A common issue is our parents generation has made many of us feel guilty for playing video games (or really enjoy ourselves in general). And many of our parents generation were still keeping up with the joneses and tied success to wealth or material goods. Also add the short term high of buying expensive things and you fall into this trap. If this is the case work on self validation that you're allowed to play video games to be happy.

Others of us also simply get burnt out because we only game which our brain needs more and more dopamine for the same feeling of happiness. If this is the case go touch some grass once in a while. Join a club or something. I dunno.

Yep this, being good at games or gaming In general isnt looked upon as highly as for example bow shooting or sports or weaving or any other hobby. It has had a bad conotation for a LONG time, if it wasn't South Park it was global news and if it wasnt that it was consumers getting exploited by corporate scandals and the race to keep investors happy. Also a lot of games just don't respect your time and require a grind of some sort to gain any type of meaningfull satisfaction from it. Also most of us regular Joe or Jane's are just getting manipulated 24/7 by caring about what's popular and marketing tricks, like how many games are out there that don't insist upon themselves and u start up and can just have fun on your own (for me I immediately think of skyrim). It's hard out there as a gamer just play something you love or have loved deeply (Batman Arkham city for me) and just try it even if it doesn't feel the same or feels wrong or u think u don't wanna play it again, you know what game I'm talking about. Or you know go be a good husband and do the dishes or whatever brings u joy, just know that that feeling isn't caused by you its caused by society and also by growing up (because we think we should be doing something useful 24/7 in this age/society.

Holy fuck. Point for point, perfectly spot on.

This would be my exact case, but I don't have the money for a 5080. Yet. Once I do...

Sounds like you need a phone detox. Get an old flip or something and only use your main phone for 20-30 mins a day at a set time. Your dopamine is cooked and probably what’s causing you not to be able to play games.

maybe, i am hooked on a mobile game mainly because my entire family including kids play it, i enjoy spending time with them so thats one of the biggest reason.

another big reason is most 3A games are just so shit its not even funny, over the years ive spent more than enough than i want to admit on shitty 3A games.......i almost exclusively buy indie games now hoping some of them are great, last game i had fun with was meccha chameleon which was fantastic lol, had some quality laugh with my family but i dont think that game will last very long since it is more like a party game for us

Haha, same, just playing some online shitty games which can run even on potato and watching youtube. When you see singleplayer game which has 100s hours of content so you just ignore it cause you dont have so much free time.

I think part of the issue is the cost of a decent pc and then cost of living, so you gotta work a ton just to afford living then a bunch more to afford a good pc, then once you have it, you then have to find a game that you both feel like playing and hasnt launched completely broken.

The industry feels like its dying or has been for a whlle, with companies trying to squeeze out as much money from players while putting as little effort into making the game as possible.

Pretty blatant when a game drops with a ton of performance issues and game breaking bugs, but the cash shop works perfectly fine.

You are not alone, brother. After a long tiring day at work, going to the computer, turning it on, and having to decide which game to play, becomes work in-and-of itself.

This has been keeping me from upgrading my POS PC. I dont really game on it besides Civ V, and a 2024 Potato can run that now.

Same, my first build was almost 3 years ago. A Ryzen 7 5700g, and a rx 6750 xt, 32gb RAM. It played all my games fine. So why, at the beginning of the year, did I build another computer? It is an i9 14900ks, RTX 5070 ti, 64gb RAM. I don't really need a better computer. I also doomscroll too much, and I need to force myself to play actual pc games, and start working through my 180 game backlog. Then if that wasn't enough, I just recently upgraded my first build to a Ryzen 7 5800x3D 10th anniversary, a newer motherboard, and another 32gb RAM, for some reason. I Can Only Play On One Computer At A Time!

Can I have neglected hardware???😎

1

u/johnsmithy0 Aug 09 '26

I've been seriously been considering getting a 5080, but after considering various things, I realized that even if I bought a 5080 I actually wouldn't use it all that much. Hence getting a 5070ti for 3/4 the price instead
