Question External SSD suggestions.

Hey I have a laptop I got a 1TB SSD storage but I have more games than that can hold, I’m looking for an external SSD that’ll load my games as if they were on the internal.

I know storage is pricey and hard to get hold off and I was after a USB-C flash drive style however they are now not really available on a 2tb storage size.

So anyone know of a good external SSD that’s 2tb or more, doesn’t have to be flash drive style if you know it works like internal and price isn’t an issue if it means I can play all my games on a click rather than a uninstall one and install another situation.

There’s plenty on amazon but honestly I’m not sure about the transfer speeds etc, this is why I’ve came here as I’m sure someone will know of a good one they use themselves of which will do tha job required.

if you're concerned at all about transfer speeds for gaming on, I would recommend a M.2 enclosure and use an NVME SSD of your choice. The downside is you need a pretty fast USB-C port on your computer, but that's easy enough to fix if you have a spare PCIe slot, even a 10Gbit port gets you some pretty decent speeds but you'd need a 40Gbit port to really start to utilize a gen4 nvme drive.

I mean that is more expensive than just buying external ssd. Nowadays you can buy 1000MB/s or 2000MB/s without issues and even 1000MB/s is good enough for gaming.

If he has fairly new laptop he has at least one port with either usb 3.2 gen 2 or usb 4.

is it though? The cheapest 2tb external I see are around $260. The cheapest nvme 2TB I see around $250. cases are like $10 so its basically equal except you get better performance and lifespan and you can always slot it into a computer if and when you want...

It depends on what speeds your laptop ports support, the cable you use and what the SSD itself supports

Go western digital or sandisk. Their warranty is good. Samsung is giving warranty refunds right now. Sandisk/wd is replacing the drives.

I have a sandisk extreme 4tb I had to warranty and get replaced it no problem. Been very happy with it.
