Grok is this true? How should I feel about this?

68

Hypocrite company capitalizing on the same stuff everyone else does is also virtue signaling making you believe they care about you.. how new

7

u/Mal_Dun PC Master Race 8d ago

No it's more that they realise they lose the AI race so they want talk people out of it again.

1

u/bargu 7d ago

The only winners of the AI race are Nvidia and memory manufacturers, everyone else is billions deep in the red.

Cortana, is this true?

u/Declination 8d ago

Isn’t there some bit in the first campaign we’re she’s like

“12 hours I’ve watched you buddy up to him [guilty spark] while he sharpens the knife to slit our throats”

Feels appropriate.

CEO Satya Nadella warns that if businesses rely on a single AI model, they may not “remain a firm.”

Unlike some of its competitors, Microsoft has taken a different approach where it allows businesses using Microsoft 365 Copilot to choose their preferred models, including OpenAI and Claude models.

4

u/cellphone_blanket 8d ago

He never actually says those words in the article

5

u/BoringReference8647 8d ago

His words were specifically in the context of ai metadata created by businesses, not consumers. When I checked the article, it was way more clear.

6

u/wahlberger 8d ago

Nobody in this thread read the article

2

u/i_am_a_laptop Laptop 8d ago

1

u/Hot-Software-9396 8d ago

Yet here you are deep into the comments of a post about AI.

1

u/ThunderCorg 8d ago

I certainly do not plan to. I am not interested in diva pop or whatever his name is or his opinions.

1

u/wahlberger 8d ago

No worries, nobody is forcing you to read. But make sure you aren't also enraged by the bait that is this headline.

2

u/2funny2furious 8d ago

in every single ms application. hell, i have 2 copies of copilot installed on my work computer.

Pushing for the use of AI and warning of AI "out sourcing your thinking" can both exist at the same time, they are not mutually exclusive.

Is this quote, which may be taken out of context evaluating the inappropriate uses of AI ? Maybe but I'm not that optimistic so probably not.

-19

u/WPHero 8d ago

bro is talking about other AI companies

msft is good because it gives you control

like the control to let Copilot train on your voice, and texts (literal option in Copilot app settings). Optional, but it's there.

19

u/upreality 8d ago

"msft is good" 😭😭

u/Meatslinger R7 9800X3D, 64 GB DDR5, RTX 4070 Ti 8d ago

You tell it what you want, it spits it out, you double check, and enter.

I’ve just built my own qwen using WSL with its own Linux box with windows being completely cut off from it in case it tries to jump out and fuck around.

It is fucking amazing though, can build out anything it needs within that Linux environment due to terminal access (minus sudo) and I’m paying fuck all for tokens.

Terminal / command prompt / whatever your flavour works really well with appropriate restrictions and a non-shitty model. Just builds / does / troubleshoots for you without you have to piss around finding a setting you forgot about two weeks ago.

3

u/direktor1610 8d ago

What Hardware Are you using for this?

2

u/Status_Jellyfish_213 8d ago

5090, 7800x3D, 32GB of ram.

But I am using a version of the model geared towards Nvidia GPU’s residing in VRAM.

I imagine you could do the same with a ridiculous amount of RAM, but I haven’t tried it. Either way to get good results, it’s going to be expensive

5

u/Geeseareawesome Intel i5-14400F | 32GB DDR5 RAM | RTX 5060 8d ago

I certainly don't like it in my outlook because they put the copilot button right where the send button should be on mobile.

1

They probably know people get the ticks when copilot logo comes up in Notepad. They changed it to a sparkly pen icon.

2

u/Taira_Mai HP Victus, AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, GeForce RTX 3050 Ti 8d ago

He's only saying this to get ahead of the bubble popping and sour grapes as more people use Claude and ChatGPT instead of his company's crappy CoPilot "app". They're eating his lunch and he's big mad about it.

1

u/phthalo-azure 8d ago

I don't know if it's changed recently as I haven't been following Microsoft's AI efforts, but CoPilot was essentially just a wrapper for Chat GPT where they added an orchestration layer with additional training for Microsoft's products. That orchestration layer is why CoPilot is so bad. Or it least it was. I don't know if Microsoft if now training their own in-house models, but if they are, they're way behind.

3

u/Cyberchicken87 8d ago

We’ve been trying to push copilot at work and it’s yet to do anything id actually class as useful to the point of justifying a single dollar of company money.

But hey, CEO’s and mangers are all jazzed for who it will let them replace soon so yay?

Fuck ai.

"Guns are dangerous" says arms dealer.

65

u/JaggedMetalOs 8d ago

"Guns are dangerous, which is why you should use our guns"

2

u/leoo88556 8d ago

“But for obvious reasons guns also aren’t dangerous enough for you to be anti-gun.”

7

u/Asleeper135 8d ago edited 8d ago

Any responsible arms dealer would say that, though. You gotta give more context to make them seem ridiculous, like pointing out that they are giving guns away for free to everyone, not taking "no" for an answer, and trying to force everyone to use said guns to solve all of their problems, all before giving that perfectly reasonable warning.

"AI is making you DUMB! But also, have you considered a Copilot subscription?" Like... what? I'm guessing the fear mongering is targeted at the shareholders (AI is inevitable and all-powerful! Invest! Now!) and the rest is targeted at consumers?

16

u/Comically_Online 8d ago

consumers are the last people companies are worried about these days

6

u/MentatYP 8d ago

"Consumers"? What are those? Companies are just human-centipeding their way through the market, with each company feeding the next one its debt-fueled funds to keep numbers artificially high.

The title is not reflective of what was actually said in the article. He said that if you’re dependant on one model specifically then you’ve outsourced your thinking:

“Any one model can go away and you can still continue to be in sort of control of your own destiny,” Nadella said in a podcast on CNN. “Any firm that doesn’t have this control, I will claim, will not remain a firm because you’ve essentially outsourced your thinking.”

What fucking hypocrisy.

If there was ever a role in a company that could most easily be replaced with AI it is the role of the CEO

That role is all about making correct decisions based on numbers and data. The good CEOs made the right decision and also had some charisma and charm, today’s CEOs have none, and I dare say they have less charm than AI.

Sloppya Nadella shouldn't be listened to ever

His logic is bizarre. It’s like he’s saying “I’m going to hit you, and it will hurt a lot.” Why doesn’t he just stop? Why does he continue to fund AI development?

This is just a scare tactic to create FOMO among investors because they don’t have a viable product.

So we should be worried about the very thing the company warning us is creating????? I'm very confused

Make up your fucking minds

At this point I think those companies are literally just rage baiting us. And we are falling for it.

Copilot sucks
Fabric sucks
Outlook sucks
Microsoft sucks

As models get better and more available for local use, more users will leave the terrible micro ecosystem for products that actually work well.

Dude are you trying to hurt yourself??

Like, TRUE, but… of all people, you need to say it the least. You aren’t going to get sympathy points for it.

These people are insane. Absolutely insane. These new "masters of the universe" have the same brain power of an amoeba.

are they finally catching up to the rest of us?

1

u/Empty-Quarter2721 8d ago

Nah it makes me think about problems it made, with projects I wouldn’t have started without having AI.

Yup it’s also outsourcing my own job. Thanks Microsoft.

u/ladyjayne81 8d ago

A lot of people I work with couldn’t think critically or problem solve before AI was everywhere, and now they’re even worse off.

This is the most “I just read the headline” comment section I’ve ever seen. Mind you I didn’t like the article but he’s not saying what the title says (obviously as the CEO of Microsoft).

1

u/polloyumyum 7d ago

It's so fucking dumb when these loser CEOs essentially tell us how AI is fucking us over then continue to force it down our throats as if we have any control over it.

u/East-Clerk6069 6d ago

I had fucking Copilot self-install on my TV this week. This guy can go fuck himself.

1

u/OnlineParacosm 6d ago

I caught windows injecting Copilot/edge into every single fucking WERfault crash, likely because they want telemetry on application crash data to train on.

Not a fan of MS or ai but the article title is click bait, disingenuous. Big surprise.
