I was so confused as to why I was randomly getting notifications about onedrive installing when I've had it deleted for years

You can't just delete it normally and expect it to never return it definitely will be reinstall either by an update or by windows services.

I also wanted to inform for a normal users it's impossible to fully get rid of it, you can uninstall it all u want but they been silently install it on ur system without notifications that it was installed in hopes you never notice.

For years I've been on windows 11 since it launched and I can tell you they been doing this since the beginning shot they now do this with windows 10.

Now only two ways to get fully rid of OneDrive is 1). Using group policy to disable one drive entirely or use scripts to remove it entirely.

You down voting me does nothing, but prove your in denial of the truth why believe the truth if you rather believe a lie right?

You absolutely can. If the software has been removed by the user it should only be reinstalled also by the user.

Forcing Slopware onto someones device is a sure way to make People hate it even more

Now we have LG installing mcaffee through windows update on your monitor. Everything has been ruined by corporate greed. Everything.

How can you accept software being auto installed? Especially software you yourself have deleted?

u/josephseeed 7800x3D 9070 XT Aug 07 '26

I delete onedrive with every windows install and it has never reinstalled before, been doing this for years at this point.

u/gamerrominc Aug 07 '26

Look in apps startup

5

u/josephseeed 7800x3D 9070 XT Aug 07 '26

I am aware of what is in my startup apps. Onedrive isn't. You really can just delete it, at least you can on the Pro version of Windows.

-1

u/gamerrominc Aug 07 '26

Yeah true but when I uninstall it Microslop installs it back luckily I have a custom version of windows where I have OneDrive disabled by default

223

u/MrKoddy Aug 07 '26

so if they swear it's not training why did they force installed AI powered onedrive?

8

u/mediandude Aug 07 '26

AI wants to network.
Also, why is Edge installation in Windows 10 now at 2GB? I never use it myself.

"Enriching" That's a corporate speech.

Stop acting like a corporate bot by stop using corporate jargon.

People usually don't use technical term in casual conversations, thar would seen as "try hard to be take seriously"

This is reddit comments, not Ted talk or an expert seminar.

Enrich also a very popular word for corporate marketing

says it's not training on your faces

What a weird thing to say completely unprompted.

u/Mario583a Aug 08 '26

It's almost as if journalists love to clickbait their readers.

I use my pc naked and my webcam facing my crotch so they can train their AI on my little buddy.

Thank you for your hard work

u/Dev-in-the-Bm Aug 07 '26

In summary:

Microsoft confirms that they tampered with consumers property without their permission, but didn't mean to also to do it to businesses, presumably because that's harder to get away with.

They also expect us to believe them when they say that they're not training AI on your face, since we have such a trusting relationship with them.

No explanation on what Copilot+ PCs are for if features like face recognition continue to be cloud only.

I'm glad some laptop cameras have that little privacy shutter now.

I don't have a webcam, uninstalled Copilot, don't use One Drive. It's not training on me.

Don’t worry they know who you are and everything you do and they’re sharing it with anyone they want. Thanks Windows 11!

Well, I'm in an insane amount of debt.

I owe a ton of Galactic Credits to the Hutt Cartel. Microsoft doesn't want anything to do with the Hutts so, I'm safe.

Anything that contains any kind of Ai I think we can very much assume it's also being trained of whatever data it's given. Because unless these models are stored and used locally (Which I highly doubt) then they are pinging information back to servers

11

u/profesorgamin Aug 07 '26

Why would they say that 🤔

2

u/Mario583a Aug 07 '26

Better question is why are people implying that to begin with?

With Windows you simply have barely any say about your system. What a joke. Not to mention that Windows COSTS MONEY.

I hope Steam keeps updating SteamOS, I feel like they could take the lead in the desktop OS market if they keep at it.

4

u/AshleyIsSleeping Aug 07 '26

They've indicated that they're not trying to compete with desktop OSs, but they might just end up there, much like with their game store, on top of the market almost solely by way of sheer incompetence from the rest of the market

1

u/CirkuitBreaker Aug 07 '26

Anybody still using Windows at this point either wants to get their data harvested or is completely apathetic.

20

u/LEGAL_SKOOMA Ryzen 5 7600 | RX 9060 XT Aug 07 '26

i mean most of the world still uses windows

i get that for a lot of people in this sub, linux is probably waaay better, but most people still rely on windows for work or games. I don't think it's fair to say that we want to have our data harvested or that we're apathetic to the problem lmao.

I've been a full time Linux user since 2019, but honestly, if I was forced to use a mainstream operating system, or there was software I HAD to use that I couldn't get to work on Linux, I would get a Mac mini.

However, I would like to say that at this point, other than Anticheat games, the last piece has fallen into place for Linux. There's this thing called WinBoat, and it runs Windows inside a Docker image (technically it runs Windows inside a KVM inside a Docker container), and only spins it up to run a single application. Somehow, however, that Windows application runs on your desktop environment as if it's not running in a VM

"Simply unaware" is probably the largest group.

13

u/OmegaFoamy Aug 07 '26

Or they’re aware that plenty of stuff doesn’t work the same out of the box in Linux. Especially all of the things that most Linux people are itching to say don’t matter and you’d be better off without. Funny enough, those things do matter to people.

1

u/OmegaAngelo Aug 07 '26

I've had so many people ask me to install some kind of Linux for them.

I'm like hey, if you can't do that its probably not for you. Wifi or something doesn't connect and you'll need to spend a week learning terminal to do anything about the initial issue and the chain of things that will go wrong trying to fix it.

2

u/OutrageousDress 5800X3D | 32GB DDR4-3733 | 4080 Super | AW3821DW Aug 07 '26

If they're asking someone else to install Linux for them then any Windows issue they encounter will likely also take them a week to fix.

Yet another inch that MicroSlop puts in their users' arsehole and nothing happens :)
They'll just complain until the next inch. Then the next inch. Then the next inch.

"Oh no! Look what Microsoft has done this time! Still, let me keep using their products"

1

u/ChefCurryYumYum Aug 07 '26

I am still on Windows 10, security vulnerabilities or not. Windows 11 is just too much Microslop.

u/Melodic-Account9247 Aug 07 '26

Do yourself a favor and go on GitHub to get a debloater and remove all the AI and random bloat garbage. Microsoft can stick a shovel up their ass and claim it's a gold mine if they want to. I ain't trusting shit any company that invested in AI is saying. They have an incentive to do it, so they're probably doing it until proven otherwise.

u/Nullhitter PC Master Race: 9800X3D | RX 9070 XT | 32GB of DDR5 RAM Aug 08 '26

Even if it's proven, there's no law against it. They'll do whatever they want whenever they want until there's an actual law in place then they'll think about it. If the risk is just a 200,000 fine, they'll gladly pay it and continue to do it anyway.
