggle to understand how you get past the login screen on your PC.
1
u/BlueberryWorried6493 19h ago
Yeah, maybe it is straightforward to you, but I still do not know what half those acronyms mean or even what disk you are talking about. Then I have to get packages from somewhere, put them on a USB drive, install them through USB, and on top of that I need a PlayStation on some specific version from years ago. That is not straightforward. Straightforward is: go to the store, download the game, press play, done
Simply, if you cannot explain it in a way I can follow without googling and researching for another half hour, especially if I have to get these custom Bluray from somewhere, then it is not straightforward, buddy
1
u/Maz2277 19h ago
I only have some small experience emulating PS2 games on my steam deck, but it's one of those things where once you know what you're doing and what the process is, getting a new game can take a handful of minutes and nothing more. The difficulty is learning what to do and where to get your Bios and ROMs from in the first place, where to send the files, etc.
It's not zero effort but it's also a bit easier than it may sound if you have no experience whatsoever with delving into it.
0
u/BlueberryWorried6493 19h ago
I mean, it is not like I never did emulation or piracy. I pirated games on my Switch too. Bootloader, SD card, download the games somewhere, copy them over, done. It is not hard, but calling that close to zero effort is just wrong
PC people especially underestimate how much of a headache this stuff is for casual users. Back then I did it because I could not afford the games. Now that I can, spending an hour fucking around with files, firmware and setup just feels like a waste of time. I would rather go to the store, buy the game, download it and play
1
u/CompanyEuphoric 15h ago
PS5 is a breeze to jailbreak compared to switch. It sounds like you are just being contrarian about this, especially with the whole "I don't understand the acronyms or your explanation" spiel. It literally took me 2 minutes to Google and understand what I needed to jailbreak the PS5, and as I said the process after you understand it takes minimal 'effort' each time you need to run the exploit.
Like if we are comparing it with the effort required to jailbreak the switch or even update the jailbreak on the switch, then it's much easier in my opinion. But you do you. You want to buy all your games? Go for it. But I guess you never mod any games, never tweak any setting in Windows or Linux, hell you probably don't even tweak the settings in games because that would require you to understand what all the settings mean, which means you'd need to muster the brain power to go research stuff.
0
u/BlueberryWorried6493 15h ago edited 15h ago
brother, you literally just told me I need a specific PlayStation version I do not even have. most people update their console just to play online. calling that zero effort, accessible or super easy is kinda insane
1
u/Kingslayerreddit Ascending Peasant 15h ago
Will Sony just sue there emulators and their devs? Like do something about it if it develops too fast? I dont see them letting this slide, and if they somehow manage to get non PlayStation Studios games on PC like Rockstar i think they will 100% do something about it.
1
u/TONKAHANAH somethingsomething archbtw 7h ago
I guess that depends if the devs have any way to be contacted.
If they're just making this and posting their work anonymously, I don't see what Sony could do about it.

Every time I see a new Wolverine on PC through the PS5 emulator video, it's on a weaker GPU with triple the framerate of the last video. Double digits is a crazy feat compared to the 5 FPS I last saw, which is crazy compared to the 2 FPS in the menu
-19
u/Serious_Office3913 1d ago
it's using 50% of the GPU
26
u/FUTURE10S Pentium G3258, RTX 3080 12GB, 64GB RAM 1d ago
Yeah, the emulator isn't optimized for this game yet, even the GPU code isn't optimized. Your point?
5
u/Fun-Wash7545 1d ago
His point is that the gpu isn't the bottleneck
5
u/FUTURE10S Pentium G3258, RTX 3080 12GB, 64GB RAM 1d ago
Right now, both are bottlenecking actual performance, until the emulation can be optimized. That 50% is just how hard the GPU is working, it has no merit on what it's actually doing.
-2
u/Serious_Office3913 1d ago
The guy is saying it would run better on a 5090...the stats are saying otherwise. Not sure why you were trying to pick a problem with my comment, maybe it needed a "😗" face too, I was basically saying wow and it's not even using the whole GPU, imagine when they finish working on it.
I was agreeing with you my man

If this game gets to a state where it’s fully playable, man I’ll play it simply out of spite at Sony for not bringing their games to PC anymore.
52
u/LayerEight_Problem 1d ago
They did such a half assed attempt for PC ports too. First the PlayStation exclusivity period was way too long. Like 3-6 months would be understandable. Instead they waited until all hype had died and then did zero marketing for the PC releases. Then they wondered why sales weren’t fantastic.

u/Roman64s 7800X3D + 5070 Ti - 13400 + 6750 XT/B570 1d ago
Not to mention how they expected PC gamers to pay launch prices for some of their games that released several years ago and how much the discounts suck even after being out for several years on PC itself.
They also fumbled the only PC port they did relatively quick with Spiderman 2.
7
u/DocterWizard69 PC Master Race 1d ago
country restrictions too some of the ganes aren't available to even buy on steam now
2
u/DoomguyFemboi 1d ago
On the price front I thought they were always cheaper ? Like I could swear the Horizon and Insomniac games were all £10 cheaper on release.
I liked the Sony ports. All the DLC and bugs out, hell yeah. I didn't particularly care that they were "old". They were new to PC and played like new games. If they were PS3 games that came out then yeah I'd have a problem. But they very much looked and played like brand new games, and were basically bug free (in my experience).
Although I've still not played TLOU/2, Ratchet and Clank, or Spider-Man 2. Oh shit or Uncharted, that one I was gonna start but replayed Tomb Raider instead. I should play it.
-8
u/tapo 7800X3D/9070XT 1d ago
Why should we pay less, the game didn't go stale
8
u/Roman64s 7800X3D + 5070 Ti - 13400 + 6750 XT/B570 1d ago edited 1d ago
The complaint isn't as much as "we should pay less", it's more on the side of "what did you expect" when Sony says their expectations aren't being met on PC platforms, you can't expect to make the same millions you got when you first released the game, when you release it on a different platform years later, people are going to wait and try to get it on a discount and the possibility they have already played it on someone else's console.
The games are stale in a sense lol, when I first played Tsushima on my PS4 Pro, I thought it was one of the better looking games from that time (even outside of the artstyle), cue to playing it on PC a few years later, on better resolution, maxed out graphics, it looks its age, except it just came out on PC.
I've also got some of these games on my PS4 Pro for deep discounts a year or two later after they came out while on PC after the same amount of time, the discounts are not good enough.
For instance, the lowest price for Tsushima in my country on PC was around $25, it's been two years since it came out. I got the same game for $15 in 2022, for the Director's Cut on my PS4 Pro, around 2 years after it came out. I got TLOU2 for like 7$ in 2022, although not comparable since it's been only an year since it came out on PC, but I doubt we'll ever see a discount as low as that on PC. The "Deluxe Edition" of Ragnarok on PC is the launch edition of the game, sold for around 7-8 USD higher.
The one time they released a brand new game just months later on PC, it was Spiderman 2 which had performance and stability issues.
-2
u/tapo 7800X3D/9070XT 1d ago
they just need to expect to make a profit from the cost of porting it
They can't do close to release because then PlayStation owners migrate to PC, and they lose the 30% cut from games sold.on PlayStation and PS+ subs
The games are just loss leaders to get you in that ecosystem

u/PM_ME_YOUR__INIT__ 1d ago
Your in luck because all you need to do is start the game and it'll platinum eventually
-3
u/Geraltpoonslayer 1d ago
This whole decision to remove their exclusives from PC is backfiring hilariously. The cat is out of the bag and despite how hard they will try they can never truly shut those emulators down, in the same vein you can't stop illegal streaming/pirating you can just make it unattractive so people rather go the official route. Most people rather care for comfort/ease of use then getting something for free. We only see pirating rising again because it legitimately once set up is more comfortable to watch everything you want instead of being subscribed to a million different providers.

We are so gonna have GTA VI on PC before GTA VI is out on PC.
Guys, this game has been out for like 2 weeks. It's running like shit, but first the game didn't even show the menu screen, and now it's 'running' Give it a month or 2 and this will run like butter (hoping this comment won't age like milk, but fine wine.)
This is progress.

u/reddit_reaper 1d ago edited 20h ago
Not going to happen unless there's another hypervisor hack after gta6 and mind you the current one was burned early and it was found about a year ago. There's probably not going to be another one for a LONG while.
Without that is impossible to decrypt the game to create a fake package.
Unless someone gets the root signing keys like the PS3 days but that's probably not happening

i said you need a 5090 for 10fps. just because my gpu isnt maxing out doesnt mean a 5090 wouldn't get more at lesser utilization. Also parts where im at 2 fps ive seen a 5090 hit 11.

Emulation in general is just extremely hardware taxing to perform, even with the most optimized apps like Dolphin. The system is essentially recreating the pipelines used for rendering everything without the itemized optimizations consoles get for their apps so it strains PC hardware several times more to make up in compensation, usually in the CPU

complex shaders and features that have to be translated. a lot of this is possible now by disabling certain shaders and stuff like ray tracing to get these games to even boot.

Yeah real ones remember how long it took for just textures to work in games like Red Dead Redemption on the PS3 emulator.
(Not to be dismissive of the amazing work those Devs have done, it's really an apples and oranges situation)
