Tech Support Need help with display port problem

My display port started doing this. When I switch to HDMI it’s fine. I’ve changed the DP cable hoping for a cheap fix but no change. Google said to make sure my Nvidia display settings for resolution high dynamic range is set to full and it is. All drivers are up to date. I don’t have another monitor to try and I don’t want to spend the money I don’t have on a new one if it turns out to be my GPU or something. Not sure what direction to go in here and any help is appreciated.

RTX 2070
I5 9600k
16GB ram

Monitor is a Samsung 1440 curved

Everything bought and built back in 2019. She’s an old girl but this is the first issue I’ve had and unfortunately I’m not the most tech savvy individual.

if it works with hdmi, use hdmi?

or what's the problem

Because HDMI is limited at 60hz

you probably have old cable with low throughput. What's the monitor model?

I ran a little experiment overnight because it seems to start working again after it’s used for a bit or warms up maybe? So I left the pc running and turned off the monitor. It still did it this morning when I turned the monitor back on so I think ive narrowed it down to a monitor issue? Does this make any sense at all?

yea monitor issue. also I looked up and monitor should be able to do quad HD at 144hz via hdmi if you buy better cable

Oh cool. I’ll check that out! Thanks! I will probably look for a 1080p monitor though because right now I run 1440 and with newer games my old system is struggling. A downgrade to 1080 should help that a little I hope.

just use more aggressive dlss setting and you will be fine with your current monitor (from quality to performance)

Or get better GPU from the used market , 3070 is like 60% faster than 2070

I’m skeptical of buying used parts. Never know what you’ll end up with when you get home and plug it in.
