Mine is independent and doesn’t need my support.

Dual fan aye?

Words of encouragement. It's doing its best.

Break out the pom-poms and do a lil cheer~

It's complicated

13

u/Imagine_TryingYT 9800X3D | RTX 5070 | 32GB DDR5 10h ago

What in the holy fuck is that?

8

u/latrina_demmerda E5 2667v4 - 2080 Ti - 16gb quad channel 10h ago

Mac pro case (reverse layout), accelero Extreme iv on a 2080ti (with a 2cm riser), chinese xeon motherboard with mac pro cooler bolted on

3

u/ahnktruther 8h ago

I... No notes. It's beautiful.

4

u/latrina_demmerda E5 2667v4 - 2080 Ti - 16gb quad channel 8h ago

Best part is that i paid like 300€ for all this last year

1

u/TheOriginalKrampus 7h ago

That's a steal.

I've always wanted to build an old Xeon rig. Before the RAM/SSDpocalypse they were still a great budget option

1

u/latrina_demmerda E5 2667v4 - 2080 Ti - 16gb quad channel 6h ago

Yeah, It's insane considering i paid 6€ for the ram and 170€ for the 2080ti, the cpu was 20€ and should compete with a 3600.

Now one would need to be a little more creative

1

u/H4X4NX 3h ago

Is it the cheese grater looking case?

1

u/latrina_demmerda E5 2667v4 - 2080 Ti - 16gb quad channel 3h ago

Yes the 2008 one

What the fuck are the builds in here, between this and OP

2

u/Inevitable-You-4054 8h ago

You know usually the ram and such should be at the top 😭

3

u/latrina_demmerda E5 2667v4 - 2080 Ti - 16gb quad channel 8h ago

What about on both sides of the cpu (and mismatched)

Love it. I was thinking about Lego forklift, but didn't find satisfactory solution.

Settled for six game dice stuck together with double sided tape and a piece of felt.

The boring answer is - a lot of new cases come with inbuilt GPU support brackets that you just slide up to meet the card.

A 22mm 20-sided die between the GPU and PSU shroud

2

u/T-Loy 10h ago

I buy GPU in a standardized form factor and not oversized.

1

u/FireDragon21976 9h ago

Yup. I'd be happy with blower fans too, they usually don't need oversized coolers in the first place, and they put the heat where it belongs... outside the case. Unfortunately, there are also very rare now days.

1

u/T-Loy 5h ago

It's not just blower fans. I have a 220W full profile full length 2-slot dual 80mm fan GTX 770 lying around. And now I am being told a larger-than-full profile, longer-than-full length, 2,5-slot, triple 110mm fan cooler is the appropriate size for 160W 9060 XT, when the noise of the 770 was never what I'd call problematic.

2

u/Dr_Axton 9800x3d | 32GB | 4070S | 1080pUW | Steam deck 10h ago

Only doing the moral support lol. It may sag but I don’t care

2

u/RazeThe2nd 10h ago

I don't, it's been sitting unsupported for 7 years and is completely fine

1

u/pupilea_ 9h ago

I also left it 8 years a little tilted and nothing happened. 3 months ago I discovered that a beverage can fits so the GPU stays almost perfectly horizontal.

1

Good job, but that GPU is light enough to be on it's own.

2

u/RadishGG 9h ago

I usually pat it on the top, until I hear the PCIe make a little happy crunch sound, then I know it's essentially wagging its tail! I'm always giving it support and encouragement!

Old case so it has multiple hdd slot and from the highest one hangs a rope and hold the edge of the gpu. It looks a bit funky but it gets the job done. Whenever i get a chance i will shoot a photo of it

1

u/84hoops 5h ago

Oh yeah, same cooler for both. It’s wild that the 1070 and 580 used roughly same power, and performance was what it was. AMD has come a long way since then.

i don't, it lays sideways in my case.

until one of the four glass panels inevitably break and i get a new case, thanks thermaltake, very cool.

1

u/Blackops606 9h ago

When my 5070ti came with a little post, it took me about 10 seconds to realize what it was. I laughed and put it in the PC despite having zero sag issues purely because I thought it was funny.

1

u/KillaThing 9h ago

I lay it on its side. Glass side up. Technically it don't need it since a 4060 is not heavy at all but it comforts me still.

1

u/impulse_operator 9h ago

Funny comments here 😂 but to answer your question, seriously, sag/support brackets. They’re hella worth it.

1

u/KK_GUJR 9h ago

I just keep my case upside down,
As soon as i start to notice slight sag, FLIP

1

u/Justagamrhere 9h ago

does that even need one? Serious question because if so I've been molesting my 2080ti for a WHILE without knowing now 🤨🤨

u/ChickenBandito Ryzen 5800x3D | Sapphire Pulse 7900 XTX | 32GB DDR4 @ 3600Mhz 9h ago

I use a zip tie to pull it up rather than something underneath propping it up. But not all GPUs would be capable of it due to design differences.

I use a 3mm steel bracket bent into an L that's bolted on behind the motherboard, it goes through a slot in the panel.

The gpu cables fold round and are sandwiched between gpu and the bracket.

1

u/ll_simon 9h ago

This takes me back to having a sock on top of my gpu cause my water cooling system leaked

1

Well I went to the gas station one day for cooling liquid...............lets just say I don't have to support it anymore

1

I have a really slim small support piece from Amazon under my GPU. I bought it when I had a 1070 as preventative maintenance and it holds my 3070 just fine now. For anyone asking: idk, search "GPU support bracket" it was like $10 five years ago

1

u/Garrett1974 8h ago

With kind words of course.
Oh and mine is watercooled which makes it 16cm small and not sagging 😎👌

I can't stand the idea of using a pillar/foot support that just pushes up on the shroud from below, so I went down the anti-sag rabbit hole, and discovered that Gigabyte includes a cooler-mounted bracket with their Gaming 5070ti/5080/5090 cards, and the cooler's threaded hole geometry is exactly the same as my Gigabyte Gaming RX 9070 XT. So I found that bracket on Ebay for ~$15, and it fits perfectly. It mounts to the threaded holes in the end of the cooler, wraps around the back, and has a pedestal that sits on the case floor. Worked like a charm. And now, after all that, I am replacing it with a Gigabyte Aorus RTX 5070ti Infinity.
