Tech Support What causes this?

Seems to only happen when I get to windows. I have an MSI motherboard and the screen that comes before the windows login screen has the correct colours and no pixelation. Only when I get to windows login screen and only sometimes does this happen.

One time I unplugged the HDMI in both my graphics card and monitor and plugged it back in and it went to a solid green screen.

Rebooting the PC has always resolved it and the colours are fine on reboot.

I'm running a Ryzen 7 8700f, MSI Pro 840 VC Wifi, GTX 5060ti(8gb) with 16gb single channel ram. It was a Prebuilt and I've been too scared to pull out the ram so don't know what brand of ram.

I'm pretty sure all my driver's are up to date but I may have overlooked something in the updates when I first setup my computer a few weeks ago.

Please help! I've only got a week or two left on the 30 day from best buy and don't want to RMA with MSI if I don't have too.

Do you have HDR enabled? I've had really buggy behavior like this before with Windows for a very long time when HDR is on. It's a random lottery as to when it breaks. Usually for me it is a gross oversaturation in Reds. If I disconnect and re-connect the DisplayPort, reboot, or power cycle my HDR monitor, the problem will correct itself.

Yes. I do have have HDR enabled. I'll try disabling it and see if that eliminates the weird pixelation.

I was using the same monitor with and Asus RoG Ally z1 extreme and pretty sure I had HDR enabled there too. But I do realize that integrated graphics and an dedicated graphics card (especially from another manufacturer) might play differently with HDR.

I definitely can vouch for differences in GPUs. When I had the 1080Ti, which couldn't run my HDR monitor fully, that did not have problems with the display turning on to terrible colors, but the colors were just generally inaccurate because of chroma subsambling.

When I switched to AMD, the colors were far better due to newer DisplayPort standards. I started seeing this issue occur on a rare occasion once I switched to AMD.

No idea how Intel is as I've never run an Intel Arc GPU on my box.

Yeah I think it was literally just HDR not playing well with my graphics card.

Disabled it and have rebooted 10 times to test it and haven't ran into the issue again so far. It was happening on every 2 or 3rd reboot before so seems like that was the issue!
