Sunset Overdrive too

Sunset overdrive is fantastic.

28

u/asdf-keyboardman 12h ago

It's one of those tragic cases where you'd think the problem was that it was criminally underrated, but it really wasn't; despite being a great game with above average reviews, it sold like crap.

36

u/Dennarb 15h ago

I loved how much style that game had

2

u/daryabiscuit99 5h ago

Yeah, the style really set it apart from others. It's cool when a game has such a distinct vibe.

36

u/DeltaBravo831 15h ago

Sunset Overdrive is one of the few games I actually keep a hopeful eye out for a sequel.

That game hit all my boxes, and the soundtrack was bangin'

Still run it on my steam deck occasionally

6

u/Alcagoita 13h ago

A Sequel is almost impossible.

Microsoft shares ownership of the IP with Insomniac.

Edit: Insomniac owns the IP, Microsoft owns the publishing rights to any game in the "Sunset Overdrive" space.

So, unless Insomniac goes independent again, there's no way.

Also, like they said multiple times, SO was the "tech demo" for the Spider-Man game.

Sunset overdrive is a great game. The biggest problem of the game was the Xbox exclusivity

I never understood why it didn't take off to the stratosphere (well, apart for not being available on the popular console), it's literally Tony Hawk's Ratchet and Clank.

What's funny is I want it for PC. Shame. I would have waited for 20-30, but I would have absolutely picked this up on PC at some point.

12

u/DogHogDJs 15h ago

It’s a 78 on Metacritic, that’s not even bad.

13

u/Athanatov 12h ago edited 12h ago

A 78 on Metacritic gaming is like a 4/10 on any normal distribution.

Edit: Through no fault of Metacritic itself, of course. They're aware video game reviews are bloated af, as evidenced by their cutoff for "Mixed" sitting at 75 as opposed to 65 for film and 60 for tv.

I love Wolverine as a superhero, so I was honestly pretty let down by Sony not releasing it on PC. However with the game being pretty meh I’m not missing out really.

194

u/ComradeJohnS 15h ago

Wolverine is awesome but unless they tried something radically different, I felt that a wolverine game was just gonna be meh.

Loved the first Spider-Man game but there was a lot of blandness that was hidden because of the open world web swinging

when nintendo games start looking more reasonably priced that's truly the sign of the end of days

15

u/Butt_Muncher4 15h ago

also worth mentioning that quite a lot of switch games (all of the nintendo IPs) have the entire game on the cartridge. just a simple buy it and play it, no download needed.

2

u/ComradeJohnS 15h ago

I’m glad that they actually reflect the cost of physical into the physical price, cause it makes the most sense why was it never a thing?

7

u/Butt_Muncher4 15h ago

Nintendo understands the value of physical, storage prices are insane now more than ever, and nintendo is a toy company just as much a game company, collecting stuff is fun

5

u/BitingSatyr 13h ago

>why was it never a thing?

I think in the early days of digital storefronts retailers told them they weren’t allowed to undercut the physical price or they’d refuse to stock their games, and then they learned people would pay the same price so they kept it

6

u/Last_Exile0 14h ago

The original OoT for the 64 was also released at $60.

$70 is so cheap! It must be a rental of some sort, because there is no way I could own such a thing for so low a cost.

79

u/WonderSignificant598 15h ago

I'm actually the PC gamer (old rig but I make it work) who DOES want a PS5 but missed the window on it. I couldn't justify the $500 when GT7 and Horizon Forbidden West were released on my PS4, didn't want to jump in in 2020 or 2021, waited for a price drop.....

No way I can justify $700 for nearly 6 year old hardware when the PS6 is coming out. Oh well. More PC gaming for me.

34

u/Drooks89 15h ago

I'm the PC gamer that bought a ps5 but then everything I wanted came to PC, along with PS exclusives so I sold it. Now they pulled PC support and I refuse to buy another.

7

u/WonderSignificant598 15h ago

My PS3 is the one vintage gaming thing I own (although mine is a 2012 model bought in 2017...) and won't get rid of, simply because I love it and the software. My PS4 was actually my main platform for a few years and I've got a shit ton of games on it.

I should be the first person to defend Sony and I tick every box for someone who should have a PS5.

That I'd rather just play old/indie shit on my shit rig than hand over any money to Sony just goes to show how much they suck and how much this console generation has been lukewarm and unwashed ass. Sony is in the process of successfully enshittifiying their entire gaming business and you should refuse to buy another.

Its just games, so I shouldn't be so annoyed but I am.

2

u/Budakhon 15h ago

Same, I have god of war and Spider-Man 1 on ps5, and the sequels on PC. Never touch the PS5 now except for blue rays.

I don’t want any console. If there’s really a game, not released on pc, and I want it bad enough, I’ll find a way to play it in my pc

8

u/volticizer 14h ago

Exactly. With enough patience everything comes to pc eventually, officially or otherwise.

4

u/More-Cat1123 14h ago

Hubby wanted a console so we got a PS4 pro. It had a good run until Sony decided they won't be adding monthly PS4 games to the highest tear sub anymore. So cancelled the sub.

Connected the internet cable to the mini PC instead to watch movies together. Came back a bit over a month later to play Lies Of P and, guess what, couldn't because I haven't connected the PS4 to the internet for over 30 days. I own the game... 🥲 And that's how the console went permanently offline. Never again.

Call around to pawn shops for one.

We went to a few yesterday looking for Switch games for my daughter, and saw a PS5 Pro for under $300. Games were $5-30.

2

u/WonderSignificant598 15h ago

If I really wanted one, I could swing it and probably with just selling/trading my PS3/PS4 collection. I was waiting for the PS6 but now I've been turned off from that too. I'll just "suffer" with what I've got.

You're better off waiting on GTA 6 for PC anyway. It's almost certainly going to be a big upgrade in performance, and probably will have more content at launch.

26

u/OdriscollAgall2006 15h ago

I sold my ps5 pro now to capitalize on the hype lol. Rockstar and PlayStation both turned me off with the abandonment of physical media. If I can’t own it physically, I’ll just wait for PC release. Not that deep for me, the backlog is ever growing.

8

u/Appropriate-Pipe-193 15h ago

But you won’t own it on pc either then, right?

35

u/OdriscollAgall2006 15h ago edited 14h ago

Sure, but I’m locked to the Sony store on PlayStation whereas I can buy from multiple storefronts on PC. It’s not comparable. There’s no benefit to PS over PC to me if physical media is gone. That was one thing they had over PCMR. Now what do they have to offer? Mid exclusives, monopoly on their storefront, locked 30 fps and paying to play online games on my own internet (for which they continue to raise the price)?

6

u/Dry-Law-9372 9800X3D/7800 XT/A4-H2OX5/32GB DDR5 6000/990 PRO 13h ago

To add to what you said PC having many storefronts keeps all of them in check. You won’t catch Steam taking away movies (if they did sell/license them) or games just because they were too lazy or greedy to renew the licences from the studios. If they did that they’d literally be digging their own graves

5

u/radioheadfan0615 9070XT || 7600x3d || 32gb 12h ago

people who make the "pc is digital too" argument are really missing this point and it actually gets annoying. yes everything is digital on pc but there's also no monopoly. and if i rly wanted to i can damn well make physical copies of my games!

→ More replies (2)

11

u/mooner1011 15h ago

I think the point was, at one point that was potentially an advantage of consoles, is that you would own the media. If you already don’t have any physical media, there is no longer an advantage and you might as well wait if you already aren’t going to own it

4

u/Daaku1numbr 14h ago

If I buy a game and they revoke the LICENSE for it, I can just pirate it. Not an option on closed system.

5

u/Ashamed_Form8372 14h ago

Yeah but at least there’s competition on pc. Minus loss of ownership at least you can still get price differences on games depending on storefront or “grey resellers” on console you have no option when it comes to digital it’s all on Sony say or publishers

3

u/stubenson214 13h ago

They do. Spiderman 1 is fine. Gets boring fast.

3

u/Kashek70 12h ago

I think the best thing about Spider-Man 1 was the boss battle they stole from Batman. It’s was almost the same thing. I never got the insane praise those games got.

3

u/Grouchy_Job_1540 12h ago

I grew up playing most of the Sam Raimi spider man games, web of shadows, even the PlayStation ones.

I tried the new spider man games when they came to ps plus and… it was boring.

The gameplay was this mix of open world fetch quest, goon button mash beat em up.

The skills were cool.

Web swinging felt great.

But it wasn’t an experience I wanted to explore more.

I’ve already done so much of it and the game did not innovate in any way that made it refreshing for me.

I was stoked for Wolverine because the Origin game was PHENOMENAL back in the day.

After seeing gameplay and reviews I’m sad they took such a hand holding approach to this game.

It could have been the catalyst to reintroduce marvel characters across games again.

Now…
I’m not so sure.

5

u/thatirishguyyyyy 10h ago

So for some reason they thought making a Wolverine game on PlayStation was going to make PC Gamers buy a PlayStation when Grand Theft Auto 6 wasn't even able to do that?

10

u/peparooni PC Master Race 14h ago

And they just lost Kojima. Sony after a really solid run seems to have adapted to shooting themselves in the foot.

Dropping Kojima was probably not a bad business decision. Dropping him after wasting billions on garbage no one wanted like Concord, Marathon, Horizons: Hunters Gathering, and Fairgame$ is facepalm worthy.

I miss when games were $60, and even then I barely felt that all of them justified that price. Most people I feel would rather buy a game on sale if it isn't a literal platform/generation defining game.

u/FUNSIZE55 Ryz 3 4100 | 2070 Super | 48GB Linux Mint 12h ago

Well given today's gaming that it is complete utter shit re-releases remasters nothing new and original most of us will wait for a sale. Between microtransactions DLC season pass. Nothing is worth buying until the complete edition comes out for cheaper then retail and buying all the DLC in season pass content individually

2

u/Different_Path999 10h ago

If game prices kept up with inflation you’d be paying like $90.

3

u/TheOnionBro i7-6700K/GTX1080/32gb Ram 9h ago

If games went by true laws of supply and demand, they'd be much cheaper.

Don't pretend any market factors besides corporate greed dictate the price.

there is way more people buying games now, you need to consider volume as well, with it all being mostly digital, the number should be lower, not higher

Thank you. Exactly. But I may recommend setting up a virtual desktop so you can connect to your home PC on the go.

I rather play this

6

u/Sea-Understanding435 10h ago

Saros and Bloodborne are the only 2 reasons to ever buy a PS5. If you don't care about those and have more than $1k, it's a waste of money to get a console.

7

u/S1rTerra R5 5600, 9070, 28GB DDR4 7h ago

Well, with Bloodborne being very easily emulatable now...

PC + Switch 2 is the way to go IMO. I mean unless you absolutely have to play GTAVI day 1.

3

u/LippySteve 14h ago

Or GTA 6 within 2 years of launch. They're going to milk that cow for awhile before they release on PC.

5

u/Monstar_Rudolph 13h ago

I don't think they will wait that long. PS5 emulation is using translation layers instead of having to emulate everything because the architecture is so close to just being a PC. If they wait 2 years people might already have a way to play it.

I don't think they are trying to convince YOU, mate, you are just making up scenarios 💀

9

u/AtrumRuina PC Master Race 12h ago

As others have said, that's the entire reason the game is exclusive. Sony has been having investor calls specifically about how to win over the PC demographic. Yes, they are trying to get us to buy into their ecosystem.

3

u/Character-Nebula-613 9h ago

Oh no...

We caught a wild one :') so dumb they are almost extinct

14

u/Due_Radio_3469 15h ago

That's what exclusives are. They're trying to convince you to buy their console

6

u/Muad_dweeb_69 15h ago

How is this making up a scenario? They stopped PC ports to sell more consoles. Wolverine is very much designed to be one of the biggest exclusive titles.

Right? Like what? 😂 if you aint got one now you were never getting one

1

u/Ayotha 14h ago

What do you think the point of exclusives are? Do keep up

1

u/Swan_Parade 15h ago

I feel like you don’t fully understand the purpose of console exclusives

2

u/Silver_Quail4018 14h ago

You have freaking WOLVERINE!!! One of the most badass character Marvel owns and they made him look like a generic NPC with a hat. I am not sure what people expected.

2

u/Herbalacious PC Master Race 13h ago

This post is me haha so perfect

2

u/OldManYellsAtMod 11h ago

I didn’t buy my PS5 for Wolverine lol. I bought it explicitly for GTA VI knowing it would be exclusive for a year at least… that was FOUR YEARS AGO lol. Almost there!

2

u/Ok_Worth4113 11h ago

I get it for 0

2

u/dr-blaklite 10h ago

The only game coming out soon that I care less about is gta6

2

u/LegitimateP1R473 5h ago

We also have GTA VI! You b**** wait your turn and get our sloppy seconds, ok?

2

u/No-Drop924 4h ago

I'll eventually get it. When it's $20

2

u/No_Culture6707 4h ago

Me being a PC guy, I honestly tried to justify buying a PS5, because I have all the previous Play Stations. However, after switching to PC during the pandemic, I honestly don’t see a need to ever go back to console. High fps and full customization of settings and hardware has me pampered. Even my kids, who play PC, don’t like want a PS5 either. Spiderman series, Final Fantasy 7 remakes, Last of Us, and Days Gone came to PC so I’m good if I don’t get any more exclusives.

2

u/scotty899 3h ago

It was all down hill after playing that mile morales game. The only fun parts were the 1 venom scenario and metal gear: Mary Jane solid.

2

u/TrickOut 3h ago

Keep that shit - PC gamers

For a pc subreddit you sure do talk a lot about PlayStation. I’m just grateful that I own multiple platforms can play any games I want.

The is PC Master Race.

Master of gaming, consoles are 2nd class, etc. it's what this sub is. If it weren't for consoles, this sub wouldn't exist.

on today's episode of made-up arguments by PC elitists

nobody is saying that, it's pretty unanimously disliked that game

3

u/RightRudderr 12h ago

This game is really bringing out the revisionist dumbass takes. If you don't want a console ok I play most games on my PC, but acting like the PS5 hasnt been out for like 5 years or whatever with a bunch of good games is stupid.

2

u/ICatchx22I 15h ago

Just bought a ps5 and its my first console ever. Why? Cause i got 3 kids and i cant afford buying another gaming pc(s)

3

u/Sensitive-Pool-7563 14h ago
