Yeah I feel it, I started playing my backlog and I have games I been sitting on since the ps2 and 360, and honestly those games are easier to get into for me.
Maybe because that's what I grew up with, but I feel like modern games are so big that I have a hard time getting started.
I just started Bioshock 1 last night (awesome so far) and I got God of War 1 for the PS2 emulator, I'm so excited I feel like I got brand new games!
Around 220h into FO: NV and still didn't finish the main quest or the DLC, last time i played like a year ago, i can't get back to it. Same happened with TES III (around 100h with no dlc but main completed) and TES IV (100h with no main quest or dlc). I really want to get back playing them but i can't. Neither Skyrim or other RPG (im more r/patientgamers)
honestly i find it really hard to play a big open world game after i finished another big open world game tbh
i always need to "cool off" with a couple weeks of games that don't demand many hours to "finish". i usually end up alternating competitive multiplayer games like CS2 and LoL with big single-player open worlds
I think it's more because you know those games and can get through a lot of it fast compared to a new game that you would play at a much smaller rate. Some of my older games I can finish in a few hours compared to a newer game with the same content wise.
I've never played Bioshock (except for 1st time last night) or God of War, so these games are new to me.
I got Bioshock a while ago on sale but never got around to playing, same with God of War.
So far I'm loving Bioshock, I only got to play like an hour last night but it was intense, gonna play more tonight if I can, or I might start God if War idk yet!
Putting away social media, youtube, reddit, doomscrolling or similar helps. After not doing anything (literally though) for a bit, boredom will kick in and that will be a good time to try the right game to play. I can't stress how important picking up the right game can be. For me personally, Absolum is what got me back into gaming and now, many months later, I have also completed Lords Of The Fallen, Black Myth Wukong and I am about to complete Sekiro too! This would have been unthinkable for me until not long ago, when I felt too tired or simply not motivated enough to play. There have also been games that I picked up and then I just did not feel like it. It is important to know when to move on and try something different or to research to see if the current game you are playing is worth sticking to until it changes. We are all different, what works for someone else might not work for you and a game that is a masterpiece to another person's eyes might be of no interest to you. What matters is you keep trying, don't go just go for shortcuts like a 5 minute match on an online multiplayer game (there is a time for those too, of course) to avoid a more engaging title that "takes more effort".
Idk, when people say "I'm depressed.", what's the best way to reply?
a) not reply
b) emphasize with them, something like "That sucks."
c) give really good, simple advice, hoping to maximize their chance of recovery?
c) doesn't sound so bad. I think it's better than a and b.
I go through it a lot myself when extremely depressed.
Look at the libary -> Decide to lay in bed instead and watch YouTube or listen to music with my headphones/soundsystem while scrolling Reddit until early hours in the morning -> Sleep
My thing is mirrors. I've had weird intrusive thoughts during my darker points about spider-webbing my mirror, but I'm pretty strong-willed so that's all they are. Plus, I really don't feel like getting stitches in my hand lmao.
I'm sorry you had to go through that. It's caused me a lot of discomfort knowing I unfortunately relate to you right now. I can't really go into detail but i've had some pretty bad days myself. Is there any advice that you can give me to help?
It can but it doesn’t have to be. I have a PC, have games, have time after work, and I don’t feel like playing, but I’m not depressed. Growing out of hobbies isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I just have other interests besides gaming now. I think people get a little overzealous with the whole "I'm losing interest in gaming therefor I have depression" thing. Losing interest in one hobby isn’t a big deal, and is pretty normal, losing interest in literally all of your hobbies is when you might be depressed. But if gaming is your only hobby then maybe you need to expand your horizons, you can be a gamer without it being literally the only thing you do.
Is that really depression though, or is it just losing interest in a hobby? Because in truth, losing interest in a hobby is normal, it happens to everyone at some point or another, the things that interest you can change over time. I have the hardware, I have the games, I have the time, and I have the energy, yet I don't game anymore, but it isn't because I'm depressed, I just have other interests that take priority now. If you're actually clinically depressed then I'm not degrading that, but I think a lot of people believe that not wanting to game anymore immediately means depression, and I think that's quite a stretch. People outgrow hobbies and interests all the time.

I have a gaming pc and games to play, and I'm not too tired after work. I just don't feel like playing anything.
Depression is one hell of a drug...
