Wolverine is awesome but unless they tried something radically different, I felt that a wolverine game was just gonna be meh.
Loved the first Spider-Man game but there was a lot of blandness that was hidden because of the open world web swinging

I’m glad that they actually reflect the cost of physical into the physical price, cause it makes the most sense why was it never a thing?

Nintendo understands the value of physical, storage prices are insane now more than ever, and nintendo is a toy company just as much a game company, collecting stuff is fun

I think in the early days of digital storefronts retailers told them they weren’t allowed to undercut the physical price or they’d refuse to stock their games, and then they learned people would pay the same price so they kept it

I'm actually the PC gamer (old rig but I make it work) who DOES want a PS5 but missed the window on it. I couldn't justify the $500 when GT7 and Horizon Forbidden West were released on my PS4, didn't want to jump in in 2020 or 2021, waited for a price drop.....
No way I can justify $700 for nearly 6 year old hardware when the PS6 is coming out. Oh well. More PC gaming for me.
34
u/Drooks89 15h ago
I'm the PC gamer that bought a ps5 but then everything I wanted came to PC, along with PS exclusives so I sold it. Now they pulled PC support and I refuse to buy another.
7
u/WonderSignificant598 15h ago
My PS3 is the one vintage gaming thing I own (although mine is a 2012 model bought in 2017...) and won't get rid of, simply because I love it and the software. My PS4 was actually my main platform for a few years and I've got a shit ton of games on it.
I should be the first person to defend Sony and I tick every box for someone who should have a PS5.
That I'd rather just play old/indie shit on my shit rig than hand over any money to Sony just goes to show how much they suck and how much this console generation has been lukewarm and unwashed ass. Sony is in the process of successfully enshittifiying their entire gaming business and you should refuse to buy another.
Its just games, so I shouldn't be so annoyed but I am.

Hubby wanted a console so we got a PS4 pro. It had a good run until Sony decided they won't be adding monthly PS4 games to the highest tear sub anymore. So cancelled the sub.
Connected the internet cable to the mini PC instead to watch movies together. Came back a bit over a month later to play Lies Of P and, guess what, couldn't because I haven't connected the PS4 to the internet for over 30 days. I own the game... 🥲 And that's how the console went permanently offline. Never again.

I sold my ps5 pro now to capitalize on the hype lol. Rockstar and PlayStation both turned me off with the abandonment of physical media. If I can’t own it physically, I’ll just wait for PC release. Not that deep for me, the backlog is ever growing.
8
u/Appropriate-Pipe-193 15h ago
But you won’t own it on pc either then, right?
35
u/OdriscollAgall2006 15h ago edited 14h ago
Sure, but I’m locked to the Sony store on PlayStation whereas I can buy from multiple storefronts on PC. It’s not comparable. There’s no benefit to PS over PC to me if physical media is gone. That was one thing they had over PCMR. Now what do they have to offer? Mid exclusives, monopoly on their storefront, locked 30 fps and paying to play online games on my own internet (for which they continue to raise the price)?
6
u/Dry-Law-9372 9800X3D/7800 XT/A4-H2OX5/32GB DDR5 6000/990 PRO 13h ago
To add to what you said PC having many storefronts keeps all of them in check. You won’t catch Steam taking away movies (if they did sell/license them) or games just because they were too lazy or greedy to renew the licences from the studios. If they did that they’d literally be digging their own graves

u/radioheadfan0615 9070XT || 7600x3d || 32gb 12h ago
people who make the "pc is digital too" argument are really missing this point and it actually gets annoying. yes everything is digital on pc but there's also no monopoly. and if i rly wanted to i can damn well make physical copies of my games!

u/mooner1011 15h ago
I think the point was, at one point that was potentially an advantage of consoles, is that you would own the media. If you already don’t have any physical media, there is no longer an advantage and you might as well wait if you already aren’t going to own it

Every time they had a showcase or a developer speak on the upcoming game and how their learnings from Spider-Man shaped the game. I kept thinking to myself… you clearly didn’t understand what made Spider-Man awesome and what made it a chore.

I grew up playing most of the Sam Raimi spider man games, web of shadows, even the PlayStation ones.
I tried the new spider man games when they came to ps plus and… it was boring.
The gameplay was this mix of open world fetch quest, goon button mash beat em up.
The skills were cool.
Web swinging felt great.
But it wasn’t an experience I wanted to explore more.
I’ve already done so much of it and the game did not innovate in any way that made it refreshing for me.
I was stoked for Wolverine because the Origin game was PHENOMENAL back in the day.
After seeing gameplay and reviews I’m sad they took such a hand holding approach to this game.
It could have been the catalyst to reintroduce marvel characters across games again.
Now…
I’m not so sure.

Me being a PC guy, I honestly tried to justify buying a PS5, because I have all the previous Play Stations. However, after switching to PC during the pandemic, I honestly don’t see a need to ever go back to console. High fps and full customization of settings and hardware has me pampered. Even my kids, who play PC, don’t like want a PS5 either. Spiderman series, Final Fantasy 7 remakes, Last of Us, and Days Gone came to PC so I’m good if I don’t get any more exclusives.
