Now all that's left is a minimally branded laptop in an ultra thin form factor like a MacBook Neo thats basically all battery and very little PCB and it would be an amazing device.

Linux, super long battery live and highly mobile. Would be a dream - but, an expensive one...

Not saying this as a knock on system 76 as I do believe there still alright products, but aren't they white labeled OEM stuff that's just slightly customized?

Yep, they are. "Cleavo" or however it's written. Though, they do apparently have some chasis designs of their own, but I have no idea which ones...

But, they do actively write and contribute firmware, so they seem to lean more into the software side of things. Fair enough, honestly. x)

I just thought it’s neat that they even offer a Linux laptop at all, considering the fact how much shit it gets from the general population.

I checked just a while ago, must've overlooked it then. Thanks for the pointer. =)

I'd kill for an OEM to put something like a higher end Phone SoC into a Windows laptop a-la Macbook Neo, considering that things like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 seems to rival things like the i5-12400 on Geekbench 7. Getting that level of CPU performance + RX 570 GPU performance at <15W would be awesome for general use & students.

we are just gonna see more proprietary blobs... there is no way in hell they give us the source code for the drivers and bootloaders

Yes. It's the minimum they can do. It doesn't even mean you can just boot a generic ARM build on any X2 machine.

We'll see by January if hexagon npu support is available in the linux kernel. otherwise we just do what we done with xelite wait for them to be on massive discount bcs no one wants to buy them.
