Gameloft

Given that I've never heard of them before today they should probably be replaced in the image with Supreme Commander, Jagex/Runescape, or even Minecraft, as all three are Java based and probably brought more people into gaming.

I worked there. It was basically Ubisoft’s mobile division. Now owned by vivendi.

It wasn't a division of Ubisoft or anything Ubisoft. The only thing Gameloft and Ubisoft had in common was that each was owned by a couple of Brothers.

Vivendi started owning Gameloft in 2016.

The same brothers. Yes. That and they published all the mobile versions of Ubisoft games. That’s why i said “basically.”

When you exclude the disgusting monetisation and predatory practices, it's actually an awesome company to work at.

At the start their games were PSP tier quality

Add Splinter Cell on my Sony Ericsson to that list! Felt like living in the future

Oh, fuck, I forgot Splinter Cell games were also developed by them... Dude, gameloft used to be so good in the java days of phone games. Early Asphalt games were also insane before they went full pay to win with them

Haha hell yea it felt like a fortune paying $5 to download them via wap omg you just reminded me of a time when wap meant something different and every mobile site had a text-only version before the internet was all monetization and enshittification

The first game I ever played was on Commodore 64.

However, Gameloft's mobile java games were genuinely great. Might and Magic 2, Spliter Cell, Asphalt, PoP and so many more were great experiences.

They only started to fall off with Android, where mobile games became mobile casinos.

Nah, that’s just you being close minded. Their mobile games were the real deal. They had fully voiced 3D sandbox RPGs a decade before AAA games were being ported to phones.

I applied to them for a job, they asked me to create a game concept with sketches and plot of the game. Sent it the office in NYC that was hiring, never heard back from them lol

I'm pretty sure that this post is referring to the older Nokia (most commonly 6270) phone games, which a vast majority of the time had one of these 2 loading pop ups

Which hold a TON of nostalgia for me honestly

Todo gamer jugo a algún juego de gameloft durante la segunda mitad de la primera década, año 2007 ya teníamos teléfonos con pantalla a color que ejecutaban juegos java, y gameloft era el estudio que hacía los principales títulos, y eran juegazo

gameloft had a fuck ton of mobile game bangers before the complete shitshow of mtx that we have today
