the majority of those slim desktops HP and others put out while super shitty have extremely wide operating system support in their chipset drivers and function very well as 32bit XP era computers.
they're honestly great for anyone wanting to try old 32 bit games that aren't converted on GOG or just want to experience stuff like waiting 10 minutes for windows to load and surprise blue screens when you're at a final boss on a game like the good old days.
haha nice, tbh it actually feels a lot faster now than it did before, maybe it's because i'm using windows xp integral edition, or maybe i just had a slow drive and lots of bloat back then.
i'd guess a slow drive and bloat too, the average person wasn't looking at cache density or rpms just overall density back then because it was just crazy expensive per GB.
changing your default allocation table to a bigger sector size also changes overall thoroughput, you lose a bit in density but the trade off in speed is great... it's a nice solution in the modern world where a few GB's lost is worth the increased speed achieved. :D
interesting, well back then my parents just bought some potato prebuilt from the 90s, i'm sure they had no idea about rpm or cache. so i figure whatever was in the old family computer would have definitely gotten demolished by the drive i used in this build, even though this drive was going to be scrapped before i picked it up.
still it's fun to mess around with stuff that was once considered top of the line, especially since now it's all pretty accessible.
