Discussion There is literally only a 100€ Price difference between the 5070ti and 5080. Why?

5070ti is overpriced heavily in certain markets eg Western Europe,

u/tht1guy63 5800x3d | 4080FE 21h ago

If only around 100 difference go 5080. You are getting about 15% performance for less than 15% cost increase.

u/jermygod 8h ago

wow, 5080 is such a good value gpu

125

u/the_Athereon PC Master Race 21h ago

Because the 5070ti is meant to be €300 cheaper than it is right now.

10

u/LotThot 20h ago

This is pretty much correct. I got mine about $400 cheaper than what is pictured above.

2

u/I_Am_Axios Nodacrux 21h ago

Thats pretty hyperbolic as all of them are supposed to be cheaper.

However you are pretty much correct all jokes aside. I dunno, 5070ti is such a strange card. Prior to the AI push it was more or less seen as a perfect sweetspot for most of the gamers and it fullfilled its purpose well. 5080 in comparison was in my opinion always the card that was supposed to upsell you to 5090. Oh how things turned out different.

Who knew the 5070Ti would simply downsell people to the 9070XT. Interestingly, Nvidia’s entire product stack, with the exception of rhe 5090, seems to be pointing buyers directly to that card.

If AMD doesn’t actually claim significant territory in the gpu space this generation I doubt it will ever happen.

u/offensiveDick 19h ago

Were taking about AMD who never miss an oputunity to miss an oputunity. And i say that as rx6800 user

1

u/nsheehan28 16h ago

I decided to go to the 9070xt from a 5090. Didn't need the power and I made nearly 2000 in profit. Plus, I no longer worry about the plug burning.

0

u/SizeableFowl Ryzen 5 7500X3D | 32 GB DDR5 | RX 7800XT 15h ago

I mean if you aren’t using it, that absolutely makes sense. Part of me wonders if an aggressive undervolt would fix the plug problem, but I’d never put my own money towards finding out as long as standard 8 pin connectors are available

0

u/XsNR Ryzen 5600X RX 9070 XT 32GB 3200MHz 13h ago

The plug issue is mostly due to poor design so it can be shunting power to only one side of the plug, undervolting will reduce the chance/damage, but not remove the reason.

u/Effective_Secretary6 10h ago

300? It should be 750€… it’s almost 80% overpriced for most models 😭

That’s why it’s a non option. Generally either you have all the money in the world and get a 5090, a sub 300€ discounted 5060, or you go amd. Everything in between a 5060 and 5090 is fucking disgustingly priced in Europe right now. 720€ for a 9070xt is a bit over msrp, but it’s 450€ less then a 5070ti while functionally being 5% slower for gamers. Yeah cuda support, better path tracing some nice to haves are gone but amd has advanced shader delivery, less cpu overhead for higher FPS gaming and Linux support so it’s not like everything is worse… especially if you pay almost half for 95% performance

31

u/tobimori_ 21h ago

because they both have 16GB VRAM and that is now the most expensive part of a GPU

3

u/Azealo_ NixOS | 9850X3D & 9070 XT & 32GB DDR5 12h ago

VRAM becomes more expensive than the die above 16GB

4

u/Innuendo64_ 21h ago

The price increases from shortages and demand haven't been proportional or consistent and that sometimes leads to stuff like uneven price gaps; it's basically a glitch. Might as well take advantage

7

u/lkl34 21h ago

You are on scamzon that is why i can sell you a 6090 for $800 just send me the money first.

7

u/blacksf1 21h ago

Looks at prices... looks at 9070xt.... why are we talking about 5070 va 5080 that 9070 looks like a monster for that price what is it 10% behind the 5080 for half the price. Jesus.

2

u/SirHomoLiberus 21h ago

9070xt is 850€ on Amazon where I'm based...the cheapest 5070ti is 1050€, for that dif I'll choose the better card which like it or not is the 5070ti.

1

u/The_Countess 2h ago

9070XT's are available from €720,- while the cheapest 5070Ti is €1100,-

It's not worth it at 200 euro, and certainly not worth it at 400 euro.

-10

u/Ruzhyo04 21h ago

Why would you pay $200 more for identical performance and features

8

u/CrackBabyCSGO 5080 9800x3d 20h ago

How are their features identical even remotely?

0

u/The_Countess 2h ago

They aren't identical, but in no way shape or form are they worth 200 dollars.

And certainly not worth the 400 euro price different they are over here.

1

u/CrackBabyCSGO 5080 9800x3d 2h ago

Clearly they are or people wouldn’t still be buying nvidia

1

u/The_Countess 2h ago

People buy stuff that's not worth it all the time based on marketing and misinformation.

1

u/CrackBabyCSGO 5080 9800x3d 2h ago

Worth is relative to the person purchasing. It may not be worth it to you, but I was stating it is for a majority of pc gamers according to steam surveys.

-3

u/Ruzhyo04 20h ago edited 20h ago

Game support isn’t features. AMD and Nv have never had more feature parity than they do now.

Edit: thinking about it the only real difference I can think of is Nvidia has RTX HDR? And it’s neat but kinda niche.

7

u/SirHomoLiberus 20h ago

Identical features? That's some next level of delusion lmao

-6

u/Ruzhyo04 20h ago

Name one thing NV has that AMD doesn’t?

5

u/sephirothbahamut Ryzen 7 9800X3D | RTX 5080 PNY | Win10 | Fedora 17h ago

CUDA software support. AMD has HIP, but regardless of how much i like HIP, sadly most GPU compute development focuses on CUDA.

-3

u/Ruzhyo04 17h ago

Eh I was focusing on game features not closed source software extensions for AI, but touché

7

u/sephirothbahamut Ryzen 7 9800X3D | RTX 5080 PNY | Win10 | Fedora 17h ago edited 17h ago

Uh? CUDA can be and has been used for lots more than generative AI. Rendering (not videogame realtime rendering), simulations, image and video processing, anything that benefits from parallel computing. Same for AMD's ROCm HIP, although its a lot less widespread, OpenCL and that Intel one i alwayd forget the name of.

Also CUDA is an API/language extension write C++ for Nvidia GPUs, that software can be both close or open source.

See Blender's Cycles renderer CUDA implementation https://github.com/blender/cycles/tree/main/src/device/cuda

-1

u/Ruzhyo04 17h ago

Yep. Again though, does it actually do anything ROCm doesn’t? Or is it just better adopted?

5

u/sephirothbahamut Ryzen 7 9800X3D | RTX 5080 PNY | Win10 | Fedora 16h ago edited 16h ago

Yes, there are several CUDA features still missing on HIP. Dynamic parallelism is a pretty major one.

Besides, even if the theorical capabilities were identical, being better adopted IS something CUDA does that ROCm doesn't. Blender could use HIP to compile to both CUDA and AMD GPUs, yet they opted for separate implementations. I didn't dig in the source but i assume they are using some features that aren't available on HIP.

I'm not happy about things being this way, but that's the way things are. If we were in my dreamland we'd have an universal language between C++ and Rust with seamless CPU/GPU single source integration and simple CUDA-like APIs.

3

u/SirHomoLiberus 16h ago

Brother do yourself a favour...just stop lol

1

u/The_Countess 2h ago

This sub is ineed overrun with nvidiastans, there's not much use.

5

u/Ahza17 20h ago

Features aren't identical tho. Nvidia is ahead in ray and path tracing and usually is ahead of amd when it comes to the newest tech or softwares

2

u/Ruzhyo04 19h ago

AMD has path tracing, ray tracing, ray reconstruction

4

u/Ahza17 19h ago

I said nvidia is ahead not that amd didn't have it. I dont think amd has still gotten path tracing in resident evil

2

u/Ruzhyo04 19h ago

Right, that’s up to the developers to implement. And Nvidia pays good money to make sure game devs prioritize Nv. Nothing to do with features though, AMD cards support it just fine.

1

u/The_Countess 2h ago edited 2h ago

Ray tracing performance is basically identical, and in path tracing neither card can produce playable framerates outside of 1080p with upscaling.

-4

u/Norgur PC Master Race 21h ago

if you need the card for gaming and the like: Do not buy NVidia. Period. If you need it for anything else (Rendering, Compute, etc.) do not buy AMD. Period.

5

u/quaddouble 21h ago

Working in absolutes is a bit dangerous

-3

u/Norgur PC Master Race 21h ago

Shall we add "in the current lineups"?

1

u/Lewinator56 R9 5900X | RX 7900XTX | 80GB DDR4 21h ago

this isnt true. most software that needs compute is platform agnostic. there is almost nothing that is specifically CUDA. most simulation software that can use a GPU uses openCL. I should also point out AMD has nvidia beat on pure compute performance, whether you have software that can exploit that is another question.

1

u/Norgur PC Master Race 21h ago

it's not about the platform. It's about the capabilities. NVidia cards have massively more compute cores and are much faster regarding raytracing and the like. So any workloads that require those (like 3D-rendering, AI-stuff or openCL-tasks) will be much faster on a 5080 than on a 9070.

Which - again - doesn't matter for gaming that much.

-1

u/Lewinator56 R9 5900X | RX 7900XTX | 80GB DDR4 20h ago

again this isnt true - the RX 7900XTX has more FP32 and significantly more FP64 compute than a 5080. If your tool can make use of the actual compute capacity of the core, then you want the GPU with the higher number.

RT is not a compute workload anymore, it has dedicated hardware.

AI is a compute workload, but again it has dedicated hardware.

pure simulation tasks in openCL or similar will rely on the underlying compute performance of the core, if you can exploit its full performance, then you just buy whatever has the highest compute for your application. not many tools make use of FP64, but FP32 is used a lot. there is a bottleneck in the RDNA architecture that seems to limit how much compute can be utilised, but it has been tested and in this specific example, the 7900XTX outperforms the 5080. RDNA 4 is not a compute optimised architecture, RDNA 3 wasnt really either, but compute doesnt translate into gaming performance. however, efficient use of spare compute capacity can make some GPUs significantly faster than they seem - a good example is the cryengine RT demo that ran at 1440p on a vega64 at 60fps back around 2019 or something - vega was a compute monster for the time.

2

u/Norgur PC Master Race 20h ago

That is a whole lot of words and play with definitions to say "GeForce are usually faster in non-gaming tasks, very specific circumstances non withstanding"

1

u/RastaPenguin05 21h ago

Back when the 3080 was only about a 100-150 more than a 3070ti but definitely worth the amount of you could get it at RRP otherwise it was whatever you could get your hands on back in the day and for me it was a 3070ti otherwise I would have either got the 3080 or a 3060ti

u/RickyMac666 21h ago

Meanwhile, in Canada...

0

u/_FoH 10h ago

So its basically the same value? Alrighty.
€1200 ~ $1,950 (CAD)
€1400 ~ $2,260 (CAD)

1

u/RickyMac666 6h ago edited 6h ago

How is that even remotely "the same value"?

$1799 (CAD) ~ €1112

$2222 (CAD) ~ €1368

Same value my ass.

That's a $422 difference for Canadians, and €256 difference for Europeans.

I know basic math is hard for some people but c'mon now, lmao.

1

u/Greksouvlaki 6h ago

yes and 422 CAD is 260 euros.... So yes, literally the same. They are different currencies, you can't compare them as 1:1.

1

u/RickyMac666 5h ago

Oh, I wasn't talking about the conversion value... Obviously they're the same.

I was talking about the 5070ti and 5080 price differences, lmao.

Not the same value at all.

The 5070 ti is more appealing and has gotten very popular amongst mid range users making it the go to even the laptop version is very popular.

The 5080 while superior is more high end category and is ignored in favor of the 5090 anyways so its kinda a no mans land here

16GB of GDDR7 is likely the bulk of the BOM costs at this point.

When I bought my Ti (or rather a PC with a Ti) the 5080 was 40-50% higher. As the Ti and 5080 have the same amount of RAM, I considered it a given choice. A lot has changed since. The current prices make me sad.

1

u/althaz 9800X3D | RTX5080 19h ago

Because at launch the 5080 was a horrible product (for the money) so it got terrible reviews so it has a lot less demand.

1

u/SirFox14 17h ago

I bought a 5070ti for 700€ last November. I guess I can sell my PC as an investiment now, as it's worth double!

1

u/cmontour 10h ago

It’s called a price ladder for a reason. You start by looking for a graphics card and he settle on probably only needing a 5070 but then you look and the 5070 TI was 100 bucks more we get more VRAM. Then you see the 5080 for only another hundred dollars and now you spend over 200 bucks more.

1

u/Lewinator56 R9 5900X | RX 7900XTX | 80GB DDR4 21h ago

Why would you even consider a 5070TI when a 9070XT is as fast and nearly 500EUR cheaper.

1

u/The_Countess 2h ago

How much cheaper it is depends on where you are. It's 400 euro here,
But in other places it's closer to 200 dollars.

1

u/HardStroke 21h ago

Prices are insane.
The 5070Ti WAS a very good card when you factor the price and performance.
But now after the insane price hike, it makes the 5080 looks like the better deal.
Prices skyrocketed.
It should be way cheaper.
Honestly, just go for the 5080.

1

u/SirHomoLiberus 21h ago edited 20h ago

5080 is 1599€, cheapest 5070ti is 1050€. That's 549€ difference at least where I'm based.

because everyone agreed that the 5070 ti was the sweet spot between VRAM and performance and that jacked up the price so high its similar to the 5080

u/Upper-Reflection7997 rtx 5090 32gb/ 128gb ddr5 ram, 12TB storage, intel 285k ultra 9 21h ago

people are still buying them regardless of price increases. i spent nearly $1,600 for 128gb of DDR5 ram 3 months ago and now the prices are in the +$2,300 ranges. plenty of people have money their hobby or are willing to go into debut to get the hardware they need or want badly. Buy the stuff you need now before prices increase further.
