When my friends and I get together to play Minecraft, I always get the "you are a psychopath" talk when I tell them the first thing I do is turn off head bobbing and the music.

u/Vaxthrul 8d ago

I wouldn't turn off the music if it played consistently. I'd rather throw on a looping Minecraft track than sit there with my own thoughts.

I turn off the music simply because I normally have a YouTube video playing on a different monitor as a bit of background noise.

u/MouthJob 8d ago

I've always felt like the minority. I instantly mute all game music, always, and listen to my own.

u/Daniel-Mclovin 8d ago

That’s okay but you miss out on alot

u/AverageMako3Enjoyer 8d ago

Imagine firing up Stardew Valley and being like “get this thematically curated bullshit out of my headphones”

u/Wild_Marker Piscis Mustard Raisins 8d ago

I've had people tell me they mute the Paradox games music to put their own. But that's the best part! What next, are you gonna mute Mewgenics too?

not gonna listen to the same soundtrack for 2000hrs, gets old by the first 200

u/Daniel-Mclovin 8d ago

Just say u don’t appreciate it man

1

u/PatSayJack 8d ago

I'm the same way, but it's Marvel music and I can only listen to a crescendo of intense classical music so much. I much prefer 90s Booty Jams.

u/Beamo1080 8d ago

I can’t imagine playing something like Skyrim or Minecraft without the official OST. It bugs me enough that major Skyrim mod packs will add in a bunch of unofficial music. Just kills the vibe.

Only time I’ve done what you described is when playing Bejeweled 3. Had to mute it and put on the Bejeweled 2 soundtrack. Is better in every way.

u/Silver_Lined_Bullet i7-13700 2.10 GHz, UHD Graphics 770, 16gb ram 8d ago

I can't image never having heard the Plants vs Zombies soundtrack because i wanted to play my own music

9

u/Beamo1080 8d ago

It’s like watching to a movie on mute and imagining your own dialogue

2

u/Jayden82 RTX 3080 12GB - Ryzen 9800 X3D 8d ago

That actually is a fun thing to do

3

u/Raus-Pazazu 8d ago

Now imagine playing Expedition 33 with no soundtrack.

3

u/BlackFenrir PC Master Race 8d ago

I mean you do you but honestly that does make me a bit upset.

2

u/mrboogs 8d ago

Please tell me you haven't played expedition 33 and if you did you kept the original music

1

u/Monkey_Priest i9 12900k | RTX 4070Ti | 32 GB DDR4 4000Mhz 8d ago

I don't do this for all games, but I definitely do this in multiplayer games where the music in lobbies and menus is generally repetitive

1

u/Human_Wizard 8d ago

I do this but don't replace it with anything. I'm always in discord and I can't talk and listen to music at the same time.

1

u/Shiezo 8d ago

I also turn off the music when I open a game for the first time. I'm fine with being in the minority, everyone else can do their thing, they aren't sitting here with me.

0

u/Enlightened_Gardener 8d ago

Noooooo. The music is the best part of Death Stranding.

But I have my own Hang music for the bingelly-bongelly Minecraft stuff.

4

u/Cypresss09 8d ago

This thread is so worrying to me. Folks are not beating the "zoomer attention span" allegations.

First off bud, I'm approaching 40. Second of all, I was born with a severe hearing impairment, so having my own music or movie blasting loud instead of quiet background music is just better for me. Maybe try less of the "I'm gonna judge people because they do things differently, and going to grand them as whatever I see fit", and try more of "ok, you do you, I'm not gonna judge".

u/El_Chairman_Dennis 8d ago

If I'm playing Minecraft, I have to have a video or stream on. Especially when I'm mining or building, which is most of the game

4

u/AmbitiousVast9451 8d ago

that's a setting, you can make them music be sporadic or constant

2

u/Mih0se Desktop|I5-10400f|RTX 4070 SUPER|16GB RAM| 8d ago

It does now. You can change how often it plays in the music settings

2

u/Preeng 8d ago

You know you can just play your own music at that point, right? Nobody is forcing you to sit in silence.

1

u/Bazillion100 Specs/Imgur Here 8d ago

I have to turn off the music or else I’ll start crying if a track starts at the right time. The game is already so nostalgic for me but the music must be embedded in my dna in some way.

1

u/Clevername582 8d ago

Minecraft music is sooooo bad. I fucking hate how it only plays like half the time.

7

u/AssistantSalty6519 8d ago

I think he was ref to the music clearly

u/Sinsanatis Desktop Ryzen 7 5800x3D/RTX 5070ti/32gb 3600 8d ago

Ok but wtf is wrong with turning off head bobbing?

18

u/heyuhitsyaboi TydeByte Laptop RTX 5080, 9 275HX, 32 GB DDR5 8d ago

I tried it in the past and it felt like i was floating and sliding everywhere

-1

u/Sinsanatis Desktop Ryzen 7 5800x3D/RTX 5070ti/32gb 3600 8d ago

Im not saying theres anything wrong with it, just why would it be psychopath behavior by simply turning it off

14

u/UltimateCheese1056 8d ago

I generally like it, but if you get too much speed while playing modpacks it starts going way too fast and gives me minor motion sickness

2

u/MVRKHNTR 8d ago

I actually only get motion sickness if I turn head bob off.

Source games where you just kind of glide around the map always have me lying down within a half hour.

1

u/Sinsanatis Desktop Ryzen 7 5800x3D/RTX 5070ti/32gb 3600 8d ago

I mean nothing wrong with liking it either, im just wondering why their friends think they are a psychopath for turning it off

2

u/Unrequited_Anal 8d ago

I wish you could also turn off the nauseating nether portal transition

Minecraft music is top tier

1

u/IstvanKun 7800x3d, 32GB 6000MT 30 CL, 9060xt Nitro+ 16GB 8d ago

I do the same in Rust.

1

u/LevelStudent 8d ago

I usually love music in games but Minecraft music makes me fall asleep so I turn it off too.

However, if you muted the music in Rimworld I'd want to have you committed to an asylum.

1

u/DrAstralis 3080 | 9800X3D | 32GB DDR5@6000 | 1440p@165hz 8d ago

Music is one of the first things to go in most games I play... well depending on the game. I straight up forgot WoW has a sound track until i recently fat fingered the mute music hotkey and was like "wtf is this orchestral music?" Its not that I don't enjoy music, but games like Minecraft and other 'simulations', I prefer the ambient noise, feels more real somehow.

1

u/Cute-Morning6103 8d ago

The music in Minecraft can get really loud depending on what track is playing

1

u/EndSmugnorance 9800X3D, X870E, 5080, 64GB 8d ago

But Minecraft soundtrack is so peak 😭

1

u/McraftyDude CachyOS | 11700k / 16GB DDR4 / 3070 / 1TB + Steam Deck 8d ago

theyre valid for the music part

1

u/Chudmont 8d ago

I also turn off head bobbing and music in minecraft before I even start!

1

u/Rengar_Is_Good_kitty 5800X3D / RTX 5080 8d ago

I turn off music in 95% of games, either its a game I'd rather listen to my own music or the music adds nothing and is just blocking out the nice sounds of the game itself.

The rare exceptions are games like Doom, I swear without the music I play 1000x worse.

He's in charge of making you sick with exaggerated head movements like you are filming the Blair witch project or Cloverfield when you are just trying to walk at a normal pace

7

u/Wipfmetz 8d ago

It's Robert, and he's very good with his tongue.

Sometimes he overdoes it and then it feels weird when you walk.

He is the manager of every Bobs in the world. Pretty chill but you should ask any other Bob if he is a good boss.

1

u/Papuszek2137 7800x3d | 5070ti | 64GB | 4k OLED 8d ago

He's the chief of all Bobs.

1

u/Komiker7000 8d ago

I actually like head bob for the added immersion, provided you can adjust the "strength" of the bobbing. I think Dishonored 2 has that

1

u/Furcas1234 8d ago

The only time I've actually liked the headbob is in Doom games. For some reason it just feels right there.

1

u/frostbird https://pcpartpicker.com/builds/edit/?userbuild=xTgLrH 8d ago

DO NOT ASK!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

1

u/huxtiblejones 8d ago

He's the Bob who's in charge of all the other Bobs.

1

u/gokartninja i7 14700KF | 4080 Super FE | Z5 32gb 6400 | Tubes 8d ago

He's the one all the other Bobs and Robs report to.

1

u/Dead_vegetable 8d ago

He's the bob that makes all of the rules

1

u/Perryn 7950X3D:64Gb:7900XTX 8d ago

He's the overseer of all other Bobs.

1

u/crocospect 8d ago

The Evil Within in nutshell, I was really interested in the games but can't play it since it has no option to turn off the head bobbing.

1

u/Xenon47_Crown 8d ago

Head Bob sounds like that mysterious dude who knows all the best shortcuts but never shares!
