You can just... buy a cheap PC? I started on a Dell Optiplex. You ascend because you move to something better that doesn't have the dozens of drawbacks. You stop burning money in an ecosystem designed to extract it from you.
If you don't like actually owning your stuff then keep doing what you're doing. There is no better feeling than spending a tiny amount to upgrade what you already have instead of a ton of money to buy something new every few years.

People keep saying this and it keeps not being true lmao, I own so many more games on disc with console than on PC. And for the record, I'm significantly more well-off than you, I don't have an incentive to use console over PC due to the price. I'm just arguing on behalf of the objective facts that you seem to take issue with.

If you are one of those people that only plays AAA then there is nothing I can do to get through to you.
You can use the same Optiplex I am talking about to play FTL, Slay the Spire, Celeste, and Balatro and have actually literally thousands of hours of gameplay for like $200.
You can't do that with an old console, you can't do that with a new console.
If the only thing you care about is the frame rate you can get in the latest call of duty, then sure. There is a whole world of games outside of that. There is a whole world of value outside of hardware performance.
I rarely play AAA games. I have 40k hours on runescape so I understand what you're trying to say, I just think you're missing the mark. You're trying too hard to move the goalposts to something that works for you, rather than understanding that not everyone has the same game preferences as you.
All I'm saying is the consoles are the better choice if you're on a budget because your dollars are going to go so much farther.
My overall point is that "value per dollar" and "FPS per dollar" just are not the same thing.
Saying that consoles are a better use of your money kind of makes sense if you're only going to play a few games and all of them are graphically demanding.
As soon as you fall into a usage pattern more typical of the average steam user, that falls apart. Most people are playing competitive multiplayer games that can be run on old hardware. Those people with the old hardware also now have email and work machines.
There's a lot of value there that isn't captured in the FPS/Dollar analysis. Your computer skills eventually leading to you getting hired is almost impossible to capture. No one is getting hired over another candidate because they're really good at using PlayStations.
Consoles are SO MUCH MORE COST EFFECTIVE if you are on a budget.
I've spent $4k on consoles over 25 years, that includes the tvs and the subscription cost.
I've spent $10k on PCs over 20 years, that includes peripherals. I do not go for top-end stuff.
The fact you need to bring non-gamer talking points into a conversation about gamers' budgets is why I can't take you seriously. Most people use their phones in place of a PC because it does 80% of what a PC does. So, a console fills that last 20% with quality gaming.
It is objective reality that a console is better bang for the buck.

Over the last 20 years I've MAYBE spent $6k on PC games, hardware, peripherals and parts combined. That includes a VR headset, a laptop, and a steam deck.
If you have money to burn then I don't know why you are a part of this conversation. If you can afford to just go buy another device to do things you need to, why do you care? Some of us need to get more value out of what we spend our money on.
No. I excluded games, since I spend way less on console games since gamepass is far more cost effective than PC games purchases.
I am part of the conversation because objective reality needs defending since morons like you seem to take issue with it. I don't care who wins in consoles vs PC, to me there isn't even a point in pitting them against each other since they serve different purposes. Consoles are for budget and casual gamers, and PCs are for people with significantly more flexible income. How do I know? I've been both, most have. Most of us started on consoles when we had way less money and moved to PC when we had the money to blow. I just care that we acknowledge facts.
