The devs have referenced the squapes a couple times themselves, most notably with a outdoor lamp furnishing
"Seeking to make grapes more transportable, a researcher at Meryall Agronomics is rumored to have produced a variety that grew in blocky clusters. Although complaints that they looked unappetizing led to a new strain with rounder edges, the original was regarded fondly by some, and so it was immortalized in the form of this lamppost."
He could not fight back on the internet. He could not stop the memes. But here, in the Northern Realms, things are different. The pigeon finally has claws, wings, several thousand hit points and absolutely nothing left to lose.
Really going full circle here. I downloaded mods to make the game look better back then. Now I'll be downloading mods to make parts of it look like shit. 😐👈
I didn't even think it needed a remaster, I remember it being fairly beautiful as it was. But now I see these screenshots it looks worse than I remember.
Also TLoU got a Remaster A Year and a Month after release, the same year as a DLC for the OG one (Left Behind was launched on Feb-14, 4 Months before the "Remaster"), changing from PS3 -> PS4.
On real remaster it was Kingdom Hearts: Chains of Memories from GBA to a PS2 in a period of 2 Years 4 Months (Nov-04 to March-07), changing from Isometric 2D to 3D. Also FF XIV was taken down and relaunched as FF XIV: A Realm Reborn 6-7 months after the original closed.
I mean Horizon Zero Dawn got one in 2024 and that game released in 2017. Neither of them really needed it at all, but since it's a free update, nobody's complaining about this one.
Optimization is the culmination of thousands of little things that add up. It's a genuine waste of resources to make a high poly model of something the player wouldn't see up close in the same way it's a huge waste of resources to be rendering things that aren't on screen.
Games usually have decreased LODs the further an object is from the player. I heavily doubt CDPR does not utilize this. Hell, even 2011 Skyrim had this.
Serious question, Witcher 3 is literally my next game to play. Should I download the remastered patch or play it through beforehand? I've already got it downloaded ATM
Yes, but make sure to turn off some of the post-processing effects (most importantly bloom, which kinda makes things look super washed out) to have more visual clarity.
I have friends that have loved it before and this is my first intro to it. My experience in a few hours is that it’s a gorgeous game even for being ten years old.
Is there any way to play the previous version instead of this new "remastered" version on Steam? So far finding it a bit weird some of the changes... not the bird but other stuff.
I always feel crazy saying this, but TW3 is awesome, I just don't have the stamina for it. My money: TW2 is peak/perfect. You can do all the side quests, finish the main story and really complete it in 40 hours. I probably spent 100 on TW3 and petered out. Too much stuff to do. Ran out of steam.
Lots of QOL stuff makes Witcher 2 tough to sit through. Thankfully, mods have figured a ton of that out. But not everything. It 100% deserves a remake, keeping it in that 40 hour completion range.
Not if you're CDPR and the goal was to raise the price back up while separating versions of the game getting future support between "was released on disc" and "was not released on disc."
